The setting is out of this world. The history, the decor and the comfortable and welcome feeling was fabulous. We arrived for one night and had High Tea which was enjoyable. The service impeccable and the attentiveness of the staff were great. The courtyard and swimming pool as lovely. We had a bottom floor executive room. Clean, comfortable and welcoming. The staff couldn’t do enough for us. We eat dinner on the evening which was lovely and breakfast the next morning was fabulous. A special well done to the waiters and the room staff who were so attentive and helpful. This is a great place. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.
There are many positive things to say about the Tintagel. It is located in a quiet but convenient location which is a short tuktuk ride to the center of town. The staff are incredibly friendly and the level of service is impeccable. The hotel’s restaurant has an excellent variety of menus items from which to choose, and everything we ate was really good. The wines are reasonably priced. We opted for a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast every morning. The building is beautiful. The premises are spotless. Where I do find fault with the Tintagel is routine maintenance. Wall paint is chipped in the public areas and the rooms. Window blinds didn’t function due to broken cords. Window shades didn’t function properly due to torn fabric. If it were not for these maintenance issues I would have given the hotel a five star rating. Simply put, this is a diamond in the rough that needs a little more attention.…
Stayed at Paradise Toad Tintagel as part of a one night stopover before touring Sri Lanka. This very appealing historic boutique hotel is in a posh neighborhood of town in a quiet side road. All staff were very friendly and welcoming. With only a handful of rooms (called suites), the service was very individual. Rooms are decorated in a black and white color scheme and wooden flooring. Being a historic building, we had some challenges to find power outlets to charge our devices. First world problems 😅. There’s a lap pool in the in the center of the building and a very limited gym area. Nice bar and restaurant. We enjoyed our breakfast on the terrace of the Tintagel with an a la carte selection of western and Sri Lankan dishes. Overall it was a different experience compared to staying at one of the major chain and much bigger five stars hotels in Colombo. Once in a lifetime experience. We were happy staying there, but would probably stay somewhere else when back in Colombo because the city offers so much variety when it comes to accommodations.…
We stayed here for our last two nights of our Sri Lanka holiday. A small but very well set up hotel. Our room was very large and comfortable. The location in central Colombo is good. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who arranged dinner bookings, tuk tuks and airport transfers. I would recommend having dinner in the hotel as well. An extensive menu, unobtrusive service and good food. We also ate in their sister cafe, a tuk tuk ride away, which I would also recommend. An excellent ending to our holiday.
A very nice hotel situated in the middle of a hustling Colombo City. Staff are very polite and tentative but slightly slow when it comes to ordering drinks or food. Though, while you wait, you can take in the ambiance of the place. Food of a good standard (Would definitely have the Roast roll of lamb) Breakfast very good. All in all a nice place for a stop over.
We went there for high tea with high expectations given the fact that we were going to Tintagel. What a massive disappointment! The place was so run down. We wanted to sit outside for the high tea and we did. Once we were seated we noticed how disgusting the table cloth was. Dirty and just gross. We tried all the other tables and had a similar disgusting view. Even the umbrellas shielding the tables were filthy. I asked one of the staff why they are keeping this place so unclean and he just gave me a blank look. Then we had no choice but to go inside and lo and behold the cutlery was filthy as well. We were just put off by all this and could hardly even enjoy the high tea which was also nothing to talk about honestly. So overall extremely dissatisfied and shocked that a property like Tintagel has been so badly taken care of.…
I spent a night for a business trip. It was really nice. The staff was caring and I am happy I enjoyed the pool... AC, balcony, pool, restaurant. Good overall. Might come again but there are lots of options here
Since we found a small break in our schedule and since it's close by and I've always wanted to visit Tintagel, we went ahead with a 1 night stay 1st things 1st. The hotel is incredibly prepared and takes all possible measures in welcoming guests during the pandemic. Temp check by the security, Staff has their masks on at all times, sanitizer available and the place looked spotless The rooms are spacious and they are equipped with antique furniture that adds to the grandeur of the venue. The art collection at Tintagel is 2nd to none and I think they are the largest collection at a single site. Staff is incredible and friendly. Whenever my 3-year old had a request, they were very happy to accommodate with a happy face. The food at Tintagel is AMAZING. We ad dinner and breakfast and everything we had was prepared to perfection. They tasted so good Overall if you know the story behind the mansion and if you have the time, I would certainly recommend them.…
Previously home to three main political leaders of the island, Paradise Road Tintagel Colombo is a hotel full of history and colonial charm. Located in an elite neighbourhood, in close proximity to many embassies and leading places of business, this is mostly preferred by corporate travelers. The hotel offers boutique-style rooms with complimentary Wi-Fi and cable TV. It also offers a steam room, fitness room, pool, alfresco restaurant and massages by appointment.
I can see why one of the other guests called it a Mini Raffles Hotel. The colonial building and the formal interiors evoke a similar vibe. But its much bolder. The living room/lobby is anchored by a life-size wooden horse from Jafna. An amazing piece of artwork. The contemporary paintings on the walls are intelligently integrated into the old world decor. The leather bound books inside the lovingly curated library are wonderful. A rare selection of books - from Forbidden Colors (a Japanese love story) to coffee table books on flamboyant Sri Lankan ballerinas. These are rare personal books of the owner and his willingness to share it with his guests is touching. I had lunch, dinner and breakfast in the hotel's Italian garden. The best was dinner - with the flicking candle lights and classical music. The Sri Lankan crab was good and service was smooth and efficient. It felt like staying at an old friend's home. A home where the staff look after you like a family member or a cherished friend of the owner. My zipper on my bag broke when I was checking out and the staff tried over 20min to fix it with gusto. Tropical Linen a gorgeous little store is next door. Very worth visiting. The other Paradise Road stores are a 10min tun-tuk ride away. DO NOT WALK. Its hot and sticky. Will definitely return for another stay.…
