I visited Hotel Buyuk Keban this summer with my family. We arrived late at night, but our two booked rooms were well groomed and clean.
In the morning we were welcomed by a beautiful and well stuffed breakfast buffet. The buffet had everything, also appropriate food if you're travelling with children.
The hotel manager, Merva, was very nice to help us find our way around Istanbul and to teach us about the metro system. She even gave us a map, with all the sights - so we got to see everything, that Istanbul has to offer! The hotel offers a big variety of things, which will make you love the hotel even more such as a free ice machine, nice slippers etc.
All in all a super great stay at Hotel Buyuk Keban with an amazing breakfast buffet and a very helpful staff. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone, who wishes to visit Istanbul, and wants to be located in a very attractive area with many local restaurants and shops (The Old City).

I spent in this hotel about one week, the hotel in general is clean , and they took care of cleaning for rooms and the common area approximately every day , however don't depend too much in sauna and chakozi because I asked about and they keep told me not available today . The rooms are small little bit , about the breakfast there is variety in it so you will find fresh vegetables and fruits , about the venue of the hotel it is in one of the most important area in Istanbul

Dear Ayham, I would like to thank you for your preference on choosing Hotel Buyuk Keban. I remember your problem about the health club. I want to make some corrections about the problem you had. Firstly, I remember you asked it on Tuesday, which health club is closed because the duties of the incharge. Then you asked it on Wednesday and reception said that it was open between 11am to 7 pm. The staff is very intuitive and work hard to ensure your every need is not only met, but exceed. However, you may rest assured that I have well taken the note, corrective measures are taken to do better service and to avoid re-occurance in future. I hope to see you again in our hotel without any problems. Best Regards from Istanbul, Aysegul Guldas Concierge

Nice hotel, clean rooms, nice staff and good central location for many attractions. Much is walkable, but also good to travel by tram. There is also a neat spa where massages can take place. Here we do have gained an unpleasant experience. The hands of the masseur came regularly about body parts in my bikini slip that should not be massaged.

Buyuk Keban Hotel is located in a nice and safe district in walking distance from the tram station that connects with the main attractions of Istanbul. In fact the are only 4 tram stops to Hagia Sofia and Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque. It is also very close, about 4 minutes walk from Valens Aqueduct (Bozdogan Kemeri) and Sehzade Mehmet Mosque.
The hotel is clean, it has basic furniture and comfortable beds, the bathroom is large enough and the staff is helpfull, even if not all of them speak english.
Don't expect something fancy as this is a budget hotel, but it is convenient for its location, it also offers an excellent breakfast and good service.
The only minus points are the small elevator and the view from the rooms on the rear front of the hotel.

We stayed in this hotel for 7 days from 4th June till 11 June.
Very good located hotel near 2 metro's stations and shutter bus nice and helpful staff, very clean,
good breakfast but same for every day very delicious soups.
The first Night they gave us a room in 6th floor very hot with a small window and all pillows and blanket smell bad but the day after we asked for another room because it was our honeymoon and they accepted, changed the room. Although we reserved a standard room they gave us a superior room without any extra charge.
But all the facilities like Turkish bath and spa and hot tub weren't work 😔.

I checked out of the hotel today after a week stay. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. Child friendly hotel.
Breakfast is basic no orange juice, no jam. The bathroom had a shower door missing which lead to the whole floor getting drenched. One of the bedrooms didn't unlock with the card and this problem persisted throughout the stay. I requested the downstairs rooms but was put in the top floor.
Overall this hotel is cheap and cheerful and you get what you pay for.

Dear Majidah, Thank you for your kind comments about our hotel, you stated that you liked the hotel but gave us a low rating anyways, which is hard to understand. Regarding the shower door, as i have personally explained it to you during your stay, Hotel Buyuk Keban bathrooms are custom designed upscale bathrooms. Before your check-in, previous guests that has accommodated in your room broke the glass in that room. And when you place an order for the missing piece as you would expect, it takes time to be delivered. But of course, it is not your concern, but it was explained to you. We could have changed your room, but the hotel was 100% occupied which made it impossible. But i'm deeply sorry for the the inconvenience. Besides that, you have written very kind stuff about our hotel, i would like to thank you for that. I hope you would choose our hotel for your upcoming visit to Istanbul, we would definitely like to see that happen. Kindest Regards from Istanbul, Huseyin Aksoyer

