The mercenary attitude of so many of the people I met and the slack security and chaos at the airport....... leaving all that aside.... the hotel is a great little family-run business. I suppose, one of the advantages of being small and family run, is the personal nature of their service. If their service is not good, their whole livelihood... More

Hotel Basileus This is a quaint hotel within walking distance from the main attractions. You may get advice from Salim at the front desk on how to get to the places of interests and dining. He will recommend the appropriate places to visit based on the duration of your stay. You could save some costs on tours. My concerns in... More

Excellent hotel. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Good English. It is located centrally and few minutes from the Blue Mosque. Selim and Omar advised us without any selfish interest. High recommended.

My wife, daughter, and I stayed at the Basileus Hotel for four nights. We'd never been to Istanbul before. I read about the hotel's high marks on TripAdvisor, and took a chance. What a lovely experience we had! Clean, aesthetically pleasing, wonderful breakfasts, and kind helpful staff--the hotel fulfilled all of our expectations! Brothers Selim, Ikrem, and Umar and their... Excellent hotel to stay in!! Selim, Omar, Ekrem and the rest of the team were very hospitable. Anything you need, just ask, and they will try and help. The location was great, most sites were within walking distance. We loved being a minutes walk from Little Ayasofia Masjid, where we could go for regular prayers. What a beautiful, peaceful place... The location, facilities, rooms and food are great but what makes this hotel special is the people. The brothers who run it could not do more to be unobtrusively helpful and welcoming. I was visiting alone but no longer felt I was alone in the city once I'd checked in. Even prior to the stay they were exceptionally helpful in... More

I was to go to Ukraine for family visit and decided to go via Istanbul. It was very economic decision but unfortunately worst things stated happening in Istanbul. First the bomb blast at Ataturk Airport and then the coup problem just one day before our actual visit to Istanbul. No body wanted us to go to Istanbul. I was on... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
