Detailed Reviews
The Hotel from the front as you enter or from the beach side looks lovely.
This Hotel is top end as far as hotels go, from the minute we arrived all the staff from reception to pool and maid service of the rooms they are all so friendly and take time to talk even though they are busy.
The Horizon bedrooms are stunning with a large bed, terrace overlooking the pool and beach area, large bathrooms with bath and separate shower.
The pool guys as you arrive set your sun bed up with the towels and leave a mini cool box with water. During the day they bring watermelon, clean your glasses and drinks and food as you request them all to your sunbed.
We have only ate in the buffet restaurant and each night there has been so much choice at all of the different food stations.
You have salads, sushi, fresh baked bread and kebabs, tegines with so many choices in them, fresh fish cooked to order. Huge dessert selection including fresh crepes and lots of ice creams.
Breakfast is the same with so much choice.
They do have other restaurants you can pay to eat in and they are a French, Vietnamese and Chinese but we haven't needed to eat there so cant comment.
Lovely relaxed hotel with family feel and very friendly, hope to return to this or another Shangri la hotel again soon.

We arrived too the hotel at around midnight and check-in went very easy, which was highly appreciated.
We stayed in a clubroom. It was very spacious with a hall/entrance, large bedroom with armchairs and exit to the balcony, a small office and a spacious walk in closet and bathroom with separate toilet, shower and bathtub. Very pleasant.
The lounge is on the top floor with a nice balcony. It is very nice to enjoy both breakfast and evening drinks here overviewing the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
There are two beaches and two pool-areas with lots of sunchairs. The beaches are nice, as well as the water. Nice and clear despite being ”in town”. Everyone gets a small cool bag with cold water. During the day complementary bits are served. We had watermelon.
There are several restaurants to choose among, both within the hotel. We would recommend “Bord Eau” (French) and Shang Palace (Chinese).
There is also a pool restaurant also open in the evenings and a buff e restaurant. At the latter, it is also possible to order a la carte. However, al a carte at the buffet restaurant will take some time before served. In my opinion, too long, which is a pity since there is so much nice to choose upon.
This issue should be addressed.
Next to the hotel is a Souk. You can reach either by walking or taking a canal boat.
In the Souk there are ATM, shops, restaurants and cafés.
The staff at the hotel are service minded and polite.

After long 10 months, we finally made up our mind to go on a staycation! We surely were a little worried on how it would be to go on a staycation during these pandemic times! However, as we entered the lobby and right from check-in to check-out, we felt the property has taken a lot of measures for the safety of the guests!! Even the rooms had a safety seal which is broken open when we enter the room assuring us that the room has been sanitized before our arrival.
Stay: The property is amazing, so gorgeous, extremely spacious and palatial room and the breathtaking view from the room made us realize this is the best decision we made!
Our Room:421
Beach: Beautiful clean beach is a blessing when the weather is so beautiful! 2 beautiful movies were played too as part of movie night, and watching movie under the stars and on a beach with warm food being served can never go wrong 😊
Abra Ride: A complimentary scenic Abra ride comes with your stay.
Dining: We had opted for a halfboard, so had dinner and breakfast at Sofra. It was not only amazing but was done with all safety measures in place! For lunch we went to Shang Palace for a Dimsum brunch which was so delectable!
Overall, If I had to rate on the ambience, value for money, location, cleanliness, safety, service I would definitely want to give it a big 5/5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We have just finished our wonderful relaxing holiday at the Shangri-La. This is our second stay at the hotel we were last here in October 2019 and had such a relaxing time we thought we would come back for some winter sun.
Rooms
This time we opted to go for the Club Horizon room where you have complimentary evening snacks and drinks (happy hour only 5:30-7:30pm). We were very impressed with this, the room is smaller than the premiere room but we felt the benefit of having our own cocktail lounge was outweighed.
Service
On arrival we met with Lyndon the Chief Concierge who’s knowledge of what to do in and around the hotel was excellent. He made us feel so welcome and at home and is a real credit to the Hotel!
Jane who is the Head of the Horizon Lounge is extremely efficient and friendly and gives the lounge its warmth and homily feel. Her staff Gazel in particular take a special interest and remember what you ordered the previous evening. The Chef’s in the lounge were excellent and I guess as directed by Jane made a special effort for my wife as she is a vegetarian making her something special to eat every evening.
Restaurants
The choice at the Shangri-La is almost overwhelming, you will not need to go anywhere else.
Our favourite is the Hoi An Vietnamese restaurant, living in London we have a choice of Vietnamese restaurants but this place is hands down the best we have ever had! Again the service here by Sheska who remembered us from our previous visit was incredible she actually recalled what we had to eat when we last here!! We were introduced to Ta Van by the Head Chef Nikos and Ta Van made my wife a special meal. Truly a memorable experience.
The Buffet and Main Restaurant is the Sofra is headed up by Nikos. Quite honestly if anyone says that they can’t find anything delicious to eat here they must be Mad. I’m a fussy eater and Nikos the head Chef made things specifically for my taste. Really the whole experience at this Hotel is made by the Staff they simply cannot do enough for you a real 5 star service.

