This was an old fashion hotel located strategically in the old fashion city of Dushanbe. If you walked for just 10-15 minutes you would be at the city center filled with old (not just old fashion) buildings. It was indeed strategic because the hotel was within 20 minutes by car to most of our meeting locations. Going inside the hotel, the lobby was actually a compact one. Not so big seating area was on your left; on your right was the restaurant for you to have breakfast. The choices for breakfast were not that many and they practically stayed the same every morning. What I liked was the prompt and courteous services. The restaurant even had a local waiter who could speak my native language of Indonesia. The other waiters could speak well above average English compared to common Tajik people. We used a meeting room on the second floor for our activities, and the service was also prompt and courteous. In my opinion, service excellence was already ingrained in most people's mind of this hotel. Going up to the room, the corridor was quite wide and the room was quite big. The interior was old fashion, though most of the amenities worked well, including the internet connection. The air condition had an auto operation that was quite precise to the temperature we set. The television also had some kind of auto operation that we did not change channel for some hours, it would turn off by itself. These auto operations were rarity in the hotel I had ever stayed. Overall, I felt comfortable staying in this hotel, especially because of its excellent services. I did not give a five-star because of its old fashion interior and its limited variety of breakfast. Really sorry.

I stayed five days at the hotel and found it to be a lovely oasis from which I could explore Dushanbe and Tajikistan. From the quality of the room and of the food to the incredible friendliness and helpfulness of the hotel staff it has been a wonderful experience. There were days when I felt so happy in the hotel that I did not even feel like going out to sightsee in spite of the city's many attractions.

I had a pretty bad experience with the staff/management at the Serena. I was coming off of a couple of very long days of travel and was exhausted. I also had some work to get done that day so chose to stay in. I'd eaten room service the night before and found it pretty underwhelming and very expensive by local standards. So I did what I often do in that situation, ran across the street and grabbed a pizza to bring up to my room. However, I was stopped by security and brought to the desk manager who told me that due to security concerns and the fact that people had made messes in the past they didn't allow outside food in the rooms. Both seem like bogus excuses because as noted above I ate THEIR food as room service the night before. As for security I offered to open the box and I carried it though the metal detector. I can only assume they know their restaurant can't compete so they freeze out the competition any way they can. Might not be a deal breaker for you but I probably won't be back

Dear FaelanL1, Thank you for taking the time to comment your stay by highlighting your bad experience and identifying the areas where we need further improvement. Your feedback is essential in our effort to improve our service standards. At Dushanbe Serena we do promote local and regional cuisine provided on a full buffet options for Breakfast, lunch and Dinner. We also have full “A la carte” menu and Snacks menu available at the Bar which all cover our guests’ expectations but unfortunately, I do admit, no Pizzas are available. As a standard and policy, we do not accept food from outside, allowing it will jeopardize our Food and beverage operations as well as most of employment in this department. We cannot compare ourselves and compete with local restaurant offered value who ignore all Taxes, safety and other international regulation. Regards
