AHMET EFENDI EVI IS SITUATED IN THE HEART OF ISTANBUL, in what is known as the Cankurtaran area. This is one of the oldest Byzantine towns and is at the heart of the Sultanahmet area. We are located about 20m away from Akbiyik Mosque, which was established in 1453, making it one of the first mosques to be built after the conquest of Constantinople on May 29th 1453.

Great location in old Istanbul. Small family owned hotel. My favourite thing about this hotel was the warm welcome and care received from the owners. Breakfast in particular was a great start to the day where the host generated conversation with and between the guests to give a lovely chatty and friendly start to the morning. They looked after airport taxi but also gave us some tips on some lesser known sights that we would never have seen otherwise. The service was excellent and the hotel was great value for money.

Absolutely loved it. Great location close to everything and easy access to the ferries and waterfront plus Gurnel, the lady who runs it, is soooo friendly. Honestly if you're looking for a slightly out of the way place which takes you back to the 1950's in terms of gentle, breeze in the curtains pleasure it is for you.

We booked over a month ahead for a family of 5. It was listed in the Lonely Planet so we trusted it. However <48 hours before our stay we received an unapologetic cancellation via email. The reason given was that the family room wasn't big enough, contrary to the website which allowed us to book the family room for 5. This could've been picked up earlier on in the month, rather than last minute, at which point we were unable to find an alternative accommodation with 3 children in such a central location of Istanbul.

The owner offered us an alternative accommodation in the hotel next to door, but at an additional rate of >33% of the original price. We had no option but to accept. This alternative placement was completely unacceptable for 5 people, however, that is a different business. It felt slightly like a set-up/con.

I can not recommend this for large groups due to the risk of last minute cancellation. Not trustworthy.

The hotel is located in the area of Sultanahmet, all the main monuments are very easily accessible. The owners are really friendly, welcoming and willing to give you all the information and advice you need for your visit.
Unfortunately, our double room was not very comfortable: it was very small and, as it was located on the top floor of the structure (similar to an attic), there was not much air circulation; although it had a small terrace on the roof, it was not easy to open the door/window because of the bad smells coming from the nearby restaurants.

I may have written this in other reviews, but I have 10 years of experience in hotels in Canada and, when I check into a hotel, I tend to be hypercritical. In spite of this, I would have to say that Ahmet Efendi Evi is a perfect place to stay.

When I checked in I felt as though I was being welcomed into their home; the entrance is into the kitchen and lounge area which gives the property a very homey feel. I appreciated this after my days in Istanbul seeing the sites.

The hospitality shown by the staff is world class, genuine and relaxed. They understand that true hospitality is anticipating a guest's needs and providing for those needs without the guest having to ask.

My room was on the top floor and provided a great view of the rooftops of Istanbul with the Blue Mosque in behind - stunning. The room was clean, tastefully decorated and comfortable - all you can ask for.

The location of the hotel was perfect in Sultanahmet - a ten minute walk past restaurants and cafes to the historical centerpieces of the city.

There were no flaws - I was made to feel like a friend by the staff and made to feel at home in the surroundings. A perfect stay.

Stayed here for 4 nights in June. Yusef is there day and night and is polite and extremely helpful with any questions you may have. After checking us in, he also circled all the tourist spots for us on a map and also showed us an eatery that’s very reasonable and not too touristy.

The location of the hotel is great! Close to all the main sites but away from the crowds in the Old City. About a 10 minute walk to Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapli Palace, as well as the T1 tram line. It’s also walking distance to Grand Bazaar & Spice Market (30 min), plus traditional Turkish Bath (15 mins).

The wifi worked great throughout the property, AC in the rooms very handy in the summer, and breakfast was plentiful.

We look forward to staying here again at the end of our trip to Turkey. Prices are slightly higher due to being in the Old City, but worth the extra few dollars in my opinion.

The manager made us feel as if we had arrived home, and he was very helpful in advising us things to see and do in Istanbul and Turkey. The room was clean and comfortable, although the shower was small. Our buffet breakfast was great and always fresh and tasty.
