We stayed in two different Ger Camps in the Gobi desert in early September both through [--]. We flew on an early flight from Ulaanbator to Dalanzagad and stopped off at Juulchin Gobi camp for breakfast. We then drove with our guide and driver for about 200km through the Mongolian Steppe and Gobi (amazing!) to the Juulchin Gobi 2 camp near to the Khongoryn els sand dunes. The camp was fabulous. Great ger tent with a stove/fire in the middle. Very roomy and warm with electricity on a generator until 10pm. Shared bathrooms, spotless, hot water, western style toilets. Great meals (too much food) and drinks available to purchase. Tons of stars at night and very comfortable. The sand dunes are wonderful (800m high and 20km wide). We climed up many, very high and hit a sandstorm at the top! Only 3 of us on the dunes. Visited a local nomad family in their ger tent an had tea with them. Paid for a camel ride and had a lot of fun. Next day visited a nother local family and tried dried yoghurt (hmm!) and home made vodka! Visited a local town and the cemetry of the dinosaurs and headed back to Juulchin Gobi 1 camp. A much more touristy modern camp with blue, pink or green interiors!! No generator nor stars but a great experience all the same. Visited and amazing valley of the Yol with a glacier that never melts...only when we got there it was a river and had melted!! Saw an amazing sunset and had a very comfortable night in our pink ger tent!! No mobile reception so totally removed until you get to the airport again.
We really recommend this trip to all outdoor and desert lovers. A wonderful insight into Mongolian life!

Well, it's a ger camp, not a five star chain hotel. We liked it. Our ger was ger-ish. The food was good but not gourmet - which is pretty impressive when you think you are out in the Gobi. The staff were helpful and kept the shared bathroom facility clean. One of the staff went out of her way to call and confirm our flight for us, which was a good thing because it had changed to a departure several hours earlier. Most of the staff had no English.
We stayed at the Juulchin Gobi 1 Ger Camp near Yol Am, not by the Khongor Sand dunes.

This ger camp is located near Dalanzadgad, Mongolia. The camp was apparently built by the Soviets, and it may not have had any maintenance since they left. The gers and lavatory building are OK, but the showers were horrible. There was almost no water pressure available. Food quality has a lot of opportunity for improvement.

My suggestion is to find a nicer ger camp in the area. We drove by Three Camels Ger Camp, and it looked much nicer.

This was our best ger camp. Set in a pristine area of the national Park the Ger was spacious and Clean. The staff were friendly and continually cleaned the amenities. The meals were excellent and the Buzz cooking class was fun.

A lovely Ger Camp located in the Terelj National Park. Incredible staff with exceptional food and 5-star cleanliness. What made this stay so amazing was not only the lovely landscape, but the fabulous staff. This particular camp is run by women and they take great pride in caring for their guests.