Hotel location was good close to tram. Room was clean and newly renovated but lighting was poor. Stayed for 4 nights.
When booking the hotel we were drawn by the facilities it had to offer such as the gym, jacuzzi, massage etc. Also in the room it said extra long beds, seating area, balcony, toiletries, safe. (the one I booked said this was available) Anyway none of this was there when we checked in. Toiletries consisted of flowing soap in the bathroom, no sitting area, no balcony (the door did open like a window but you couldnt step out of the room) first dissapointment. The safe cost $5 to use no one said anything about a charge for security!! When I queried the room not being as booked on the site the man just ignored me.
As for the other facilities the man on reception told us these were open from 11am to 11pm but everytime we looked nothing was open. Also when this was queried at check out he said "Well it was a holiday" which I did understand but he should have said this when asked prior.
Breakfast was ok, I am not keen on cold scrambled eggs.
I honestly think this hotel could be good if it took care of the little things. I would not stay there again.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for choosing Hotel Buyuk Keban and taking the time for writing a review about it. First of all, I would like to thank you for choosing our hotel, Buyuk Keban, however, I’m deeply disappointed on the comments in your review. But you can be sure that your concerns are noted and will be follow upped personally by myself. Our hotel is chosen amongst the best hotels in Istanbul and we are one of the top sellers in the city and most of our guests leave the hotel with good opinions. However, I guess that was not the case on your stay. I wish you had asked to get in touch with me so that I could have tried to do something to remedy the situation. Regarding the behavior of the staff that you are complaining about, I can’t think of anything but a misunderstanding caused by the language barrier. That being said, I have stated above, you can be sure that this I will be following up on this matter. Unfortunately, it seems that we were not even close to meet your expectations as a 3 Star Budget Hotel. I would like you to know that we are really sorry to hear that. Not only that but also, we have completed an extensive renovation on our hotel in 2014 which gave us a brand new look through out the building. We hope you choose our hotel on your next trip to Istanbul so that we can serve you better and make it up to you. Thank you very much, Kindest Regards from Istanbul, Hotel Manager Huseyin Aksoyer

-The air conditioning didn't work, the temp inside the room was about 26 Celsius and the humid was high , I couldn’t sleep at night because of the high temp. I had to keep the window open the whole night but road noise was annoying.
-I could hear noise of road in the room even in late night and early morning , the road beside hotel are noisy. This was second reason that I couldn’t sleep.
-The signal of wifi in the room was weak.
-No one clean the room in four nights that I was there, they even didn’t empty the garbage bin.
-The room refrigerator didn’t work, it was old and out of order.
-Hotel staff don’t know English and it was a problem, they behave unfriendly too.
-The hotel is on the slope and this slope is problem when you going back to hotel and are tired.

The hotel is located at a good location and had decent sized rooms (though not big) with very small bathrooms. The hotel was renovated in 2012 and nearest tram station is 5 mins walk downslope & 02 stations away from grand bazaar. Mr. Hannan at the front desk assisted us on our arrival with good info. about city and was friendly. Breakfast was good and our stay was comfortable except for the fact that language is a problem with the hotel staff. While checking out the person at the reception was rude, unfriendly, arrogant, abusive and a complete misfit to the service industry. He did not know basic mannerism. We were unable to find a key card for our room and we apologized for the same as it was unintentional but the guy started abusing & not only disgraced us as a customer but also said in english that he prayed to god that our trip goes bad thereon. He was an absolute turn off, who did not know how to behave with customers politely and it was pointless arguing with him thus we left the hotel. This certainly put us off and we will never recommend anyone to stay here coz. of their staff who are impolite and wish bad for their customers. One more thing do not leave your passports at the reception and take them back at time of check in once the hotel has taken the copies.

Dear AngelAbrol, I have read your review in the deepest sadness because we are a hotel that was established more than 40 years ago and have been actively working with online travel agencies and getting booked continuously. This is the first time we received a review in the "Terrible" category in our online review history. As a hotel manager, i, did not had any knowledge regarding the issue you had with our reception staff, i think it would have been more fair if you would come up to me with your problem so that i could have tried to help your problem. On the other hand, you stated an issue with a charge caused by a lost room card, however, there is a clear not behind the room card, it is says that "if a room card is lost, it is subject to a fee", not just in English, Arabic, Russian and Turkish as well. When this kept in mind, i think that, we as hotel have every right to ask for the fee of the card that was lost. Regarding the staff at the reception, i dont think that he would have curse at you, i think that is just a simple misunderstanding completely caused by language barrier. However, when all left aside, we as "Hotel Buyuk Keban", gain completely nothing with your unsatisfactory stay, i wished everything went well and you had a nice in our hotel and left with nice wishes. Unfortunately, as it seems that we could make that happen. To wrap it up, i would like to apologise from you as a hotel manager on behalf of all "Hotel Buyuk Keban" staff. Kindest Regards from Istanbul, Hotel Manager, Huseyin Aksoyer
