The hotel location is excellent; however, the customer service is some of the very worst we have experienced in Israel - in our dozen (wonderful) visits to this great country. Except for the very friendly & caring an older gentleman, who sits at the entrance of the hotel (must be security for the hotel), the rest of the staff is young, unprofessional, uncaring and extremely cold. It was like we were invisible. Even when we had our morning coffee, at the lobby bar, the barrister/sever never greeted us or spoke to us. I repeatedly asked to speak with the concierge, for help with dinner reservations, and I was told she/he was in Eilat - no one was there to substitute for the concierge position. The front desk staff was not able to help or chose not to. The hotel team needs a major course in customer service. Also - beds are comfortable but the rooms are tired and the cleaning service is dismal at best. No one even changed our sheets the entire 5 nights of our stay - and we were in a suite. Adi is apparently the new front desk manager, and he is trying - but he has his work cutout for him with his unfriendly uncaring team. Before checkout, we expressed our disappointment with our stay, and Adi and the female manager were very receptive with our criticism, and very apologetic. We will be back to Israel, God willing next year, and hope to give The Herbert Samuel another try - hopefully with an improved team.

The Herbert Samuel has an outstanding location just off Kikar Zion, comfortable rooms, wonderful staff and a very good breakfast. Walking to the shul, old City and German Colony is easy from this starting point. The breakfast buffet is generous on Shabbat and weekdays alike. There's a Shabbat elevator and kosher supervision, if that matters for you. I was only disappointed a bit by disability access. If you use a cane or wheelchair, know that cabs can't come right to the hotel. They drop you a block away on a hill. The main door opens onto stairs without a ramp and you'll need to take the side entrance if you can't take stairs.

The hotel need a huge renovation, the carpets, hallways, chairs, inside and outside the room are dirty! Even the lobby, the furniture in very dirty and old! I had to pick up a towel in my bath room, and when I picked it up it came out dirty, dust and hair! Awful, dirty outdated… they didn’t have towels in the pool, so, people had to go out from the pool To the elevator soaking wet, it was a mess… I saw many garbage in one of the corridors, the vacuum from the housekeeping was there, nope, they didn’t bother to vacuum the hallways….. I think they can have a great hotel, mainly because of the location, but it’s dirty, outdated……. I Won’t stay there If Go back To Jerusalem…..
