We stayed here for 1 night before starting to travel around the country. The staff were all really helpful and friendly. The room was very spacious and good AC. No mosquito nets and did get a few bites, but they did provide a plug in repellant

Even though situated in the city area where it is highly crowded and full of traffic. This place turns out to be a miracle in vanishing all those noises. A beautiful setup. Well maintained. You get a feel of old style bungalows vintage mode. Welcomed by an Awesome and sweet host Seema. She is fun to talk with and provided...

It's like a little amazing green colonial architecture paradise in the busy and chaotic city of Colombo. The staff is immensely friendly and helpful The swimming pool very decent and the breakfast very honest, without great inventions and because of that, pretty good It's not in the city center but probably that's a good thing

The tranquil bungalows are tucked away off a busy street. The highlight of the bungalows are the fabulous staff. Seema in particular, with English as her first language was of so much help to us during our three night stay. The rooms are huge, some peeling paint and pretty basic amenities, but clean.

We spent 2 nights at the Bungalow with some friends and had a great time. It's a really lovely boutique hotel. We arrived late in the night and were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The room was a good size for a couple and the breakfast was delicious! I recommend trying the Sri Lankan breakfast with Daal- tasty and...

It is a romantic colonial style mini hotel with high ceiling rooms and simple furnitures. You walk in through the front gate and you instantly love it. The two houses are divided by a little pool and spa. The restaurant serves delicious local cuisine. It is a warm and very personal place with very, very friendly staff. If you would...

My friend and I chose this hotel as a tranquil alternative to the city centre on our last night in Sri Lanka. It's about 20 minutes (without traffic) from the train station on tuk tuk. Tuk tuks are metered in Sri Lanka (ask him to turn it on, it's just by his head, if he doesn't walk away to another)....

Arriving at The Havelock Place Bungalow at 3am after a long haul flight from Australia was like arriving home. Our bags were whisked inside, our beautifully furnished cool room where a hot shower and comfortable bed were waiting for us. So easy! Colombo is a big, hot and dirty city and quite confronting for our young daughter. After a busy...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Governor, Hand-written Deed and Peppercorn The year was 1892 and what was known as "Ceylon" was under British rule. Governor Havelock transferred the title to the land (on which the bungalows are built), by a hand-written deed to the Havelock Building Company on the payment of Rs. 1307/- and a Peppercorn. The present owners purchased the properties in the mid 1980's and lived there. The Havelock Place Bungalow was first opened to guests in December 1999. In the city, yet miles away... If you've ever visited the Bungalow, you would have noticed how discreet we have been about our presence. To the casual passer-by, the Bungalow appears to be nothing more than an old colonial home. Only a plaque with the name 'Havelock Place Bungalow' engraved on it, indicates that we are open to guests. No wonder the Bungalow continues to be Colombo's best kept secret! We are conveniently located so if you are in the mood for a visit to the Museum, Independence Square, or Temples, or would like to go on a shopping spree, you can get to your destination in a matter of minutes. It's a jungle. But definitely not the concrete type... When you enter our gates and walk along the paved pathways, you realize you are in an oasis, away from the bustle of the city. Trees are an intrinsic part of the Havelock Place Bungalow experience. You can enjoy your breakfast while watching our garden come alive with a variety of birds and butterflies, or relax on a bench and gaze at the stars as night approaches. The surrounding foliage lends a quiet charm to every part of the Bungalow. Welcome to the Bungalow! ... more   less
