Detailed Reviews

Let’s start with the good. The hotel is very charming, nice decor and very clean. The staff is friendly and the breakfast nice. So the reality: this is really more of an upscale hostel than “hotel”. Check in went well, however there were many things that could be improved if disclosed at check-in: you have to ask for key to in room safe (which is tiny), you have to ask for the hot water to be turned on for your shower, there is a really lovely upper outdoor terrace which no one advised us of so we only figured it out the night before we left. Wi-Fi was not provided on check-in, we had to come back and ask. All these things are really not that big of a deal but it would’ve made a lot of trips back to the front desk unnecessary. The most aggravating part of our experience was the noise. You hear absolutely everything including the doorbell to the hotel, which ruminates throughout even late at night, and very early in the morning. We were woken up at 4:30 AM twice due to chattering. We asked for two extra pillows, and they were not able to provide that for us until our last night. There were no cups in the rooms. Also, the room we had was number nine on the second floor, which was adequate, however there are no windows just a stained glass window which light would be men making it difficult to sleep. We were given a remote control for the television, which even with a battery change and never ended up working. Lastly, the hotel is on one of the steepest hills in the area. It is a good location just be prepared for a steep climb to the hotel.

We spent 2 nights at the Muisca Hotel upon arriving in Colombia. The establishment is very beautiful, atypical with a succession of small corridors, stairs, patios or terraces. The rooms are perfectly clean and spacious. Disadvantage: our family room was on the ground floor and overlooked the patio, so a little dark. The location is excellent, at the gates of Candelaria, 10 minutes walk from Simon Bolivar Square, but be careful, we are at the top of the street so the return is a bit straining on the legs.
Finally a good quality/price ratio for the Candelaria.

It is a very beautiful place, it is actually magical and sweet, that each of the rooms has a name and decoration from a Pre-Columbian Muisca town, it is very beautiful. Me and my husband thought it was great. The terrace is beautiful with the view of Bogotá, the garden is beautiful too.
I would only improve the menu, with more artisanal foods, without any industrial products, that would make the place and the experience perfect.

We stayed for three nights at the end of February. We arrived very late due to our flight from Houston arriving late. The lady who let us in and welcomed us was very kind and helpful. She was really, really nice, and despite the fact that we don't speak much Spanish and her English was limited, we understood each other just perfectly. The breakfast was decent. The first morning we had it up on the top floor terrace, which had a nice view of the surrounding area. It's quite a narrow, winding staircase leading up there, though, so the next two mornings we decided to eat in the courtyard. The man who served us breakfast also manned the reception desk for most of the time we were there. He was cordial and spoke excellent English. The hotel is in a very hilly part of town, and while walking down to the center of La Candelaria is easy, keep in mind that you have to walk back up steep cobblestone streets at the end of your sightseeing day and if it's raining, they are slick. There is a small bar in the reception area that we probably would have used if our stay was longer. But by the time we got back from our long days of activities, we were too tired. The atmosphere in this little gem of a hotel was really charming and we knew when we booked it that it would not be a luxury or extremely comfortable hotel. That said, it was fine, and its good location made up for any minor inconveniences such as a hard bed and a chilly room (the heater didn't do a good job of warming up the space). Our room was up one flight of outdoor/courtyard stairs, which was fine for us. But keep in mind that many of their rooms are accessible only by stairs and if you have an issue with agility or mobility, it would be best to request a room on the ground floor well in advance of your stay. Bogota is cold in the mornings, and when it's raining, it is uncomfortably cold unless you are well dressed for it. I'm sure if we had asked for extra pillows and a blanket, our requests would have been met. There are plenty of restaurants in walking distance. We used Uber quite a bit as well, which apparently had just come back into service in Bogota the week prior to our arrival. The area in general is noisy, and it's not unusual to wake up to neighborhood sounds of music or loudspeaker announcements. If we go to La Candelaria district again, we would stay at the Hotel Muisca without hesitation. However, we will likely opt for another part of the city in the future so we can discover something new.

This hotel is situated in the colorful La Candelaria area, though located on a very steep street. The owner is friendly, the room was clean but you can hear anything what is going on outside. What I didn't think correct is that you have to fill in a form to order what you want to have for breakfast: you can have bread and eggs and cereals but I only ordered bread and I asked for milk with it as I have to drink that for medical reasons. At the end of the stay they charged me the milk. I paid, but found it quite strange. If I had ordered cereals, I would have had the milk for free. That leaves me with mixed feelings.

We (two retired couples from the US with quite a bit of experience traveling somewhat off the beaten track) stayed at the Hotel Muisca for four nights. The staff (Carlos) was very helpful in providing local advise and helped arrange an overnight trip to Villa de Llevya with Fernando Molina (Cootrans Dorado - jfernandomolina26@yahoo.es), who we definitely recommend (limited English but very careful driver). The hotel arranged pickup at the airport for a midnight arrival which was very welcome.
The hotel was clean, but noisy, cold and up a very steep hill. We (and other guests) repeatedly asked for heat but it never happened in on of our rooms. They offered a hot water bottle and we did get extra blankets but we were definitely uncomfortably cold. Breakfast is served early just outside our rooms and people were quite loud. Included breakfasts were pretty ordinary but satisfying.
Because of the cold, noise, and hill we would not stay at this hotel again.

Hotel well located in Candelaria (at the top of a very steep Calle) which offers aging rooms around a small patio. The decor is nice but the rooms are quite simple and not very well appointed. Ordinary furniture from another age, basic bathroom, low-end products. Minimalist breakfast with no change from one day to the next.
Welcome without particular warmth.
Not great value for money.

We have mixed feelings about our stay at muisca hotel. The location of the hotel is very good. The rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are well equipped. It was very noisy inside the hotel.
Although a warm welcome in other hotels in Colombia, we didn’t get the same service from hotel Muisca. The receptioniste, named Claudia, was not friendly, flexible nor hospitable at all. She didn’t take the time to answer our questions and seemed very annoyed every time we asked something. Also, we Booked a room with breakfast included, but the last day we had an early flight and asked for a simple breakfast on the go. She didn’t do any effort to die so, so we left without breakfast.
It’s a pitty, because the male recepcionist was very helpful and friendly.

Since we arrived, our driver told us it was a good hotel.
We stay in a quadruple with bunk bed: suitable size, but without pretensions in decoration or space.
The best:
- Located in a quiet neighborhood of the historic center
- Very close to many tourist spots
- Friendliness of the staff
- Rooftop breakfasts (highly recommended)
The worst:
- The way to get to the hotel is by the street "el calvario" which has a very steep slope. I would not recommend it for very old people or people with walking difficulties.
Last night I detected on my blanket and my pillow long women's hair... I don't know if there can be a big cleaning failure or I exchanged them with one of my friends when making the beds...

My family and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel in April (less than a week ago). We can’t recommend this hotel enough! The staff, the charming decor, the roof deck, everything about this hotel is perfect. It’s very unique and has suchw an authentic feel. We were treated SO well by the staff even though we came with a two year old child, who at times required patience. At one point he fell ill and they were very caring. My family & I highly recommend this hotel ! Thank you Juan Carlos and Team for everything - you made our stay so special.

Same thing is happening to me now, it's really annoying. They are charging for an "early check-in" despite the fact they are charging for the whole day.
We got there really early and there was no room available for us to do an early check in, but as soon as possible they put us in the bedroom, like 2 hours before the scheduled time - and didn't charge extra for that.
You can arrive at any time you want. Our front desk works 24/7. If you have more questions with your booking please let us know at our email (you can find it in our website) and we will response to you ASAP.
