I visited George’s restaurant on 21/11/23 for both mine and my friends Birthdays. What an absolute disappointment. The restaurant was very dark and although we were given a second lamp, my husband had to use his phone for us to see the menu. The food was terrible. The 4 meals that we received were cold and so we had to send these back. The meals had to be sent back for a second time as my coq au van was full of sharp bones and just tasted like a cheaply microwave meal. Both my husband and my friend had steak, which was of very poor quality. When the meals came back for the second time, the steak had been freshly cooked, however the rest of the meal had been reheated. A friend had mussels , which was not cooked in wine or any other sauce. This meal also included closed mussels. On a positive note the staff were attentive and listened to our complaint. We were refunded for our meal. This is a very expensive restaurant with very poor quality food and so we will not be returning. On a final note the setting is absolutely beautiful. However it was like eating a meal in a disco as the music was so loud note and inappropriate for such a beautiful setting.

Response from Fulya Ulusoy, General Manager at Georges Hotel Galata
Responded 6 days ago
Dear Brigitte, Let me start by saying that it is us who are very very disappointed by this extremely unfair review which is borderline rude, full of falsities. First; our restaurant is a romantic, beautiful venue, with no overhead lighting. This is a design preference we have kept since our opening and one of the reasons why we received the "Wallpaper Design Award", listed in the "Louis Vuitton City Guide", not to mention the "Michelin Guide". You were given additional lamps to help you read, we don't see any issues here, neither do hundreds of amazing guests who come to eat, drink and enjoy the fabulous views of Istanbul. Second; our kitchen staff, the chefs, the comis testify to the fact that your food was perfectly hot when delivered to the table. There are camera recordings of the comis placing plates in the elevator using towels so as not to burn their hands :) How hot do you want your food, Brigitte? Third; the meat! We use absolutely the best quality meat money can buy. Many of our guests resident in Istanbul ask us for the details of our butcher which we gladly share. We can give the same information to you so you can tell them that their grass fed steaks are no good. Suppliers to all the Michelin Star restaurants, they will be heartbroken, I am sure :) Fourth; coq au vin, the mussels etc. Philippe Bruel, a 45 year veteran of classical French cuisine and a legend in his realm, is our Chef de Cuisine. He designed and prepared the winter menu which you tasted. With so many deeply satisfied guests whose reviews you can read right here, I am not even going to dignify your comments with a response. Lastly; our music is beautiful, soulful jazz. Clearly not your preference but hardly the choice of a discoteque :) It's clear that you wanted to create a volatile environment so as not to pay, because not only you refused to pay for the food which you completely finished (and we didn't charge you for) but you also refused to pay for your drinks. And when you were denied that option you decided to take revenge by opening an account to write your one and only review to slander our establishment. Please be informed that we don't take such matters lightly. Sadly, there are those who still believe that they have the right to destroy the morale of hard working, honourable people everywhere, by their malignant, vindictive "opinions" published in social media platforms such as this one. Thankfully they are small in numbers. However, as we are, ladies and gentlemen here, we will wish you all the happiness in your new age. Warm regards,

We didn't stay here but were nearby so came each morning for breakfast/coffee and in the evening for a final cocktail after dinner somewhere. The view from the terrace at the top is lovely (bring sunglasses because it's very bright otherwise) and the setting really comfortable and service really friendly. Despite this, I think it's pretty expensive. Sure it's a capital city, sure it's a nice view, but £50 for some fried eggs, some French toast and a few teas and coffees is more than I'd probably expect to pay in London or Paris.

This is a seriously classy hotel in a great location a couple Of steps from Galata tower. Rooms were spacious and well furnished… bed was very comfortable. Lovely balcony which ( in our accommodation) overlooked the garden area, which meant it was quiet. The staff were lovely and very accommodating, special thanks to Yasin for his support in restaurant recommendations and general helpfulness. Thinking the tea and coffee in the room were complimentary, we were quite surprised to be presented with a bill for the two coffees we had in the room… especially unhelpful in the general melee of trying to get into the airport taxi with all the usual faffs on departure. We also didn’t visit the restaurant to eat, which had a lovely view down onto the bosphorus, but was particularly expensive in my view. If we returned to Istanbul, we would stay here again.

One family, 7 adults, for 2nts in August. From our initial enquiry, until we left the hotel, the staff were superb. Very informative and responsive to all our pre arrival enquiries. Very welcoming. Arranged arrival and departure transfers, and put us in touch with a brilliant company to arrange a guide. We had breakfast on the rooftop - highly recommended! Our 3 sea view rooms and 1 Panorama Suite were really lovely. The cat Lollipop was an added bonus! Definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for first class service, fabulous location, and full of lovely helpful staff.

