St John Hotel is a short walk from the centre of Selçuk in a residential area which has some authentic Turkish houses. The hotel stands out as a more grandeur building. The castle (kale) is on the hill above the hotel. It is off the road towards Izmir and involves a U turn as you leave town. There is adjoining street parking. This small hotel has a pool and restaurant, but breakfast only was being served during my stay due to Covid regulations causing staffing issues. The room had a view over neighbouring properties, but other rooms look at the street or the court yard with a the swimming pool. Then room was quiet with the windows closed. Comfortable bed and quality furnishings. Room and shower room were clean. Plenty of hot water. Buffet breakfast gave a wide choice of good quality foods; a “supreme” Turkish breakfast. Limited English was spoken but enough to provide good friendly service. A boutique hotel with a price to match the quality, but may be not the best value in town.

We were staying only one night in this hotel but really loved it. It has a romantic yard with seating areas and a very clean little pool. Our room was modern, spotless and very quite. The ruins of Efes are in walking distances if you don't mind a 4km stroll on a canopied boulevard. Staff spoke limited English but was super friendly and helpful. Typical Turkish breakfast with good fresh cheese.

We arrived late hours to find this quaint place decorated in a very unique style. We were greeted by a friendly flock of felines. Unfortunately, room policy did not allow for more that three in a room. We are a family of four...so that was a little difficult. No cancellation allowed and it was late, so we paid extra. Swimming pool wasn't full (covid? ). Room was bathed in air freshener (covid?). However, it was clean, the beds comfortable, the cats interesting, the staff friendly.

Having booked 2 nights at this hotel based on earlier reviews, I had high expectations. I arrived by train from Izmir with the hotel being a short 7-8 minute walk from the station. It is located in a side street in Selcuk and it has to be said the location is not that inviting and on the occasions I was there a lot of kids/youths were hanging around in the street which could intimidate some. I understand the hotel was once and old jail and for the outside (inviting exterior day and night) it sticks out like a beacon of grandeur in a not so nice street. On entering I was shocked to see a dark and dingy interior which was very cluttered. I had a room overlooking the pool (very small) and whilst generally comfortable the room was small and the ensuite bathroom I found dated and its ceiling had seen better days. I was expecting a buffet breakfast but was surprised to see a few tables laid out with a plates of tomatoes, cucumber, olives a couple of cheeses plus a small bowl of cereal and a pot of fruit yoghurt. Filter coffee was made for me but no explanation of any other offerings. I had to ask for milk and had to find bread which was covered elsewhere in the dining room. A very disappointing breakfast and I elected not to bother with it on my final day. Whilst the experience may be different in the summer (I understand there is a roof terrace with good views), in winter it seems as though there is an air of disinterest. Rooms were cleaned each day and fresh towels provided. Generally, it is OK for staying one night if you are visiting Ephesus/Sirince.

The lobby is old fashioned but lovely however it looked as it if hasn’t been cleaned in months wasn’t a great smell but hotel wasn’t busy as cold time of the year so maybe it’s not being cleaned. The reception were friendly gave us a map of the area. Can walk to hotel from train station as very small town. Located in back streets looks daunting but the locals are friendly. Room was a decent size old fashion design was nice with a balcony although was too cold to go out. Room was clean was a fridge with water provided. Bed was comfy. Over all was fine for a night.