The overall staying experience is totally impressive and way beyond our expectation. It was my son's birthday and the following day for my wife that's why we opted to stay on this hotel. Big thank you to Serlou who did the booking a month ago before our selected dates. The check-in is very quick, thanks to Zen on the front desk for the very warm welcome and heartwarming smile that enable us to go quickly inside our rooms since the kids were already excited. Then, the balloons all over the place, HBD flower petals on the bed and happy birthday balloons on the headboard surprises us all since we didn't expect such effort done by the Housekeeping team headed by Bharat. Thank you Bharat for that. Few moments later, housekeeping team came over to our room to give us more birthday present, thanks to Mohammed Khan, Rose, Ushan and Tikaram for singing that happy birthday song. My wife really did like the present you gave her and she can't stop saying she likes it. Then few hours later again, Estella and another housekeeping staff drop by to give another present to my son whose birthday is on that day. My son was really happy and can't even stop smiling and jumping for joy. Truly I appreciate their efforts in ensuring our stay will be memorable one. Then our dinner buffet is overflowing of lots of variety of food. Special thanks to that Filipina girl (long hair) who is assigned to our table for the heartwarming assistance. My kids and my family as well is very happy. With regards to the room and all the amenities, it's all neat and clean and up to the high standard. The infinity pool is very spacious that we can even follow the social distancing protocol to prevent Covid-19 infections. The water is very refreshing and the lifeguards are very well trained and attentive to ensure all the guest are safe. The breakfast buffet in Sofra is sumptuous and of course delicious that we even spend almost 3 hours eating there. Of course, my kids love all the foods displayed. Special mention to Morriz who is assigned to our table for the great interaction to ensure we all feel comfortable while dining. Then our Abra experience won't be memorable without the lively interaction of Rahim.
Truly a hidden paradise (Shangri-La) in the middle of the desert.
Hats off to the whole management and staff.

We spent my son's 1st birthday in you hotel and it was the best decision I have made during this pandemic! I booked 2 rooms, for my family and for my cousin and her husband. They left Shangrila a day earlier and I must say the cleaning was superb. We heard the housekeeping staff enter the room multiple times for 2 days before they places the "this room has been sanitized" seal. I believe the hotel has strict protocols and this will give every guest a peace of mind. Thank you Shangrila! Will definitely come back!

We were sceptical about going to hotel due to pandemic but were really stressed out and wanted a break badly. I specifically asked for room with as much greenery view as possible. Stayed here 2 weeks back. Got garden executive room 152, which had indeed a better view. Recommended to book this room type, as it also has direct access to pool, beach etc. Pool and beach is nearby. Food was good. But, got delayed a while. No buffet due to covid.
Had early check-in at 11 AM and late check out at 2, which really sealed the deal for us. The view od sheikh Zayed mosque is no more possible due to new construction. Some brat kids were playing with their water ski nearby that day which sort of spoiled the evening in the beach.
Room was really spacious. TV volume can be adjusted for bathroom. :-) which was a first experience. Only suggestion is when we ordered water in room, bottles were delivered by hand at close proximity by the attendant, no social distancing there. Maybe water bottles could be kept in a bag at the door & attendant could ring bell and stay away from door. Also, serve breakfast one by one as it will give us hot food, instead of bringing everything together & making it just warm. But, Everything seems to look fine till now which is almost 2 weeks from day of stay.
Overall, great place to visit.

