I booked the hotel 3 days prior my visit, and the unfortunate thing, they dint book it, before I travelled, I called to confirm it, they say its OK, after all that travel and we are tired, no room no booking was made, I asked to speak to the manager, receptionist was so rude and said I cannot and the manager is sleeping, so disappointed and really regretted booking, I feel sorry for you people if that's how you handle your guests, shame on
Located at a stone's throw away from rainbow street this is a very nice boutique hotel. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. Wifi is complementary. The breakfast was very good. Special mention for the staff and especially the manager of the hotel who were very helpful in arranging a rented car.
Stayed in Antika for 4 nights but would not recommend as it lacks standards on all aspects: rooms were not clean, bed can be wobbly (i changed rooms a few times) staff only speaks arabic and sleeps in the reception on the floor, stairs to ground floor of building are not opened and blocked with rubbish, so no exit in case of emergencies as the elevator is closed in the night. Breakfast was poor and on top of that the neighbourhood (nice central but) is very noisy and hence sleeping can be impossible if you have the wrong room.
Antika has assets — it is the best located hotel and atmospheric created by its furnishings, immediately upon entry with most rooms enjoying views of Old Amman (the best views of the city). But whilst basic is acceptable and even super basic breakfast — cleanliness should always be a given. The floors had clearly not been regularly cleaned, if at all, for weeks and were unpleasant underfoot. Our group also had rooms with only one single sheet for couples to share across their double bed. And water supplies were inconsistent. No idea why Antika is not keeping up its standards anymore. Sad about it as family (hosts) seem so lovely.
I was in two minds about writing a review for this hotel, but in the end felt other travellers should be warned that this hotel is definitely not worth the 4/5 rating it currently enjoys on Trip Advisor. Several months prior to our trip to Jordan we booked, via Agoda, for a 5 night stay. On the first night of our stay, a water pipe broke and we woke up to no water in the hotel. Instead of being pro-active about this unfortunate turn of events and informing guests of what had occurred and offering compensation/alternatives, it was left to us to ask the staff why we had no water to our room, and to keep asking when it would be fixed. At first we were told "an hour", then "maybe this afternoon", then when we threatened to check out and find another hotel, it was "lunchtime". Clearly the hotel had no idea when the problem would be fixed, and as we had another four nights to go, we felt we had no choice but to find alternative accommodation, which we did. When we went to check out at around 11.00am, the owner was not at all happy with us and couldn't seem to understand why we were leaving. Perhaps the fact that we couldn't use the toilet, let alone have a shower, might have had something to do with it? To be clear, at no stage were we offered compensation or any alternative options, not even where we could access the basic amenity of a bathroom while we waited for the pipe to be fixed. Upon check out, I said I'd like a refund for the 4 nights we had not used. The owner said he had not received our money. However, upon returning home and checking our credit card, I found Agoda had, as per the booking conditions, taken the full amount one week prior to our stay. So to say no payment had been received was completely untrue, but it gets worse. We contacted Agoda to let them know what had happened and to seek a refund of the 4 nights we had not used. We got an offer of a 50% refund, but upon going back to them and saying we wanted the 4 nights refunded, they then said the hotel was not going to give us any refund at all. The reason advanced was because we had voluntarily checked out, when they had offered us alternative accommodation, which we had refused. We were absolutely dumbfounded at this blatant untruth, with no mention of the fact that they had been unable to provide us with the accommodation as booked, that is, with running water to the bathroom! To cut a long story short, after further exchanges with Agoda, who weren't particularly helpful in this situation, we eventually ended up with the original 50% refund. In all our travels, we have never had an experience like this one. The hotel's attitude, both at the time of the incident with the broken water pipe and afterwards, beggars belief and was in no way customer oriented. You have been warned!!…
