With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.

A tidy little hotel close to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia. Inexpensive compared to many other hotels in the area with an attentive and accommodating staff. Clean, albeit basic rooms and facilities. A short walk to the Sultanahmet tram station and most of the primary attractions in the Sultanahmet district. The one drawback to note is that the hotel can be very noisy - while it is located on a little side street, you can hear everything that is going on outside. Similarly, it doesn't appear to be well insulated between rooms, a fact that may have been lost on the couple having sex in a room near mine. Perhaps one of the limitations of having a hotel in a restored mansion!

The moment I arrived at Hotel Dersaadet I was sincerely and genuinely welcomed by the reception staff. There were lovely personal touches like the offer of apple tea and refreshments when I checked in and the welcome gift and letter from the manager which I found in my room. The room had a lovely, warm, homely feel and it was beautifully furnished, spacious and immaculately clean, just like the everywhere throughout the hotel. All the reception staff were exceptionally helpful whenever I asked for information and recommendations for places to eat, visit and shop. The hotel is in a perfect location, minutes from all the amazing places to visit in the Sultanahmet. I really enjoyed eating a delicious breakfast and having a drink on the roof terrace which has stunning views across Istanbul and the Marmara sea. I especially want to thank the hotel manager Ilhan for his incredible kindness, support and professionalism when I was told I had to leave Turkey at very short notice because flights back to the UK were being suspended at 08:00 on March 17th due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He helped me search for flights, print out tickets and book a taxi which got me to the airport only just in time for the flight! I cannot recommend Hotel Dersaadet highly enough. It deserves a five star rating for the wonderful, personalised service it offers to its guests and if I am able to return to Istanbul one day I will definitely stay there again.

On arrival you are greeting with warmth from the staff. They are the most helpful and genuinely warm staff I have ever come across in a hotel and I have travelled extensively. The room was fantastic, very clean and very cosy felt like I was at home. The location is brilliant everything is around the corner. I will be staying here on my next visit and will also recommend to family and friends. Lots of nice places to eat nearby. Dersaadet hotel has a beautiful Turkish ambience.

The very best thing about the Dersaadet is the staff. All of them, from the room cleaners to the manager, were warm and helpful. The rooftop breakfast room has wonderful views of the city and the Sea of Marmara. All the sights in the Old City are walkable from here. We recommend it very, very highly.
