This hotel is really great, 3 minutes walking from the center of Sultanahmet (where the Blue Mosque is located). The service was wonderful: we were received by a very kind staff member, that explaned us where were the attractions and even gave us some nice advice on where to eat. The room was very nice, with 2 single beds, one...

We loved this cozy hotel. It is small and we felt we were living in a home more than in a hotel. There were even home made cake and cookies available for free on a table in the hall on the way to the rooms . There was free hot tea in a tea dispenser on the same table. The...

We stayed here for 2 nights while in Istanbul on a long layover. The hotel is a little difficult to find and we ended up having to give the taxi driver the phone number so he could call and get the location (this happened at another hotel we stayed at, so not uncharacteristic). The hotel is located in a great...

The Basileus Hotel must be the friendliest place in Istanbul. Selim, our host, greeted us at the front door when our taxi dropped us off, and carried our bags into the small but elegant lobby. Our room was modern, clean, and comfortable, and included a lavish Turkish breakfast. The hotel is a block from an interesting mosque called the "Little...

I went to this hotel in a stop over trip to another destination and it has overcame my expectations. It was so cheap that I was afraid of being caught in a trap, not on this hotel. It is really well located, just a few walk from the main touristic points in Istanbul, well served of restaurants near around and...

Wonderful, friendly staff and a great location. They will give you a map and tell you about all the places, if you haven't read up on everything before you arrive. If you don't mind hills, it's walking distance from almost everything: Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar, Basilica Cistern, Blue Mosque, Suleymaniye Mosque, etc. It's at the edge of the tourist area,...

I'm so glad we chose to stay at this hotel. Things I loved about it: 1) Location. This hotel was a 10 minute walk from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. It was right in the heart of things that we wanted to do which made getting around so easy. 2) The Staff. The staff was so accommodating and friendly....

Very strategic position (less than 500m to SultanAhmet central square). Very nice staff, clean conditionned rooms, quite and secure. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. You may find cheaper rooms in the area, but the quality will disapoint. The staff (english speaking) will help you a lot about places to visit and trips to do.

I love this hotel. This was my second visit. I was welcomed with a big hug. I stayed on the second floor near the rear of the hotel. I was not bothered by noise. The room was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the morning buffet. I would come back again!

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
