this Hotel is a stunningly renovated old prison close to the hot spot of Istanbul-Hagia Sophia or blue mosque-just a few steps away. The rooms are generously big and there is nothing missing in the bath- materials of splendid marble. In the court a restaurant Avlu with great turkish specialties with a beautyful garden. The staff is extremely helpfull and polite. Just the beds were too high for average seniors to climb in.

Hotel's Favorite
Fresh flowers decorate the gracefully renovated rooms of the Four Seasons Sultanahmet where one feels a part of the elegant history of Istanbul. Only a block away from the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, the hotel provides a tranquil haven at the heart of the historic city, and the restaurant Avlu, centered in the terrace, serves a decadent introduction to Anatolian cuisine. All of the credit for our spectacular trip to Istanbul goes directly to the staff of the Four Seasons Sultanahmet. Even before our travels began, the concierge team (including Sabuhi and Derya) worked with us to plan airport transfers, dinner reservations, sightseeing tours, and a private Bosphorus cruise. Our tour guide, Recep “Reggie” Aydin (booked through the concierge) brought the history and culture of the city alive through his intellect, knowledge, and passion. From the lovely Ecrin who welcomed us to breakfast each morning to the chef of Avlu who came out of the kitchen to tell us about his Grandmother’s duck recipe, every member of staff made us feel like we were at a home away from home. We cannot wait to return.

This is the hardest review, why?, because i stayed there for three nights and was trying to find something to fault the hotel but found nothing! This was a perfect stay! I arrived at the hotel around midnight and wanted to have a drink on the terrace bar overlooking Hagia Sofia, but the bar was closed, no problem, the receptionist immediately opened the area, set up a table and was able to enjoy my drink overlooking the magnificent Hagia Sofia( it couldn't be closer). Everything about the hotel is perfectly balanced, nothing is overstated and nothing is understated. The hotel is spotless, not only the rooms but every area, cleanliness is at another level. The room was big with a big bathroom, and the bed linen was so fresh and soft. The restaurant in the courtyard is again perfect , offering a perfect breakfast, you would never know are in a big buzzing city. Finally the staff. Amazing! They are always around but not in a way that you feel that someone is always watching you, very polite but not overly in a way that makes you feel awkward.

After spending a night in a Bosporus suite in the palace wing of the Ciragan Palace, it would be very hard for this property to top that experience. When I checked in though, I thought that $2,000 a night should get me more than the Premiere level room that was overlooking a construction site and was small and dark. I was told that the Amex Platinum upgrade of one category was not available but that for 400 Euro I could upgrade to a brighter and somewhat larger Executive Suite, so of course I did. But I was pretty upset that I was being forced into this upsell at only a 200 Euro discount off the rack rate. I was hoping as a repeat Four Seasons customer to get better; ultimately a manager gave me another 200 Euro discount which made me feel a whole lot better. Anyway, this hotel is built around a pretty courtyard and there is a terrace on the rooftop with views from the sea to the courtyard to some partial views of nearby historical sites such as the Hagia Sophia. I'm not sure the hotel's $8,000 a night suite with a view of the Hagia Sophia would be worth it, especially since before covid it was about $3,000 a night. At this property you get people who speak and understand English instead of speak English but actually have no idea of what you are talking about and go on about lunch when you ask about a hotel lounge. Food emphasizes quality over quantity and whatever I had for dinner and breakfast was very good. You could ask for whatever was not on the breakfast buffet such as smoked salmon and avocado. It was quiet at night and the area around the hotel felt safe. You can walk with your shopping from the grand bazaar and it is 2 minutes to a big square with the two big mosques (Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia). An overnight stay is useful because you are in the theme park in a sense with the sites all lit up and it is easy to walk in and see them during the evening (but the Hagia Sophia is dark inside especially at night). There is also a pretty city Gulhane park about 10 minutes walk away. There is a tram line but the subway is pretty far away. There is a spa in the basement and there is a decent steam room and a bathing suit dryer to dry your wet shorts. Only thing that is a minus here is the gym is really small and barely adequate; hard to believe that until a year ago there was no gym here at all. Use the hotel's VIP service to get to the airport and through it on departure or arrival. You don't want to be trying to figure out how to get a taxi or private transfer in this part of town with its restricted streets and expect to spend the first 10-15 minutes of your ride getting out of this part of town.It is 15-20 minutes further to the airport from here than from their sister property on the Bosporus. I transferred here from the Ciragan Palace and the Four Seasons Bosporus is just 2 doors away. They have a shuttle between the properties that runs several times a day. I left my suitcase with them and spent the day touring and then ended my tour at the Sultanahmet property. It saved me about 90 minutes of going back and forth just to move my suitcase around. This hotel is expanding and in another 2 years or so will double its size. If I had to choose, I would definitely stay along the Bosporus to base myself in Istanbul. I considered the Four Seasons Bosporus as well, but stayed at the Ciragan Palace because the Ciragan Palace had better accommodation options at a more sensible price, especially if you are with a family and want a seaview suite plus a connecting double room for 2 kids. Against the Sultanahmet property, the Ciragan also offered better facilities (ie: more and better food options, much better gym, pools), but one night at the Sultanahmet property gives you another side of Istanbul from the inside. If you don't mind the transfer, you should do that. But take a decent room because the smaller rooms are going to be disappointing after being along the Bosporus. And I'd be bored stiff here after a night. One thing for Four Seasons to consider: Their loyalty program is opaque to its customers who don't know where they stand with the program. I feel when I go there that I have no idea if Four Seasons values me as a customer on my own if I am not there with Amex FHR or Virtuoso amenities. It turns out that on this stay someone made me feel appreciated but that's after I complained about what I felt was a forced upsell that was just below the rack rate for that upgrade. That said, I still prefer Four Seasons to the other US major chains such as Ritz Carlton because they treat their guests well and run good properties.

