This is a famous old building basic and in a great location for the old city with a great rooftop view, it has a unique atmosphere fitting with its location, a good place to meet fellow travellers, I really enjoyed staying there.

I stayed there for 5 nights. Rooms are basic but no problem because it's one of the cheaper hostels. The bathroom was smelling strange (like asbestos). Morning time it was a bit noisy with a school next door. Breakfast was very basic and today after half an hour it was already finished (and nobody filled up). Location is great, the... More

I had the much regretted idea of booking a last minute 'deluxe' twin private room in this hotel-hostel with a friend and our stay there was in few words just awful. The tiny and incredibly dirty room we were given was literally infested by two inches long moth flies (alive, dead, and all stages in between) which, I presume, entered... More

Petra HOSTEL is a great place to stay while exploring Jerusalem provided you book a private room with private bathroom on the ground floor and take your own bedding. There are also dorm rooms and sleeping on the roof. The views from our room and the roof where breakfast is served are simply amazing. Built in the 1800s, you are... More

NICE LOCATION VILLAINOUS HOSTEL. The view is that good, the rooms but very dirty on the second floor better do not go. The only good is in the Old City of Jerusalem. The blankets sheets stank. The mattresses were miserable. NOT in this hostel never go again.

We had a great time in petra hostel. We booked two beds in a dorm for four nights but had the room for outselves the whole stay. The room had a balcony which was super good just for hanging out and observe the masses on the streets. The staff was welcoming and supportive. The hostel is super cheap compared to... More

I stayeg there with my family and relatives, nineteen persons in all. It was during ramadan 2014. we spent one week there. Well situated within the old city Jerusalem. Ideal for a resting place to visit all places within the old city. For Mulsims walking distance to pray five time the daily salaat in Masjid Al Aqsa.

The hostel is perfectly located just by the Damascus gate of the old town. The view from the roof is really great - you have a panorama of old Jerusalem just before your breakfast table. These are good things about the hostel. The rooms are of poor standard, plaster was falling on us and our things from the ceiling, the... More

Been to this hostel 3 times. Maybe I keep coming back because it is just by the entrance of the Jaffa Gate. They have now added NEW to their name: New Petra Hostel and have a website where you can book. The place is quite dirty, roofs of the rooms despite their bright colors have water inflitration, bathrooms are a... More

I stayed in the dormitory room but there are also available private rooms. Dormitory has a little balcony and 8 beds. Bathroom is shared and since there is also the shower, often there is to wait to use it. For breakfast there was pita bread with a vegetable salad, some sauces, cheese, marmalade, tea and coffee. Water is always available... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Petra Hostel is a large and remarkable hostel that is located directly inside Jaffa Gate, offering a prime location. We have wide range of options, we have deluxe and super deluxe and simple rooms, for every kind of budget. The hostel has four floors. The roof of the hostel also offers additional rooms, as well as the option to rent a mattress or tent on the roof itself and sleep under the Jerusalem stars. It is a simple yet quite large hostel, considering it is inside the Old City. Each floor is has of a large common area, which includes several seating areas, a communal kitchen and fridge, and a TV (shared) as well as a common library where you can select different books and a dining table. Our hotel is reachable by taxi and car (right up to the front door)Much has changed since the Petra Hostel's conception in the early 1830's. But the wonderful ambiance, clean and beautiful well priced rooms, and the most beautiful views in Jerusalem of the old city have remained and continue to be a 180 year constant. With such famous budget travelers such as; Herman Melville, Mark Twain and General Allenby- Petra Hostel's reputation is as poetic and as mystical as the Holy Land itself A common kitchen can be used for cooking is available, as well as laundry service, an airport shuttle service, internet service, and amazing roof Most of the rooms are ensuite with private bathroom. Common bathrooms are also available. The atmosphere is home-like. There are stained glass windows and light fixtures. The outstanding feature of this hostel is its view. Because of its prime location, every window in the hostel has a stunning view of either the wall of the Old City and the street below, or the rooftops of the Old City. Seemingly every room opens onto a balcony. The best area, by far, is the roof, where there are separate rooms with an incredible panoramic view of the entire Old City as well as the Mount of Olives, Mount Scopus, etc. Every landmark is visible!Free breakfast now available for everyone staying in the hostel. ... more   less
