Worst hotel I stayed in during my 3 months in Europe. I got stuck in the lift twice and the second time with staff who laughed, pushed all the buttons and told me this happens all the time. The stairs were dangerous and impossible with a suitcase. My room smelt like sewerage. The room was too small for two people... More

We were a large group and check-in took exactly 1hour! The man at the reception spent all this time staring at his computer screen, trying to find out which rooms we had, occasionally giving out key cards that didn't work or room numbers that were already given to someone else. Most rooms looked out on a courtyard about one and... More

We booked into the Asur and was told it was closed for renovations and stayed next door at the Erbil which is owned by the same people. Room was disgustingly dirty especially the shower, tried to upgrade but said nothing was available. Upon our return from our trip to Gallipoli we were given an "upgraded room", the only difference was... More

Wow I don't even quite know how to express how revolting the showers in this hotel were. Let me start by saying when you walk into the hotel the lobby and corridors to the rooms smell like toilet water. I kid you not. Proper moldy toilet smell. I was gagging as I walked to my room. The rooms themselves are... More

The hotel has an excellent location, really close to topkapi and several good restaurants. Within comfy walking distance of Galata bridge, agia sofia, grand bazar and blue mosque. Breakfast was great and offeed a lovely view over the Bosporus + Galata. I have seen bigger rooms and bathrooms in my life, but the beds were good, and everything was clean and... More

Visiting Istanbul for a long weekend, this hotel will suit the basic needs. Not very luxury, small rooms and small and quite old bathroom. Breakfast is simple, no other meals available. Location in Istanbul is perfect. Surrounded by very good restaurants that offer good meals with a good balance quality/price. Walking distance to Grand Bazaar, Aya Sophia but also to... More

We stayed here as part of a tour and felt the hotel satisfied our needs. It is in a good location in the centre of the old town. However the fittings and fixtures are tired and the bathroom could be revamped. Breakfast includes standard Turkish fare with a great view of the bay yet is only accessible by stairs. Therefore... I stayed twice at this hotel - on both ends of my tour. I booked extra days, so I stayed 3 nights the first time and two nights at the end of my trip. I lucked out with the first room, I had a street view on the 2nd floor - I think it was room 202. On the return... More

This has become the new name for this hotel in my repertoire. We found our room smelly and stuffy with its only window opening to an internal air shaft, the toilet dirty, the shower mouldy, the food inedible, the service poor. Never again!!!

Helpful staff, who allowed early check-in. The bar, lift and downstairs bathroom are bonuses but the real winner is the location. It's right where you need to be and the tram line makes finding your way or a doddle. Great bars and restaurants are on the doorstep. Rooms are small and nothing flash, and don't expect a view from your... More

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighborhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
