I've been here 4 years ago and I am going to stay here next month. The location is perfect right next to Sultanahmet and the staff is awesome. Friendly and homey. The rooms are clean, breakfast is delicous, and also has airport shuttle. I definitely recommend staying here!

I visited Istanbul during June and July twice, once with my parents and the next time with my brother. Based on the reviews in TripAdvisor we got sure, this is gonna be our place to stay at. It never disappointed us because of its: 1. Superb situation in Sultan Ahmed; 2. Astonishingly hospitable managers of the hotel: brother Selim and... More

I stayed at the Basileus Hotel while traveling solo to Istanbul for a week. I had an absolutely wonderful stay! The staff were all incredibly helpful with offering recommendations and all take such good care of their guests. They made me feel like a local! Great hotel and even better people.

Booked the hotel after reading reviews on Tripadviser. I got more than that i was expecting. Reached hotel around mid-nigh on a taxi from Airport. "Omar" was waiting for me at the front desk and was welcomed by tea/coffee/water and cookies. I was offered a room of "MY CHOICE" irrelevant to what my booking was. I was in Istanbul just... More

The Basileus was a hotel that I chose based on the TripAdvisor ratings and reviews, and must say I was glad I did. The hotel lived up to all the reviews. The location is great and within walking distance to the Sultanahmet Square, where you can visit the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Basillica Cistern. Equally, the tour buses all stop... More

We had only one night's stay in Istanbul (sadly!) yet were treated like royalty at Basileus Hotel. The friendly welcome through to support with unexpected flight challenges as well as offering general tourist information in a most generous way - were all exceptional as we were offered truly exceptional customer care! And you do not feel at all like a... More

My friends and I had a lovely 3 night stay at Basileus. Salim and his family/colleagues couldn't have done more to help us. They organised taxis, advised us of restaurants and areas to visit, and even called up hotels for us when we were looking for somewhere to spend a day by a pool. Their advice and warm welcome were... The hotel is really well situated, less than 5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and Haggia Sophia, and close to a range of amazing restaurants, shops and bars. It's about 15 minutes walk to the Grand Bazaar and the banks of the Bosphorus. The hotel is comfortable and very clean, and is well equipped with air conditioning and hair... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
