This is our third visit to the hotel. We come here every two years or so as we have always loved this hotel. Unfortunately we are noticing that the place is in steep decline. The rooms are in dire need of updating and repair, the housekeeping staff often don't properly clean the rooms. We are having to ask for simple things like fresh towels or toilet paper. Requesting these items is often futile or requires 3-4 calls as nobody ever comes. Good luck if you require a porter to assist brining your pl baggage down as they promise to come but never show up. We rationalize our continued visiting this hotel by reasoning that we come for the phenomenal view (and location). The proximity to attractions and things to do is great. However, after this latest visit we just may have to find a new favorite, as its becoming more hassle than happiness here. Very sad as it's a beautiful hotel with a rich history. …
Stayed here on two separate nights. Mix up with booking dates but staff sorted out. Room was fine, ocean view was superb, buffet food pretty good but not outstanding, and pool nice. Can recommend their Sea Cove restaurant on the beach. Fresh as you can get without catching yourself!
We was a big party and some of us had stayed here before and had really impressive view of it. The main areas the bar pool restaurant are still really beautiful but the rooms could do with some TLC .The food however was first class and they really cater for everyone . I thought that although the hotel is near a beach and has its own private beach with the really nice Seafood Cove restaurant that I did not like the mount lavinia area and would have preferred to stay in another part of Sri lanka such as Hukkaduwa.
We didn't stay here but were recommended to have a meal after a swim whilst watching the sunset. The pool is lovely with a view over the sea and city. For £5 each we collected a towel and changed in their pool changing facilities. These are not hotel standard more local leisure centre. Whilst clean there were only 2/4 shower changing cubicles which locked and no complimentary shower gel. There is very limited alternative space and no privacy from men entering their changing room.A male manager also wandered in, supervising the cleaner. When I later asked another manager to shout on entering, they just smiled and said sorry. The buffet was wonderful with a wide variety of sri Lankan food to experiment with, some freshly cooked at stalls and others ready in servers. Staff were friendly and promptly cleared plates etc. The view was beautiful and there were traditional dancers. Overall i would return for the buffet but not the swim. The hotel appeared tired and yet capable of being an iconic place with more attention to detail.…