Beautiful boutique hotel in a quaint neighbourhood. The hotel service is wonderful. The staff is very attentive. Fulya who manages everything at the hotel was very responsive and helped me plan my birthday trip with an itinerary. The rooms are very comfortable. My only complaint is that the AC makes a bit of a noise and the bathrooms aren’t very private if you’re sharing the room because of noise as it’s all glass with blinds on it. The rooftop is gorgeous with a wonderful bar. I loved lollipop the cat who lounges around in the hotel lobby. The only drawback is that the cobbled streets and the tiny lane mean that there aren’t taxis around. You need to call a cab in advance if required. The tram stop is about a 10 minute walk. Though well located it is a bit inconvenient because traffic in Istanbul is terrible and it’s better to walk or use public transport. Not suitable for older people and families

On June 22,2023 I had to cancel my upcoming reservation for a June 25 2023 stay at the hotel Georges in Istanbul. A parent fell ill with a brain aneurysm the night before we left on our trip. The hotel manager (Fulya) told me that they had compassion for my recent event that their 72 hour cancelation policy was strict and they are charging me for my full 4 night reservation. He told me they don’t have exceptions for any reason. I told him I would post a negative review about my experience and he said he would sue me for defamation if I did so. People need to know the truth about the hotels and their policies so they are not shocked when something like this happens. This hotel is charging me $3200+ USD because I was a few hours short of their 72 hour policy. If you are considering reserving a room at this hotel and for any reason you have to cancel please know that if you are outside of their 72 hour cancellation policy by 1 minute they will charge you the full amount of your stay.

Peter, 1. You were 20 hours 46 minutes into the no-cancellation period, not a few hours. We have rules that are clearly communicated with you, in writing, in English at the time of booking and at the time of confirmation. 2. The emails you sent to us were filled with scorn, threats and defamation (hence the need to defend our rights if we deem necessary). You attacked me personally and our establishment in your messages using very aggressive terminology. 3. Thank you for letting our future guests know that we uphold the rules and regulations for all, despite the threats and negativity we sadly received from you. We are, as I wrote to you many times, deeply and truly sorry for your mother in law and wish, hope and pray for her speedy recovery. We sincerely hope she is well and amongst her loved ones once again, giving all of you peace of heart and mind. Best regards,

This was my third stay at George's and it was as magical as the first. At arrival, we were greeted by the warmest staff, awaiting for us with their "own" delicious Turkish house liquor. While we were adjusting in the lobby after the long trip, we might have seen Lollipop, the cat, pass through the corner of our eye. Or not, she can be elusive. The views of Asia and Europe- from your room and the rooftop restaurant- are unrivaled and set the tone of special, unique and romantic. Everything about the room- from the gorgeous, warm wooden flooring, high ceilings, soft linens, plush towels and views say "welcome home." And if you want to enjoy wine or tea while watching the sunset, your room balcony is a great place. Not sure where to have dinner? Fulya, the hotel manager, secured our reservations at the hippest places, from Turkish local family spots to Michelin starred tasting menus, we were set! Want to do drinks and a sunset cruise, they'll set you up. They even organized a special birthday surprise for me. We felt at home and didn't want to leave. Fulya is most charming and runs a top-notch hotel. The entire staff (I forgot some names) but Yasin, Ahmet and anyone there works to make the difference in your stay. Don't miss Georges Hotel when in Istanbul.

This was our first trip to Istanbul and Georges Hotel Galata exceeded our expectations. First, it's located in the close-in Galata district with a rooftop restaurant with a fantastic view of Istanbul and the Bosporus. Second, the staff was friendly and helpful (connected us with a fantastic tour guide) and the small size of the hotel made things cozy, like any boutique hotel should be. Clean, welcoming, with a good restaurant and in a great location.

This was my first time in Istanbul, and this hotel was recommended to me by a travel page I belong to on Facebook. I travel solo-almost always-so, the right hotel is really important to me. This could not have been better. The moment I made my reservation, a couple of months ago, (and I was nervous about all of it, as I had no more than a cursory knowledge of Istanbul or Turkey) I awoke the morning after reserving my room, to a few emails with welcoming information and requests for my preferences as to what I would like to do on my trip. So; it gave me great peace of mind, immediately. I also arranged Airport transfers within these introductory email communications. When I arrived at the airport, the driver was easy to find and took me directly to the hotel-was friendly and professional. I arrived at the hotel to be greeted by the manager who brought me a welcome cordial and sat and talked with me for about 20 mins about my life and travels. Really a lovely beginning to my stay. My room is beautiful -I’m still here for another day- with a window recess (like a bay window) called an “Oriel” which is relaxing to use as a place to sit and watch the activity on the street. Everything in the room is perfect and top marks. If I had one slight hiccup, it would be that I would love to have a wardrobe or better place to hang my clothes. Only a small issue for me, but maybe something to consider. The restaurant at the top of the hotel is beautiful and has a stunning view of the city and water. Really special. And the menu and wine list are both great. As well as the waiters and bartenders in both the rooftop restaurant and lobby bar. I can’t say enough good about every person I’ve met with here. Really warm and friendly. For anyone traveling in any situation—family, couple, solo, professionally…this is a great choice. The location couldn’t be better. I’m already back. Thank you!

Amazing view and great staff. Breakfast with a view is unforgettable memory. The hotel building was a house of the doctor for the last Ottoman empire , it is a historical heritage. As Istanbul is know as a cat friendly city, this hotel also has a cat - the name is "Lolipop" he is in the entrance lobby ^^
