I booked a place in an 8 bed dorm at Lucky Backpackers. Got put in a 16 bed dorm with only creepy old men. One got up and walked around naked. The room stank of sweat and had no ventilation. The two fans ran all night and were as loud as aeroplanes and woke me up many times by blowing cool air on me. The staff are not helpful at all and sit around playing games all day. Breakfast is very small and they manage to make eggs on toast taste bad. Bathrooms grotty and most shower cubicles do not have hooks or racks to put towels or clothes. Beds very uncomfortable. Vibe really creepy... I moved to another hostel around the block for the same price, much better rooms, very clean, staff helpful and breakfast twice as big and still free. Lucky Backpackers is your last resort.

I had mixed reservations about this place due to the reviews but many other hostels in Vientiane had reviews where guests had had things stolen whereas this one did not. However, I had only minor problems with the place and, as I didn’t really leave due to arriving late in the day on a bus from Vang Vieng, it wasn’t too bad. The few problems I had were: - the metal lockers under the beds. Even when padlocking them shut, the doors can be pulled open just enough to slip an arm in. Plus, if someone were to pull the bunk bed away from the wall, they could access the locker through the back as it wasn’t covered. It still gets five stars as even though the lockers were inadequate it didn’t affect me. Had I paid more money, I would have expected better.

Comfortable stay for the 2 nights we spent here. Quick and easy checkin, and a clean double room with private bathroom. A/C, fan and T.V with some English channels also included in the room. Water from the shower and sink can get very hot- although this is much appreciated compared to many places in South East Asia. No external window in our room, just one onto a corridor, however the glass was frosted for privacy and did not let in much noise so not a problem for us. Nice, but basic breakfast included, making this place better value than some other rooms in the area at similar prices. Staff are very friendly and welcoming, which compensates for some language barriers that may occur. Internet was temperamental in our room, but seemed fairly reliable in the lobby.

We thankfully were taken I to this hostel after another hostel had messed up our booking we were so glad to find a place and the lady was very nice even though she didn't speak too much English. This place also included breakfast and they accommodated us to choose what we wanted. So we got two boiled eggs and two bananas. The beds were comfy plenty of room to store bags underneath and bathrooms were clean and had a good stock of toilet paper

We booked a bus from Vientiane to Pakse with the woman at Reception. The schedule said, pick-up at 9am, depart at 10am, and arrive at 7pm (1900h). We requested to sit in the front on the Right Side due to car sickness. She appeared to call and confirm our seat location with the company. We also clarified with her we wanted the Chad Pa Song Bus, not the local bus. She also reaffirmed this requirement. After being picked up along with the rest of the passengers the driver sat for about 10 minutes calling and texting someone around 9:50am making all of think we were not sure if he knew where he was going. Needless to say, we arrived at the bus station at 10:16am. He had to honk to stop the bus from leaving without us. This bus turned out to be a local bus where we sat in the back with the cargo because it doubles as a Shipping Company. We stopped frequently for vendors to board and offer snacks along with loading/unloading empty Jerry Cans and Rolled Tubings/Hoses. We stopped for lunch after 5 hours of traveling, which is usually earlier with other companies. The driver even attempted to let us off an hour before as if he did not want to take us to our destination. In the end, we arrived in Pakse at 3am the next morning, an entire 8 Hours after the published schedule in Lucky Backpackers. I will NOT be back.
