I got the suggestion to book the hotel from my colleuegues staioned in Colombo since it was situarted closse to my workplace. Great location near the Mangrove in an VERY quiet resedential area. Stayed for a week and really enjoyed atmosphere, the rooms are great and also the pool .
Lovely well decorated hotel, staff where very accomodating and welcoming. Room was great. The kitchen made me a special meal on arrival and the Sri lankan breakfast was wonderful. The hotel also helped me with transport and itinerary for my visit. Thank you so much.
We picked The Mangrove Hotel as our Wedding venue as it was a quiet quaint little place in the heart of Colombo, with a lovely surrounding of trees and greenery. It was the perfect location for our small intimate outdoorsy event. The staff was really friendly and supportive on our entire idea of a small wedding and was really helpful in every possible way in getting things right for our special day. As we booked the entire venue, we had the pleasure of using all their cool antique pieces and lovely lobby area plus the garden by the pool. It was such a memorable day for us and to our guests. It made our dream come true! On the following two days of our stay at the hotel we were treated very well, we had a hearty breakfast from delicious Sri Lankan cuisine to mouthwatering English breakfast served to our room with a refreshing fruit juice. We had a great time at the hotel and we would like to thank the entire hotel staff who made this possible especially Fanny, the manager and…
Not really a hotel, more of a homestay. Water £1.50 for 500ml, it’s 20p in the local shops and only the first 2 bottles were complimentary unlike all other hotels we stayed at where the water was free. Stained, stale smelling sheets, dirty pillows with old yellowing pillowcases, stained armchair seats, ringmarks and bad scratches on all woodwork, fingerprints on woodwork and four poster bed uprights, thick dust on wardrobe shelves, dirty windows, mirror and shower doors, handprints and fingerprints everywhere. Even footprints on the floor. Automatic bin was a good idea but it’s no longer working and it’s difficult to open! No safety deposit box as advertised. Pool was not inviting as too overlooked by reception, lounge and dining areas and much smaller than expected. Only 2 sunbeds by the pool for all 4 rooms. Our room is not as big or smart as hotel advertising pictures show. Was probably very nice when it was new but now showing a lot of wear and tear. There’s a grubby, worn out rug on the floor and a dirty tea tray cloth with chipped, stained mugs and dirty spoons. The whole room and shower-room needed a jolly good clean and revamp! Mangrove hotel is miles from anywhere, at least 40 mins by tuk-tuk to city at busy times and there are no nearby shops or restaurants. No friendly welcome, no useful information given on check-in, no explanation of anything in the room (we accidentally turned off air-con on first day as it looks like a light switch which we weren’t warned about). Had to stay in the stuffy room all night and wait until the morning to get it switched on! Breakfast was pleasant enough but a lot of flies in the dining room and on the food and no air-conditioning, just a fan. We were told someone would call our room when breakfast was ready but they didn’t call. We came down anyway and breakfast was waiting on the table with the flies all over our glasses of fruit juice! The coffee was awful so we stuck to tea after the first day. On departure on day 3, we handed back the key to check out but there was no acknowledgment, no thank you for staying with us or have a good onward journey, just blank stares to the point it was embarrassing. The person we had previously been dealing with by email called Fanny, had been away sick for our first 2 days. When we eventually met her at checkout she was nowhere near as friendly as we expected. I gather that she has now left working there anyway! Something is not quite right about the management at this hotel and we were quite happy to leave!…
Gorgeous property, friendly staff, quiet neighborhood. Accommodated my 4am arrival. WhatsApp communication. Ask for the 3rd floor suite with the two balcony’s for outdoor seating. Wish I could have staid longer, will be back.
