In every way Sayura House was an excellent start to a visit touring Sri Lanka and has given every other hotel something to live up to. I landed at 4.30am, my husband having arrived the day earlier, and the hotel had arranged a driver to collect me. Even at 5.45 am the night porter greeted me with a warm smile and cool fruit juice. Our room was clean and comfortable and had everything we could have needed, including a kettle for hot drinks. There’s a pretty courtyard to eat in, or to sit in the evening. We had breakfast each day which was well presented and very good. The location is out of town, but it’s easy to get a taxi, tuk tuk, or train. There are local restaurants- try Chola, it’s excellent. The beach is literally two minutes away. Mount Lavinia beach in the other direction is also easily accessible and well worth a visit. The hotel has a roof terrace, a great place to watch the sunset and the ocean, and to read a book. What lifted this from very good to great was the attitude of all of the team, led by the awesome Gamini the manager. Nothing was too much trouble and every interaction was friendly, smiling and welcoming. We’d both highly recommend this hotel.

I arrived very late (1'30am) and still they managed to do the check in and I went to bed straight. The room is good, quiet ac, super bathroom The breakfast was very good and nicely made (a bit less salt and pepper on the omelette would be my recommandation, but very nice apart from that) They even let me stay a bit longer than check out because it was quiet at the time and the room was available (very kind of them)

This calm in the middle of the chaos is a very restive place to stay. I put this at a 'very good' rating due to Gamini, the manager, and Sayura's central location in Colombo 6 (Wellawatte). Gamini was excellent with advice and service on food, places, prices and conversation. The location is almost on the border to next suburb Dehiwela (Colombo ?), south on Galle Road. On the corner of this street and Marine Drive is Sumanadisi bakery, handy as my room did not have a fridge, nor microwave nor television. I can forgo the last, but it was a struggle being self efficient without the first two. Thus, short eats, which are savory buns, rolls, pastries were the norm. Also, on this corner, is easier to get autorickshaws. There is a good mens' clothing shop south on Ramakrishna Road. A baked goods man on an autorickshaw, playing greensleaves, will come along in the morning down the street. Just wave him down to purchase short eats. There are at least 3 bookshops walking north on Galle Road, with the best being Poobalasingham. Banks, Bombay sweet shops, beggars abound on the main Galle Street. This place was restful and secure, but some extras like fridge, microwave or television in the room, for the price paid wouldn't go amiss.

If you are looking for a small and cozy boutique hotel for your stay in Colombo, this is the place. It is a little bit out of the main city center, but this also makes it more quiet and peaceful, and tuk-tuks are easily accessible. There are a few very nice beach seafood restaurants within a ten-minute walk away. Gamini, the owner, is an excellent host and will take very good care of you. The room is small but also clean, nicely designed, and very comfortable. The building is well-maintained with a nice rooftop deck and a lovely courtyard with an open lobby/living area where Gamini served us a delicious light breakfast. My wife and I stayed here for only one night but if we were planning on staying in Colombo for longer, we would definitely have stayed here the entire time. One tip: this hotel does not serve alcohol because of its proximity to a local temple, but you can bring in your own so we would recommend shopping before you arrive or buying some at the airport. There is also a grocery store within walking distance to purchase as well. This is our second time in Colombo and our first was before the recent terrorist attacks. After being here for a few days we are reminded of how welcoming and helpful the Sri Lankan people are and also how safe we feel here. Those incidents appear to be isolated and over, but unfortunately they have had lasting damage to the local economy. We were not hesitant to return and would highly recommend Sri Lanka as it is a beautiful and exotic destination, and truly unlike anywhere else in the world.

Unfortunately we were in Colombo during the Easter terror attacks. The staff were wonderful, very reassuring and helpful, especially Gama the manager. They made us feel so welcomed and really looked after us. The dog called Max was a blessing. The room was fairly basic, but good value and very clean. The decor is lovely and very traditional. Overall, the staff couldn’t have done enough for us, from booking taxis to offering to go to the shops for us. Thank you so much!

Sayura has all what you expected similar to chain hotel. Hotel manager is super nice and helpful. The room is clean and minimalist. I stayed for 2 nights here and everything was perfect. Location is closed to the sea and 2 supermarkets are in walking distance. We don’t have any problem getting in town because Uber is everywhere. Food menu is fairly limited but coffee is nice.

We stayed here 2 nights when we arrived in Colombo. Due to ‘plane delays we arrived very late but were greeted by the friendly staff with a glass of juice. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable...it is of a rustic style and is amongst a lovely tropical garden very well kept. Fantastic breakfasts ... nothing bad to say ...recommend if you like something a bit different

Our stay at Sayura House has been absolutely wonderful. I arrived here for one night, when I first arrived in Colombo, and decided to extend my stay by 3 nights due to the impression that one night left on me. Upon arrival I was met by a smiling Gamini (General Manager) who welcomed me very kindly, and was offered juice and a wet towel after a long flight. I was also greeted by Dee, a sweet girl who checked me in. We also got to know the owner, Mas who is incredibly welcoming and made the experience more so worth while and homely. I had arranged an airport pick up by the hotel, which worked very well and bought me to Colombo with no problem. The breakfast is amazing, and I would highly recommend beginning your morning with this. Every staff member is so friendly and polite, while going totally out of their way to help you with whatever you need, and most understand english. My dad has a severe gluten allergy, which they accomodated with no problem which can be quite difficult for us, usually. The rooftop terrace is a great spot to unwind. The rooms are a comfortable size with modern decor with a traditional twist. The beach is literally 2 mins away, and many amenities are local to the hotel within a 5 min walk. I will definitely be returning in future!

Sayura House was the perfect hotel for us to start our backpacker journey in Sri Lanka. We are two Danish girls, and spent 4 nights there. We were treatet so nicely. The manager and receptionist were very helpful and spoke Well english. They gave us good eating places, and even held my birthday with a cake! They helped us book a safe vagal from Colombo to Kandy, and gave us good and usefull advices and what to experience elsewhere in Sri Lanka. Nice rooftop and a comfortable garden, which is hidden from the outside. So you Can be safe and in peace. The only thing missing was a refrigerator in the room. We would difinetly go back to Sayura and stay for another time!
