It’s Unfortunate that Café Halic is not open anymore and I did not have the privilege of staying in one of the rooms but did eat here in May 2014. Our large group of businessmen arrived in Istanbul early one morning and we were taken to Café Halic for breakfast before heading onto our eventual hotel. It was a steep...

We recently stayed at "Cafe Haliç", which as noted by other reviewers is no longer a functioning cafe. It is however one of the most wonderful hotels I've ever stayed at. The stay from start to finish was superb. We opted to be collected at the Airport (arranged with the owner of the hotel before arriving). The transfer was smooth...

We stayed in the king room, for four nights, opting for the breakfast and airport transfer. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the professional transfer service and quickly taken to the hotel. We were greeted by the owner and her nephew- both exceptionally friendly and attentive. The nephews English is better than the owners, but she more...

We have stayed here for five nights, and in some respects were quite happy with our stay. But there are a number of problems with this guesthouse, none of which were clear from its advertising. PROS: The location: very close to the Suleymaniye Mosque and within walking distance of the Spice Market/New Mosque, is special (very few hotels here) and...

We travelled with two other couples to Istanbul and we stayed in a 3 bedroom suite. It was very clean and the beds were extremely cozy and comfortable. The food was incredible. We only ate dinner there once and it was great! We had coffee and breakfast every morning and it was perfect for fuelling us up for some long...

Wonderful, clean and handy to our needs. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere was so homelike. If we return to Istanbul we would stay there again. The view from our three bedroom apartment balcony was amazing.

My husband and I met up with my in-laws and stayed in this lovely guesthouse. Their three room suite was perfect for our family. The view from the balcony was the perfect way for them to observe Istanbul for the first time. The restaurant was delicious and very relaxing. We stayed in a spotlessly clean and well furnished 3 bed apartment/suite here in May 2013, with very comfortable beds and the owners/staff were wonderful. The standout feature is the view, which is enjoyed by most (if not all) of the rooms as well as the excellent restaurant - panoramic across the city and the Bosphorus including the Galata tower...

Called here quite by accident and found a very clean guest house and cafe just by the Sulimanye mosque. It has remarkable views over the Golden Horn and looked very smart and clean, in a quiet neighbourhood.

Café Halic is an unpolished gem. It is in a great location on the southwest side of the famed Halic (Golden Horn), the maritime economic engine around which Istanbul was built for the past 12,000 years. It is within about 200m meters of the Sulimanye (Solomon) Mosque and an easy walk to all of the major historical sites – Haiga...

Staying in Grand Bazaar

Neighborhood Profile
Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighborhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.
