Well worth recovering from the flight in this colonial-style hotel on the ocean. Well-appointed rooms, welcoming staff, a marvellous breakfast including Sri Lanka and western food, freshly prepared. Cocktails at sundown on the checkerboard are a delight and reminiscent of bygone times. And look out for the uniformed scarecrow with his sling.
My stay at the Gall Place hotel was excellent. The hotel is very nice and the staff friendly and efficient. Special thanks to Wasantha who organized my trip in Sri Lanka. The restaurants are nice, the food is good and the bars next to the sea very pleasant. I will come back again.
How did I get so lucky to find this spectacular old world charm grand hotel! Simply Phenomenal. I have stayed all over the world in 5 star hotels. Galle Face is definitely one of my favorites. Dramatic Views of the ocean as you sip fresh fruit drinks on the balcony will change everything. Reception is superb- acting exceptionally polite and elegant. One problem- I wished I had tipped more. When I asked the hotel concierge he looked amused. They went above and beyond in everything! Genuinely courteous. The drinks were excellent. Only one thing might be better: The food was a little bit average. Still Highly Recommend!
Excellent Hotel, well situated. On arrival, the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The rooms were a good size, airy and clean. All necessary facilities for a comfortable stay were provided. The hotel has real character about it, especially in the bar area. Breakfast was excellent - good choice with a variety of egg dishes freshly prepared to order. The dining room staff were very friendly and helpful. The bar facilities by the pool were first class with a good selection of seating and sun beds around the pool area. Will have no hesitation in going back to Galle Face.

Great hotel with beautiful historical architecture. Great hotel. Highly recommend. Great Food, authentic Sri Lankan menu as well. One of the best locations in Colombo. Super staff made us feel most welcome
Lovely old ‘colonial’ style hotel on the waterfront. Pleasant attentive staff, and ample restaurants to eat good cooked food. Some rooms need some up-grading or tlc, and the decor is dark in places but overall a great place to stay in Colombo.
We were slightly disappointed by our time at the Galle Face hotel. We found it rather large and impersonal. The suite was reasonably comfortable but a little tired. The main issue was that (unlike everywhere else we stayed in Sri Lanka) the catering staff seemed incapable of producing tasty gluten-free options - e.g. using rice flour, millet - and when a couple of slices of dubious-looking GF bread were produced the waiter put them straight into the general toaster to brown - clearly unaware of the issues of cross-contamination. Fortunately, the old Fort area is a pleasant walk away, along Galle Face Green, and had plenty of good restaurants to choose from.
Old colonial era hotel that trades on its history but the reality is a little disappointing. The interior is all beige and dark wood and feels as though it needs a substantial updating. This is particularly so with the rooms, which are dingy and poorly lit. The food was fine, and we did enjoy the newer bar/restaurant area near the pool.
The hotel and rooms are gorgeous. The service is only okay, and the hotel felt very westernized compared to others I stayed at in Sri Lanka. While no fault of the hotel, the people staying here were quite snotty and rude when encountering others in elevators/common areas. The location on the water is very pretty. There is loud music at night that can be heard in the room. The hotel did give us a warning but when you need to wake up early for a flight and the music goes until late at night, it's not fun.
