Detailed Reviews
I stayed here in February 2020 for 4 nights together with a friend. The staff is very friendly and the hotel is very clean. The hotel is only a 10 minute walk away from the nearest sightseeing places located in the historic part of the city. Even nearer to the hotel there are groceryshops, bars, parks and restaurants. Keeping in mind the little money you pay for your stay, you can't really complain.
Eventhough, I'd like to see some changes. Since the bathroom is really small, the whole bathroom actually is the shower. Everything gets wet, so there's not really a good place to leave your towel and cloths which you obviously want to keep dry. Maybe a few hooks or hanging baskets will be a good addition. There was 1 hook though, but it was very small and broken.
(see picture of toilet, there a small cabinet next so the width is about 1,20 M en the same goes for the depth. The shower is on the right wall, infront of the cabinet)
It also takes a very long time for the bathroom to dry. The water isn't stopped bij a small shower edge or something and theres nothing to wipe the water with, which left us with only one option: Shower in the evenings and leave the window in the bathroom open so it will be dry by the time it's morning. Not idealic at all, considering we where staying here during the winter.
Also we had to share a socket during the night to charge our phones. It would be great if there were more of them.
These are all small 'complaints' so it's not too bad. Especially for the money you pay.
There's one thing left I'd like to warn you for: the sounds. The hotel is very noisy. You can hear other people very well and unfortunatly we had some people staying in the hotel that didn't take this into account. Because of the noisyness, you'll also be able to hear the mosques very loudly in the early mornings, so if you don't want to, bring some earplugs.
Despite of the few negatives, I myself would stay here again and so would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a cheap hotel near the old city centre.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights in November 2020. We booked their best room which was on the top floor with a small balcony. The view is not the best as it looks over a freeway and a trainway but it was nice to have a small balcony to enjoy and the water views were great. The room was nice but a little overcrowded with furniture. Bathroom was ok with plenty of hot water. A nice touch is they include bottled water for free in your in room mini fridge. Also include complimentary self serve tea and kettle. Stairs are a little narrow and no lift. No issues with noise. You can hear the cars on the freeway but not too bad.
Neighborhood is ok. Nothing fancy but we felt safe. A few small restaurants and shops close by. Be aware that to get to the tourist area we recommend checking your map and taking the back way to the blue mosque area. It takes a little longer but is less hilly and passes most of the restaurants and shops in the area.
A nice budget hotel. No major issues to report.

Quiet and exotic clean family business in the central neighborhood. You feel at home. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The rooms are large enough and have every equipment you need. Hot water machine, tea, mini fridge, air conditioner, television, water and soda .. All these are free. Towels change daily and the room is cleaned. It has a beautiful viewing terrace. The sea view is magnificent at sunset. The rooms are comfortable quiet and clean. It is located 10-12 minutes walking distance to the touristic and historical areas. There are many restaurants within walking distance. Very close to public transport. Bus stop 2 minutes, metro 12 minutes, tram 8 minutes walking distance.

Hotel is intimate but everything has been renewed and very clean. Had everything you'd expect from a hotel - Wi-Fi, toiletries, comfortable beds etc, Is about a 15 minute pleasant walk from the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace etc. Staff were excellent, always smiling and happy to help with everything.

Our room at the hotel was very small, but renovated and very cozy and comfortable. The hotel is well located close to the Sultanahmet square where is the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia Museum. From the square you can also catch a transportation to the main tourist attractions of the city. We arrived in Istanbul after midnight so we asked the hotel for shuttle. They had everything arranged for us. The only problem we had was with the language barrier because the guy at the reception didn’t speak English at all.

+1
There are calm hotel in district Fatih, close to center of Istambul and main historical objects. There are many shops, cafe, small park and close to the marble sea. You can enjoy the view or walk along it along the new embankment (including by bike to Galata). The hotel itself is very cozy. Small rooms with refrigerator and kettle, terraces with soms, where you can order breakfast or work with a view of the sea. A special thank you for the design-the paintings and interior items are matched with taste, without pretentiousness!

