What a beautiful old hotel. It was built for the clients of the Orient Express to stay in. It is a beautifully maintained hotel steeped in history. The furnishings tie in perfectly with the age of the hotel. The staff in the hotel were the best we have ever encountered. Our stay there was perfect and the view from our... More

I wanted to stay at the Pera Palace because I love hotels with history and character. This one didn't disappoint at all. The welcome was warn and courteous and I was escorted to my room in the oldest elevator in Turkey - dating back to the hotel's opening in 1895. The room itself was spacious and decorated sympathetically to the... More

I loved this hotel. Old world style, Agatha Christie stayed there , has a lot of memrobilia from this era throughout the hotel. Rooms are spacious , beautifully decorated. Comfortable. Great spa. With great Turkish hammam. A must. Do.

I was travelling alone in the final days of a big trip. This beautifully historical and elegantly appointed hotel was a god send. Caring staff, particularly the customer service manager and l felt completely secure during the turmoil. Feel for the people at this time.

We loved the Pera Palace. Built in 1892 for travelers coming off the Orient Express, this hotel is what the upper class demanded and it still has the luxury and service one would expect. Most of the hotel's historic features are well-preserved, including the original elevator (the second one installed in Europe only after the Eiffel Tower). The beautiful terrace... More

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Pera Palace. We were given a lovely welcome with drinks in the lobby and brought to our room on the antique elevator the hotel is very proud of. The concierge in the lobby -- not sure of her name, but I think it was Ebru -- gave us fabulous recommendations for restaurants... More

I booked a few nights at the Pera to celebrate my husbands birthday. The Pera is really very well located not far from Istikal Avenue and Galata. It's one of those hotels that could tell a thousand stories. Guests are greeted at the door and enter into a dark and moody reception. It's not massive and grand bit really authentic.... More

I stayed only few days in this hotel, the atmosphere is amazing, fantastic!!! I felt like at home. All the personnel is friendly and professional, everyone is smiling. The location is a walking distance to the center of Istanbul. It is just amazing that the hotel was opened in 1895, it is full of the spirit of history !!! Ataturk`s room... More

This is a wonderful historic hotel. My stay actually started out a bit underwhelming with a large wedding thumping below my room. The staff took immediate care of it and moved me to a wonderful room on the 5th floor with no noise! The staff is a bit formal, but they are very efficient. We had some meeting there and... More

The historical significance of this place is great. To think this place hosted and saw so many famous and influential people. It was the place to see and be seen in the early days of the Republic, the place where the passengers from the Orient Express overnighted. Agatha Christie stayed often and tradition and some history has it wrote her... More

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighborhood Profile
Beyoglu
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