Spent 3 nights at the Four Season Sultanahmet and it was AMAZING! Facility and location are the best in "old town" and while it's not inexpensive, the service and overall experience is well worth the effort. Staff literally felt like family without being overt in their efforts to take good care of you while staying. Do yourself a favor and stay here and enjoy a beverage on the roof in the afternoon and take in the beauty of Istanbul. Concierge and walkability of the area is also a "10" and overall highly recommend.

Although unfortunately we did not stay at this truly lovely hotel, a former prison converted into a luxury hotel, we went for coffee and got a lovely tour. Busra, the in house guide “story teller “ took us on a tour of the hotel and she was wonderful . We learned so much from this intelligent young lady about the hotel history. She studied architecture in University, including in Italy and is an incredible asset to the Four Seasons and we like to commend her .

I stayed here for a few days in Istanbul during my honeymoon and we loved this hotel! They absolutely spoiled us rotten with a beautiful floral arrangement, tons of snacks and personalized notes and cute honeymoon bedding. The staff are stellar here, learning your name and offering to do anything to make your stay better. They shipped some large items home for us with no issues, walked us to nearby hotels so we didn't get lost, and made reservations for us at the nearby Sultan Turkish baths. Food here is wonderful and the location in the old city can't be beat. We were lucky enough to stay just after a large renovation was completed and they had just reopened in summer of 2022. Breakfast is sumptuous and filling out in their private garden and the hotel is located in an old historic prison. Enjoy the stay - it's top notch!

The best place to be in Istanbul if you want to be close to everything in Sultanahmet. We had the Deluxe room that showcased an incredible view of the Hagia Sophia from our balcony (we were on 4th floor, Rm 420) Within steps of Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque but our guide told us no Turks call it the Blue Mosque), Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, all the big name places you come to Istanbul to see. The service is what you would expect from the Four Seasons...5-star all the way. Derya, at the concierge desk, is a gem to the organization. She took care of some rescheduling for us while we were out and about and messaged my husband with all the new details. From the moment you step through the front doors to when they close the door of your taxi on departure, you are home; and then you silently cry inside because you had to leave. Aqua Restaurant over in their Bosphorus property was a lovely seafood dinner overlooking the Bosphorus. I liked having dinner there but wouldn't stay there. Not close to any of the sites and it's a bit of a taxi ride if there's a lot of traffic. If we find ourselves in Istanbul again, we would only stay at Four Seasons Sultanahmet.