I really want to give this hotel an excellent review because the proprietor and worker on duty (who were always present in the lobby) were both attentive and professional. As guests, we were greeted warmly, asked how we are doing on a daily basis and offered assistance with anything. That they did! Not far from the hotel within 10-minute walking distance is a Turkish Bath-house that the owner recommended and helped us get a booking that same night. Our first night stay was comfortable, relaxing and the room was immaculately clean which was a major plus- you will find that the entire hotel is super clean. The bathroom and shower are quite small but clean and efficient. Hairdryer and shower supplies provided. The problem had to do with noisy neighbors and the walls of our rooms could not muffle the loud sounds. There was also construction across the road so that added to the lack of sleep at night and in the morning. We wanted to complain to the owner about the noisy neighbor but we did not want to trouble them hoping that the folks would leave the next day or at least get the hint when we banged on the wall for them to be quiet. As for the construction, much of this was done in the morning and we were out before it could bother us. Hopefully, that will end soon. In any case, we stayed 3-nights and would have stayed for longer but we could not stand the noise any longer from the rude neighbors. In spite of this complaint, this is a small, quaint, clean hotel with lovely people and don't let our bad luck with neighbors deter you from staying. This place is a good value and with their service, you can have an excellent experience for a great deal in Istanbul.

This review is based on a recent 4 nights stay in this hotel. It is not a very positive review and will most likely be followed up by a response from the hotel, so it is up to you to consider who you would like to trust. I normally have a large degree of empathy when travelling and staying at hotels all over the world, but this hotel crossed definitely my threshold
I had arranged a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and was provided with details as to where to locate the agent outside the arrival at the airport. Went to the designated “agent” who had a list of customers needing rides to the city. However, my name was not on the list and therefore waited 10-15 to see if perhaps there would an update or another “agent”. Let me add that I had my phone in airplane mode to avoid the ridiculous high tele and roaming charges in Turkey, perhaps a mistake on my part but I was not expecting any problem catching a ride. Should be very simple. When the “agent” never showed up, I arranged my own transport to the hotel, and this is where the “fun” starts. I was immediately met by an angry receptionist who claimed that I had never showed up as agreed which is a lie and continued to claim that I showed no respect and was lying. We “settled” his continuous claims by splitting the fare from the airport to avoid my hotel bill being charged for this.
And now to the room:
How on earth can anyone sane person construct a bathroom floor that tilts away from the drain causing a flood in the bathroom and the door and doorstep become rotten from guests showering. You are “graciously” provided with a swap to clear the water but it takes at least 5 mins to clear the significant amount of water accumulated on the floor. I am curious to know if the bathroom has a watertight membrane under the floor to avoid leaking below. Should the guest really be doing this - just wondering and to the lack of authorisations required to perform this type of work. Seems to be done by an amateur.
There is a bad un-identifiable smell in the room, most likely caused by the regular floods in the bathroom and it is impossible to sleep with the windows open due to noise from the streets. On top of that, the room is so small that is it impossible to move around without hitting the bed, the cupboard or a chair.
The wire for the bedside lamps are stitched together with electrical tapes causing a potential fire hazard Again done by an amateur.
In summary, here is my evaluation of the hotel:
Positive:
Good location within walking distance to major sites and plenty of restaurants
Negative:
Un-reliable shuttle service
Flooding bathroom floor
Poor smell in room
Dangerous electrical wiring which is a fire hazard
Noise from streets and adjoining rooms

Response from Can Serbay Dereci, İşletme Sahibi at Galley Hotel
Responded Mar 1, 2024
We did not care so much about your attacks on our reputation that we are responding to you after 1 year. Our reason for responding was entirely to the future, so that there would be no question marks in our guests' minds, let's write the truth and let them read it. The hotel is not obliged to arrange any tours or transfers for anyone. He does this for charity purposes. It does not have its own transfer vehicle. He has made the payment and reservation for you from his own safe. In this case, you have the responsibility to find the vehicle. The driver waited for you for 4 hours and suffered financial damage. Of course, it is entirely your fault that you cannot find the waiting point and are closed to communication. And of course you have to pay the vehicle fee. I will not respond to your further smears. Because all of them are unrealistic, exaggerated and defamatory comments. Because you blame us even though you are at fault and pay the fee for which you are responsible (discounted payment), you are angry with us and you make these comments. Also, we both know very well that after arranging the transfer, you did not come to the hotel with another transfer vehicle. Instead, you took the cheaper yellow taxi. So it's not a matter of not being able to find the agency, it's all about finding a cheaper vehicle. For this reason, you wanted to avoid responsibility by making excuses for us.
