The title of my review is the perfect definition of this place: a beautiful exterior that has a very disappointing interior. First let me tell you that the bed is extremely comfy and that the people are so extremely nice and helpful but… that is it. The beautiful bones of the building are let down by dark rooms, hospital style corridors, plastic flowers arrangements and “heritage” furniture that should go!! The Art Deco bathroom is certainly attractive but could become a much more pampering room. I love heritage hotels (this time I have stopped at Metropole in Hanoi and Raffles in Phnom Penh) but these should be updated with 21st century comforts while still keeping the feeling of being in the Colonial lifestyle. Hit and miss really!

This was our third stay at the Settha Palace over the past 20 years . Beautifully restored to its former colonial grandeur and impeccably maintained by its owner Billy Theodas, it is in our opinion the best place to stay in Vientiane. The ambience evokes the iconic colonial hotels of Southeast Asia ( you expect Somerset Maugham to walk in at any moment); the rooms are tastefully decorated with modern amenities; and the staff are gracious and keen to be of service. We enjoyed breakfasts by the pool and dinners at La Belle Epoque where we spent time chatting with the owner who was visiting from Singapore. Highly recommend.

This is a lovely hotel full of character with helpful staff. Men at breakfast was particularly attentive when he noticed that we always had extra coffee 😂 . The pool was lovely and chilled . It is within walking distance of everything we wanted to see

Unfortunately. it's a 4 star it has only the location is special, and when you spend 300 euros for a room the frame is not enough: the breakfast, pillows and child care guests leave quite a bit to wish, in August it seems like a ghost hotel unlike other places we frequent which are still kept alive despite the few presences. Look for better.

This colonial-style hotel is an oasis of calm amid the downtown bustle of the Laotian capital, and is within easy walking distance of numerous restaurants. There's a sheltered pool that becomes an essential list around 4.30pm, and breakfast that's perfectly adequate. Nice, too, to have both a bath and a shower.

The staff are some of the most attentive and thoughtful I've ever encountered, they left breakfast late for me the morning after a midnight check in, they anticipated problems and provided solutions, and during some scheduling issues, tried to find solutions with their connections in the community. The facilities are a little out of date, and could use better mosquito management, especially on the first floor. Easy walk to tourist spots and a grocery store across the street.

Catastrophic breakfast, neither fresh juices, nor fresh baked goods (everything tasted like the day before). The egg dishes also only in limited selection. Just the cheap paper-served ones are a cheek for a 5 star hotel. We have rarely had such a bad breakfast even in 4 star houses. The staff is striving but speaks very poor English in some cases. The rooms very clean but highly recommended rooms not to take to the street. The pool area is appealing, but here too we had to request the pool service (ask at reception to be able to get drinks there). Only the colonial style of the house and the history is appealing . One of the nightlife districts is within walking distance. This hotel is really not recommended for its price.

Spend 4 nights at this gorgeous hotel. So much character and well maintained. It is the personnel service of all the staff that I rate it 5 stars. Meevana and Thomas L went out of their way with patience in helping me book my ongoing train tickets to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. Nothing was too difficult for them. Together with Saylonoid the GM and Poi the new receptionist the team were outstanding. The breakfast ladies would always greet you with their warm smiles. The breakfast buffet was lovely each day. The turndown service each evening was lovely as were the smiling and friendly housekeepers. Totally recommend this boutique hotel with a great location in Vientiane. 8 minute pleasant walk to the centre of downtown cafes/restaurants and tourist sights nearby.

Just spent three nights here on the first leg of our tour of Laos. Immediately upon check in we were told that we were to receive a complementary room upgrade and wow what room it was. That day was also my partners birthday and whilst nothing was mentioned to the staff, at dinner that evening the table was strewn with rose petals and the chef made a surprise birthday cake, it was an absolutely wonderful evening. Throughout the whole stay the staff without exception were marvelous and nothing was too much trouble. We would highly recommend this place as THE only place to stay when in Vientiane. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so wonderful. A special thanks goes to Rachel, Anthony x 2, Thomas and last but not least, Khong.

This has been the best hotel during our journey through Laos , Cambodia and Vietnam .
Since you enter the hall you feel as if you stepped back to the ancient colonial past : everything reminds you the old times . The hotel is charming, elegant , furnished with tastefully pieces and furniture The atmosphere is very quiet and relaxing and the staff lovely . We had a standard room with the same colonial style of the hotel : very comfortable bed , remarkable furniture . The swimming pool was a nice relief form the heat of the day . Breakfast was excellent , as it was dinner .
Probably we won’t return to Vientiane in the near future but if if we do we will choose Setha palace for our staying and we strongly recommend it.

The restaurant has been re-branded as Belle Epoque Brasserie and the menu prices adjusted to be more affordable with even better quality food because of our new Chef. We look forward to serving you soon. Bon appetit.
Yes, certainly. If one of the spa rooms are available, you can use the shower facility in there. There are also shower facilities in the swimming pool changing room.
I was also there recently and experienced the staff talking with guests at the bar (myself). I think this is a great touch and should be encouraged.keep it up Settha Management
Warm greetings everyone! For some unknown reasons there tends to be more mosquitoes during the cool & dry months in Laos. We realize this is definitely is a concern for guests and have consistent measures in place to reduce the population of mosquitoes. We are now testing a mosquito catching product that has proved to be very effective and we intend to install a good number of these catchers around the Settha Palace Hotel because they are a completely zero chemical solution to eliminating mosquitoes in the environment around you.
We hope you have a very enjoyable trip to Laos.
There are more places to choose from in the Vientiane area.
