It was our first time in Punta del Este and had no idea where to stay. Booked this hotel via booking.com. The location is in the so called Beverly Hills area and is gorgeous, very quiet. Only a few nice restaurants within 5-10 min walking - no shops. You do want to get your own transportation if you stay here. A bicycle or a car depending on your needs. Breakfast is great and runs until 1 and is fresh, lots of fruit, really nice! The garden with pool is a great place to relax. The rooms are very very basic, but I must say that the mattress is one of the best I slept on during my three week trip through South America. I would love to redecorate the place, it is so 70's now. More white and miami-style could make this a boutique 4 star resort in no-time. Owner and his family are just lovely, very helpful and laid-back.

It doesn't look as nice as the pictures. It's falling apart. The owner is rude. And you can find a bettter hotel at the same price. Don't book through websites for more then one night for any suspect hotel, because if you don't like the hotel the cancellation policy skrews you.

We stayed 3 nights, arriving by road from Chile via Argentina. At first my wife and her mother did not care for the place, but they left liking it and would stayb again. The Owner (Frank) is a real character, very personable and helpful, showed me how to operte his Uraguayan perillo grill. El Medano although about 80 yeras old has alot of character, a central location in Punta in an upscale neigborhood. Ground transport (car or bike) necessary.
