This hotel is in a great location.. If you like things a bit hipster. The neighbourhood is full of swanky bars and young stylish Turks and travellers taking selfies in front of everything that stands still long enough to achieve that essential pose or pout. There is enough street art and shabby hipster chic to keep your instagran account pinging...

Very pleasant little hotel in an up and coming area of Istanbul. Great staff - very accommodating. Rooms are nice and the breakfast is very good. Also free tea and filter coffee on tap is a nice touch. Certainly recommend the hotel and location.

Breakfast was included but... as it turned out we could not have our breakfast because it's from 8 till 11 am. We checked-out from the hotel at 7 am. Though we discussed our early check-out (the exact time) and breakfast with the receptionist in the evening when we have arrived in advance, we were really surprised when we were said...

We spent two nights at the Sub. The location us great, close to all the sites and to public transportation. The rooms are on the small side. Same with the bathrooms. Quality of construction is not the best. Room was noisy, street noise, cars/trucks and also from bars and night clubs. The breakfast was really good. Nice spread of fresh...

One of the best things of going to Istanbul is that you are spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation but SuB Karakoy is probably the hippest place to stay. I have to say SuB Karakoy is located in a rather good location: walking distance to both Tophane/Karakoy tram station, Galata bridge and even closer to some of the...

The location of this hotel, minutes from the famous Galata bridge, is really fantastic. The nearby streets are full of great cafes, restaurants and bars whilst still retaining the exotic individuality of this amazing city. The rooms are comfortable and surprisingly quiet for such a central location. We felt very safe here and we're well looked after by helpful hotel staff....

After spending 10 days exploring this amazing city, I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else. Absolutely perfect location surrounded by great restaurants, cafe's and cute shops. A 3 minute walk to the tram station ( which we used to go everywhere), and 5 minutes walk from kilic ali pass hamam - a must! Rooms were clean and quiet, breakfast was always...

I loved this place. The rooms are simple but very comfortable, in an industrial chic kind of way. It's a nondescript 1960s building in a fairly decrepit neighborhood, visually speaking - but it's the center of the best of contemporary Istanbul. There's a stunningly restored hammam (with an amazing masseur) a block away, and the best food I've had in...

I loved SuB Karakoy. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and gave some great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. The hotel has a good atmosphere and the rooftop bar is a lovely place to enjoy a few drinks after a busy day. The area it's located in is great - lots of excellent coffee shops, bars and...

Staying in Karakoy

Neighborhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Given the boggling variety of architectural and design styles that crowd the eye in Istanbul, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to find the industrial-chic SuB Hotel in Karaköy (née Galata), the ancient commercial and cultural core of the city. And yet, let’s be honest: it is a bit of a surprise. SuB Hotel, quirky capitalization and all, looks more like a place you’d find in Greenpoint (Brooklyn) or Neukölnn (Berlin) than in the oldest part of one of history’s great crossroads of civilizations. ... more   less
