I stayed one night at the Alzer Hotel in Istanbul when another nearby hotel which I was supposed to stay at was overbooked. I was pleasantly surprised and had no regrets. The room was furnished in Ottoman style with a ceiling chandelier. Even the telephone in the room was the old-fashioned rotary dialling type. There was a good view of...

We had a 3 day stay in Istanbul after a cruise around the coast of Turkey. I had booked a Hippodrome room, but on arrival was told that they were fully booked and so we were upgraded to the Pasha Suite! Fabulous room with separate sitting room, plasma TV, whirlpool bath. Having settled in very nicely and wondering what we...

Our first trip to Istanbul was for the wedding of our close Austrian friends' son and a beautiful Turkish girl. The bride and groom chose the Alzer Hotel for some guests while younger ones stayed in a hotel with no air conditioning - an iffy choice in August. We were more than delighted with the Alzer. The location is unbelievable...

We spent 3 nights in Istambul after a week in Egypt. I have selected this hotel because of its location. Rooms were very very small - a bathroom in my house is about the same size as the room I stayed with my wife and 3 y.o. son, furniture is very pretentious (plumage on lamps looked very funny to me)....

Nice location, OK facilities, but VERY questionable business ethics. We PRE-PAID our reservations through our travel agent-- two days at the beginning of our trip and two days at the end. First two days were fine...but upon our return, we were informed that a "small problem" existed and the hotel gave away our reservations to another group. They proposed to...

We had a fantastic holiday in Istanbul and Hotel Alzer offered Turkish hospitality at its best! From the moment of arrival we were shown to our room and was given some information about the location we were staying in and recommendations for tours/restaurants. The hotel and room were very clean and staff were very friendly making sure that we were...

I stayed at the Hotel Alzer in March with my Father and arrived fairly late and tired. I was not best pleased on arrival to find that they didn't have the room reservations we had asked for - one twin room. Instead they tried to offer us an alternative room in a different hotel! We declinded this. They then took...

Whenever we visit countries, such as Turkey, with a rich culture we like to stay at hotels which give the feeling of what it is like to live in that country. The Alzer hotel offers that and more. They kindly arranged our transfers from sabina gokcen airport, which can take 1-2 hours depending on traffic. We were welcomed at the...

On our way to Bangkok we planned to stop for one night (from 01/01 to 01/02/2008) in Istanbul. We had never been there before and simply needed a decent room in a prime location in Sultanahmet area and a late check-out, because our flight to BKK was at 11.00 p.m. “Alzer” hotel was one of the first, which offered us...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
