I stayed at the Big Apple for five days. The biggest thing I have to say is that the staff were so friendly and helpful, they went above and beyond for everything. As a solo traveller especially this is really important. The hotel is clean, and the breakfast is really great with a big cooked spread. They also have a lovely roof terrace looking out across the Bosphorus on the horizon. The location is amazing for sightseeing, it's just a couple of minutes walk to the blue mosque and the hagia Sofia, and for the rest of the city there is a tram stop five minutes walk away which will take you everywhere. The reception staff at the hotel will explain how to get an Istanbul card for the public transport which is very cheap and frequent. Enjoy this place, I would definitely stay there again!

it was a very good experience, warm hospitality, well comunicated, nice breakfast and great place to stay, its sparkling clean and have a good view. We feel like a home. The location was also excellent - just a couple of minutes walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Topkapı palace. The Sultanahmet tram station for tram T1 (which will take you to most places you may wish to visit) is only 5 minutes walk away. There is also a beautiful terrace on the top floor with wonderful views. I would definitely recommending Big Apple Hostel to everyone. Thank you all for a lovely stay! I woul definitely return here :)

Big Apple is a fantastic hostel walking distance to all the best sites. The staff are amazing, they are always helpful and funny and really seems to love what they do. There are organized activities if you like to partake and the upstairs terrace is a great place to meet fellow travelers. Made great friends at this hostel. Highly recommend.

A very bad experience. It's all very very old. They gave us a room on the third floor and it does not have an elevator. One of the sheets had a very big hole in the middle. When we told them, they changed our sheets and gave us another dirty one. We kept insisting and to give us a clean one, they had to discard another three. There is a lot of humidity and it is unhygienic, everything is very left. On the terrace in the breakfast area, the seats were all broken, and the breakfasts were very lacking in variety.
I could go on saying, but I prefer to see a photo.
The only good thing is that it is very well located
Ahhh, and another thing, after having the reservation fully paid, it asked us for another €495, which logically, we contacted the supplying agency, and we did not pay.

This hotel is the most horrible one I did in my life and I travelled a lot !!! It smells like they never open the windows , the glass light are broken and can fall at anytime on you while sleeping, the bathroom is absolutely disgusting and smell so bad you can't breath and on the top of this the beds have bugs we didn't sleep the whole night and change the hotel early in the morning. However they didn't want to refund me the night. This hotel should shut down DON'T GO THERE !!!!

Very good location, but the hostel is not what it seems on the pictures. The room smells bad and there was no light in the bathroom so I didn’t shower for 4 days. I had to buy a 5 meter extension so I could charge my phone and computer. When I asked the manager about the plugs and lights, he told me that we are women and how much do we need.

Serious safety incident
there is no daily cleaning service; I had to ask them to clean my room and to get the towels changed, I stayed there for 6 nights. One day they did not have the breakfast served when it was supposed to be available between 07:30h to 10:00h. The owner was flirting with me which was very annoying and on top of that, the front desk guy went into my room one day, because my friend needed help with the light and this guy tried to kiss her. It is not a safe place to stay if you are a woman and travelling alone.

Firstly, the hotel canceled the booking on booking.com immediately after our arrival, so as not to pay a booking fee. Secondly, the size of the room is not 35 sq.m, but on the strength of 16! Thirdly, the room stinks of sewage. And one more thing: the refrigerator did not cool at all even in the strongest mode; breakfast is very poor, not even coffee!!!; the hotel is very tired, in need of renovation; outside the window is very noisy almost all night; far from metro/tram; wifi is slow.

I did NOT visit Istanbul! The BIG APPLE I reviewed was the BIG APPLE supermarket. It sells largely Hispanic foods and judging from the happy crowds it is the place to be, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. many people purchasing fresh produce, fish, pastries with enough left over to buy a treat for the children. A wonderful place! I hope there's a markert like it in Istanbul and hope you enjoy your travels. I myself have been advised to be very careful about what water I drink. Some street peddlers reuse water bottles, filling them with less than clean water. Also ice cubes in street drinks may be contaminated. If this sounds extremely picky, being sick while on vacation is no fun, no joke. Having had a bout of food poisoning, possibly contracted from eating ice cream from a shop where the vendor scooped out the ice cream into a cone, then, his hands and arms dripping with ice cream, also made change. Gloves like US food vendors are required by law to wear? HA! Is money dirty? I don't know about that; I sure wouldn't leave home without some. But a few hours after eating that ice cream I thought I was going to die!!! Seriously. Have a great trip but be careful to guard your health too. You certainly can't travel far and happily without that!
