Detailed Reviews
The Star Plaza - Amman, Jordan formerly the Tyche Hotel.
The name apparently changed after new management took over. The also have a new lobby which although is not the most modern it is clean and bright. With enhanced security you do feel a bit safer. There are at least 1 or 2 security guards at all times and a security scanner. Like the ones at the airports that you walk through that have been implemented. The Front Desk staff is fairly helpful and overall the staff is quite nice. The rooms are are large and equipped with a t.v. and a little round table and two chairs. The location is central to Amman and it is about a 10-15 walk to a KFC, internet cafe, currency exchange and a little bustling strip. It is nestled in the heart of a residential area. Breakfast is included which is suprisingly good. With components of juice, carbs, tea and coffee. It is an older hotel and although the heating in one of the floors had gone the other floors were still working and the staff was very kind about it. For one night it was about $30 USD. It was a pleasant surpirse. Although it was a budget hotel it was certainly clean and comfortable. A nice touch was the shoe cleaning machines equipped on most floors. The phone number is [--]

Tired and worn old hotel.location not the best as far away from shops.
Comfortable beds however the rooms and hotel in general need a full refurbishment.
Breakfast very poor in both quality and selection.
The worse aspect of this hotel is getting them to order a taxi as I waited 20 minutes outside as the hotel is located in a small suburban street with little passing traffic

The hotel is situated in a purely residential area with no facilities within easy walking distance outside the hotel apart from a very small 'supermarket'. As in the rest of Jordan, the drinks are expensive in the small and smokey bar, even though we were the only ones in there and are non-smokers.
The breakfast options are very limited but the evening 'buffet' type meal is adequate.
The servicing of our room was very poor. The coffee sachets and tea bags were not automatically refilled and there was only bottled water on arrival. For our last night, early departure at 04.00, the bed had not been made from the previous night.
As you may suspect, I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

This hotel is run down, old, and a dump. The carpets are worn out, the rooms are not clean, the air conditioner doesn't work, the safe doesn't work, etc. The only thing good about it is the swimming pool. Recently purchased, owners should make changes and fix it up before taking guests. Had to move our room after hours of trying to get someone to fix the air conditioning. Not conveniently located at all.
Staying here with a tour group and am very disappointed with the arrangement provided by G Adventures, which has continuously put travelers up in 1 star hotels so far. Stay clear of this group as well. We will never book with them again.
A total waste of money.

Stayed here a few nights at the start of our roundtrip through Jordan and one night at the end as well. It's located in a quiet are, which is great concerning the very busy traffic all around Amman. It's located opposite the orthodox school, so early in the morning there is some traffic and children playing in the schoolyard.
Check inn was a bit messy and slow both times. Wifi worked fine, in the lobby and in the room. The hotel is said to have a recent upgrade but it still all looks quite worn out. Mold in the showercurtain and the minibar, holes in the curtains and spots in the carpet. Bathroom wasn't as clean as I'd hoped, spots on the mirror, hairs on the floor and in the bathtub. It's quite a challenge to use the shower in a way you don't wet the entire bathroom but waterpressure is fine as well as the availability of hot water. Beds were good. Spacious rooms. European plugs (two pins) needed.
Breakfast was ok but not the best we had in Jordan. Bread was only really fresh at the first day of our stay, and no fruit or fresh juice.
We missed a bit of a personal touch in the way the staff works as well, but I think they try to act professional and that's fine ofcourse. Cleaning the lobby and stairways is taken very seriously, from the breakfastroom we saw the small army of young male cleaners re-arrange the pillows and chairs with great precision and use their magic (but pretty chemically smelling) cleaning spray on the floors very enthusiastically every morning.
Take the hotelbusinesscard with you when you go out and want to take a taxi back, cause drivers have a hard time finding it. There are some shops and restaurants whithin walking distance of the hotel, but taxi's are very affordable and not hard to find. Make sure they use their meter.
Overall, fine and quiet place for what I guess is a reasonable price but nothing fancy and a little impersonal.

This is a very basic 3-star hotel. Everything is okay but not great, including the food. It has a swimming pool but it wasn't open - perhaps too cool in May! It's in a residential neighbourhood so there are no shops or restaurants nearby. There is a very small supermarket with NO prices around the corner but it closes frequently. However, there is one saving grace: if you walk about 15 minutes down the road you will find a huge supermarket (Al-Ahlia Plaza) with everything and marked prices.

Welcoming hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Nothing outstanding accommodation wise but it did the job nicely. Food is fine. There is not much to see in the immediate vicinity so if you want to go to the centre you'd need a taxi. I was told the hotel can arrange this for you and the cost is reasonable.

This hotel looks nice when you arrive. Reception has been recently redecorated and check in was good.
The rooms are clean, but very basic - they need modernising and sprucing up.
The hotel is located in a residential area and there is NOTHING to do here. Fine if all you are doing is checking in and going to bed, less fine if you are spending any time here. It’s no where near the town or any of the monuments or ruins.
The breakfast was Jordanian and perfectly reasonable. The breakfast is lovely, but you need to appreciate the idea of humous for breakfast - this is typical in most Jordanian hotels. If you are expecting a Full English or American or a Standard Continental you’ll be disappointed.
Wi-fi works well here.

Stayed a night here. Check in was handled by my tour manager, and was flawless. Luggage was very promptly portered.
Room was large in size for today's standards! Though aged, very well maintained! Neat and comfortable.
Dinner was good and was well served. The staff were very pleasent and service was very prompt!
The bed was so soft and comfortable. Had a very pleasent sleep!