One week ago I came to the Shangri La in Abu Dhabi wiling to make my wife a surprise for our wedding anniversary and booked a room in the hotel. From the very first interaction with the hotel personnel everything and everyone seemed to be so helpful and happy to welcome me with an obvious luxurious touch. On the reception I’ve been assisted by Lubna who helped me with all the details in order to set the unforgettable surprise that I want and she was amazing. She took care of everything in such professional way. Believe me she is the right person to assist you especially if you wanna prepare a surprise. Once we checked in we were really impressed about the room and the service received and we relaxed (exactly want we wanted). One of the attractions of the hotel is the Abra (everyone should try this) which will take you for a beautiful boat ride crossing the entire resort. Here we met Rahem another amazing person who was our Abra driver for the night and he really made everything look and feel
as a VIP treatment( he waited for us to go and take beautiful pictures on some spots suggested by him as well then he came back to pick us after diner, the pictures that he made for us during the trip in exact spots where he knew like a professional that the lighting and the view will create the perfect decor for a beautiful picture) He was just amazing!
Thanks to this 2 personnel our vacation was indeed a 5 star one. We will come back and will for sure recommend the hotel to other people. Thank you to Shangri La team for offering us such beautiful memories.

Stayed in a Premier room which was enormous but it was the balcony that proved a real winner. We were able to sit out first thing in the morning with a coffee and in the evening enjoying something a little stronger. The room was immaculately maintained by the cleaning staff which included Ronald. I know there were several others involved but I didn't catch all their names.
We had lunch at the bar/pool area but found the speed of service to be a bit sluggish and inconsistent with the rest of the experience at the Hotel.
Room service was impeccable and we had the pleasure of being served by Shihab who shared his love of Indian cricket with us and made the whole experience a treat.
The beach/pool area was always spotless and again we were diligently looked after by Suresh and his team.
We dined in the hotel at both the Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants - the food was delicious and Rose's personality shone through.
The Hotel's Covid protocols were reassuring and rigorously applied by all staff which provided that additional piece of mind.
Given that the Hotel has 3 pools (including the Spa) it would enhance the experience if one of them could be designated 'Adults Only' - the pool at the beach was a haven of tranquility until some very energetic children arrived - just a thought.
Overall we had a very positive experience and look forward to returning

+1
Booked 9 nts Half Board as our first overseas holiday since COVID as we wanted luxury with sun for a relaxing fly & flop. We had previously stayed at the Fairmont Bab al Bahr & liked the area & the look of the S-L QAB so we went for it & it turned out pretty great.
We arrived 3 hours early for check-in after an overnight flight into Dubai so we were especially grateful to be able to access one of our rooms straight away. The reception team (Chen & Heeler) made a big effort to accommodate our request for adjoining rooms. The rooms are nice and spacious & the balcony is a lovely space overlooking the Sea, Grand Mosque, main pool & restaurant area.
Although we had booked Horizon Club, to get the adjoining rooms ( 1 x King room & 1 x twin for our teenage sons) we were offered rooms 322/323 (not on Club Level but still Horizon Club benefits). This was not a problem as housekeeping team gave us all the extras that come with Horizon Club such as L’Occitane toiletries & we could still use the HC lounge.
The pool & beach areas felt really relaxing, just what we needed for a relaxing sunshine break. It was really nice to walk in the grounds, along the beach or up to the QAB souk.
We only experienced two problems during our stay; the first was long trousers are required (for men) in the Horizon Club during cocktail hour. This is not required in Club Lounges at Atlantis Dubai, Jumeirah Hotels or The Fairmont Bab Al-Bahr. My problem with this rule is I looked smart. I had tailored shorts on that were below the knee with shoes & shirt yet other men were allowed in with tracksuits & females in above the knee skirts & sandals looking like they were just off the beach.
Secondly we booked half board & were made to feel uncomfortable on the first night for going to dinner at 630pm during Iftar. I’ve worked in the MENA region for 10 years & have often been asked to share food with my muslim colleagues when they break fast during Ramadan so I found this confusing. We were told the food would be “more western” if we waited until 845pm but who wants to eat this late at night? To be honest it was the same menu & all the food was very enjoyable. MY wife spoke to the hotel manager the next day and this was not a problem & we even had some lovely sweets & chocolates sent to our room for the next 2 days.
Apart from that, a lovely stay, Special thanks to Jem, Bianca, Nikki & Madhuri in Horizon Club & Mildred at Breakfast in Sofra BLD.

As far as I can remember they were easy. The person handling the boat will also give you a hand if needed. They were very polite and helpful :)
There is a soukh which has a supermarket.
Just ask at reception, or attendant at the boat station. Use of an evening as more romantic.
