Galata | M84 Apart Hotel is located on Mesrutiyet Caddesi, only a few steps from the escalators of Sishane Metro, which connects directly to next stop Taksim Square, the hub of the city. Tunel Square which is at the end of Istiklal Street, the celebrated ‘must be seen’ pedestrian street full of eateries, small shops, bookstores, pubs, art galleries, movies and theatres, and Galata Square where Galata Tower, a landmark of the city is, are again only a couple of minutes walk. Galata region, once built as a Genoese settlement in Byzantine times and was always an integral part of Constantinople and Ottoman Istanbul, is considered as the city’s "Soho" with its bohemian, relaxed, art loving and hip atmosphere.

Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.

stayed on the top floor which made it a touch noisy but you get great views of the Galata tower and you can see down into the harbour as well. The staff were excellent especially Ahmed always a smile and a welcoming word when you enter the foyer which is locked and has to be opened from the inside (someone always on duty) security is excellent. Right outside the front of the building is Shishane metro station and if you use the tunnel you can pop up right on the end of Istiklal St to Taksim. Transport in Istanbul is so easy and cheap, train, bus and ferry don't take a taxi unless you really have to and make sure you know where you are going, have it written down not spoken and agree on a price range. All we wanted for in the apartment was a toaster and possibly a nespresso machine, good showers comfortable beds and a huge centrally heated apartment. snowed for 3 days whilst we were there so the heating was welcome and the views excellent. i did mention the noise, if you are sensitive maybe its not for you, nowhere near as loud as New York with all the honking and sirens but up there. there's a small supermarket 50m away and lots of places to eat or fantastic coffee shops, we used the washing machine twice and on reflection it does need a clothes horse to hang the washing on, i carry an elastic camping line so we were ok.

Stayed here this weekend with a group of friends. We had the three bedroom apartment on the topfloor. Nice balcony on two sides offered a great view on the Galata tower and the Golden Horn. Spacious apartment, good beds and very clean. Every day the beds were made and clean towels provided. Would certainly stay here again!

Below is a summary of my review for my visit to this hotel on May 2018: 1. Another person was accommodated my apartment due to not checking the passport and reservation documents by the hotel reception; it took me 40 minutes to get my reservation because of the refusal of the other person to go out and reception employee was trying to convince me to take an apartment smaller. I refused and insisted on taking a prepaid reservation. 2. The power went out for several times due to poor electrical connections; I have stayed for more than four hours without any lighting and hotel staff did not provide any power source or emergency light to be used for accessing the bathroom. My family was forced to stay in outer area rely on street lighting. 3. When I noticed that there is no proper actions for the hotel staff and the long period “4 hours” to wait for maintenance team, I have called the police and they came after 45 minutes. At that time, the hotel manager and technicians arrive to the site. 4. The maintenance team discovered the major damage of the main power supply and we were lucky of not having fire in the apartment due to several electric flashes. It took a good time to complete the repair and restore the power. 5. I have noticed that there is a major breaker inside the electric panel that was set to be off. I have asked the hotel staff about it and I was informed that this breaker is related to fire system and smoke detection and both system were put in off position due to technical issues. 6. I informed the police about the issues of the fire and smoke detection systems; at this moment, the facility manager start shooting on me to stop me from talking. 7. I have discovered later, that this hotel was operating under the name “Galata Flat” and since it was facing many problems with the government, it was transferred to a new management who do some renovation and change the name to “Galata M84” to get the government approval to operate the facility again. 8. While the facility has excellent furniture and good level of cleaning, but, I totally NOT recommending it for any one due to the security and safety risks that involved in this hotel.
