Nestled between leafy Park Street and the lakeside temple of Gangarama, one of Colombo's principal Buddhist shrines, Residence is a unique boutique hotel in the heart of Sri Lanka's capital city. Built in the nineteenth century by Sheikh Salehboy Moosajee, it is one of the few remaining buildings of its kind in Colombo. Originally a family home, the house was designed to host receptions and entertainment on a grand scale, with great halls, expansive gardens and stables for visitors' carriage-horses. Today, Residence is a luxurious eleven-suite city hotel owned and managed by Uga Escapes. Its design is glamorous, contemporary and comfortable, but recalls the rich history of the building and the surrounding area. With a large garden, swimming pool, gym, bar and 'great room', Residence offers plenty of spaces to meet, relax or celebrate.

This hotel is wonderful. The rooms are spacious and with all the amenities and comforts needed. The breakfast is a la carte; and is both ample and delicious. The pool is clean and refreshing. The staff are friendly and helpful. I highly recommend.

This hotel is beautiful with great staff, fantastic rooms, and a tasty breakfast. But what good is that if you can't get a decent night's sleep?! I have a very early flight tomorrow and there is a birthday party in full swing with a live band just metres outside my bedroom door

Dear Mr. Kar, Thank you for taking the time to give us a detailed feedback on your stay. Please accept our humble apologies for the disturbances caused due to a private function at the rare bar and kitchen. I do understand that we did not provide the peaceful oasis you were expecting during your stay, but I do hope you would give us another chance to rectify your opinion of us. A member of our staff will contact you shortly in order to discuss this matter with you further. Yet again, please accept our apologies and we hope to see you back at Residence by Uga Escapes Best Regards,

We arrived after a long overnight flight and were made to feel welcome straight away with a nice cool drink. Our luggage was taken to the room and we were able to settle in straight away. The hotel rooms in the courtyard are around the welcoming pool so we were able to drop

We ended our 3 week holiday in Sri Lanka with 2 nights in this very attractive boutique hotel, which has only 10 rooms, so feels very cosy. Our suite (no 8) was spacious, with high ceilings and very well appointed. The welcome we received and the service throughout our stay was

Hi, we had beer and wine in the bar and costs were around the same as UK or a bit less. Eating in the bar was also excellent value-little extras brought to us and beautifully prepared tapas style dishes. We only used this hotel for a stopover on the way up to the cultural triangle so apologies but I can't help re sites-Colombo is not renowned for them! Hope you enjoy your stay. Judy

Should we worry about Dengue fever from mosquitos in Colombo next week?
No cause for concern - but take the usual precautions especially if pregnant

Hi Did you notice any mosquitos?
We didn't actually albeit there is a pool running through the central area. There are repellant machines in the rooms and bar area.

"All rooms are big, so any choice is great"
"Don't choose room 1!"
