I stayed in this hotel last Nov. 2019 - 4 days and 3 nights. The hotel is located in a quiet street but easily accessible to the night market and the tourist street where restaurants and cafes are located. The interiors are tastefully designed with five-star amenities which include a big sized bath room with hot and cold running water. The cafe in the lobby is beautiful and with attentive staff that sees to it that your breakfast is okay. A matre'd goes around to talk with the guests to see to it that their needs are well provided for. There is a smoking area at the ground floor and at the rooftop pool. Wifi is available throughout the building. A few steps away is a street that has a series of small bars and restaurants that serve local Laotian food, Tuk tuks are available although I find the rates expensive. It is better to walk or hail a motorbike and negotiate with the rider.

Daer Teodoro, Sabaidee from sunny Vientiane, We are quite impressed to receive your review almost 4 months after your stay. this is not usual and we would like to thank you for it. You still remember perfectly our amenities and other details who make our hotel unique in Vientiane. Talking about the Tuk Tuk, its always a sensitive issue as its nowadays only used by foreigners and slightly over priced. I guess its part of the experience of Vientiane. But we try as much as we can to recommend our guest to use Taxi instead, same price and much safer as well. Thanks again for remembering us and we look forward to welcome you again soon Best regards Franck

I've stayed in Vientiane several times, always at the same hotel. This time, the price of the former hotel was exorbitant, so I gave the Lao Poet a chance - I was not disappointed! The hotel is conveniently located to many small shops and restaurants of all kinds. You're also within a 5-10 min walk to the riverside. The hotel room was open and inviting with a modern polished concrete combined with classic Lao charm. The room was large with a nice open bathroom and shower. I particularly like the look of the concrete walls, floor and ceiling. It gave it a modern feel, but again with nice, comfy touches. The room felt and looked clean. The mattress and pillow were very comfortable to me as well. The rooftop boasts a small bar, seating area and infinity pool overlooking the city that was never crowded. The staff at breakfast were very accommodating providing a range of options that were made to order. The hotel is not far from the airport either and the wifi signal was strong the entire stay. As a business traveler, I either look for a hotel with a gym or one that has room to use my TRX travel straps, while they didn't have a gym, I had more than enough room to get in a solid workout in the room. The hotel is also attempting to be more environmentally friendly so they give glass bottled mineral water rather than plastic - kudos on that. Finally, if you rent a motorbike or car, they have a small underground parking that was very convenient. I would absolutely stay here again. My one and only complaint was the rooster outside the hotel. My room faced a small home with a couple roosters. Due to jet lag, I was up by 6:30am anyway, but if you intend on sleeping later, I'd ask for a room on the other side.

A true originality already as you go up the majestic staircase from the street (there is also an elevator!), with a modern jungle space for breakfast on your left and an Indochina-discovery-spirit reception atmosphere where excellent FRENCH and English are spoken. Spacious rooms are exquisitely decorated in dark saturated tones (a little more light would be appreciated though), the bathroom is visible through an inside window, making you feel completely isolated from the street. Objects gathered all over the (Asian) world by the owner's wife (or is she the owner?) in just the right amount and style give this place a special feel that one only want to extend. Breakfast is gorgeous, served at the table by a wonderful elderly lady who lived in Montpellier. The only problem was the 'loss' of two small items in the left luggage. The swimming pool is a delight at sunset with a view over the roofs and temples of the old city (forget it at other times, as there are no umbrellas). The central location and free parking add to the completeness of the service for this one-year old hotel.

Dear Veronique, Sabaidee from the Lao Poet hotel, We are glad you enjoyed our truly unique design and concept. We are aiming to be the only urban retreat in the heart of Vientiane. And you are right, most of the decoration are items from the private collection of Mme Lampoune, our owner. Thanks a lot for the very kind review and we are looking forward to welcome you again soon Best regards Franck and the Lao Poet team

My weekend getaway at the Lao Poet Hotel was perfect! I appreciate that the staff accommodated my check-in request (a bowl of a fruit I can't get at home but know they have in Laos!), and the welcome drink was very tasty. The room itself was comfortable -- the bed was great, the shower had good water pressure/temperature, and the soundproofing was good enough that I, a light sleeper, had no trouble dozing off. The hotel is situated conveniently near a good selection of restaurants and cafes, and we were within walking distance of most tourist sites. Enjoying the sunset on the roof was spectacular, too. If I'm ever in Laos again, I absolutely won't hesitate to book a second stay at the Lao Poet.

I've stayed at The Poet Lao hotel just for one night, however I have to say, in 30 years of travel, and having stayed at some of the most famous hotels in the world, I loved this hotel most of all. As a new hotel, only a number of months old, I found a great deal to stay, and I have not stopped smiling since i arrived. The room is absolutely beautiful - modern design, a mix of well crafted dark wood furniture, colourful and luxurious bedding, and magnificent lighting that makes the room extremely cool, sophisticated and cosy. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The included breakfast is a delicious and nutritious start to my day (regardless of what it actually is I'm going to do today - 🤔) and the swimming pool has remarkable sunkissed views over the rooftops of Vientiane. You could not choose a nicer place to stay that the Poet Lao. I may try the spa today too - so many treatments to choose from! 🙌🙌🙌 Love it. 5/5!!!

The design of this hotel is unique for Vientiane. The lobby, restaurant, and guest rooms are quite large and airy, and the concrete floors/ceilings and the use of cool colors (mostly green) give the space a very pleasant, relaxing feel. The roof bar and pool are great. The entire staff could not be more friendly and helpful, from the front desk to housekeeping to the very nice woman who manages the dining room at breakfast. This property is new, but it is already on pace to be one of the top hotels in Laos.

The property is super cute and decorated very nicely throughout. The room we had was huge with more than enough space. The bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed. The breakfast provided was adequate and the staff at the front desk and breakfast staff were friendly and nice. A couple of suggestions to improve the property and make it 5 stars however would be:
1. Add a few more floor lamps or ceiling lamps in the room. Even with all of the lamps on in the room it was still pretty dimly lit.
2. Reconsider a new shower/tub setup. It was a monstrous step from the floor into the tub which was tricky when everything was wet. The tub/shower combo did not have a door or curtain on it which meant that unless you took a bath you would get the bathroom very wet, there was no way around it.
3. Have the bar staff working the pool occasionally go and take orders from customers and periodically check on them. I had to find them to get a menu, place an order, order another drink, and pay my bill. I would think that sales would only be increased by having staff occasionally check on customers. The upstairs bar wasn't busy and only about 8-10 people at the pool.
All in all the property was nice and I would consider staying here again but with just a few small changes this could be a great instead of a good property.

Dear Chicken Lips, Sabaidee from the Lao Poet hotel, Thanks a lot for your very positive review and detailed comments. Its only with a constant relationship with our kind customers that we will be able to improve our guest satisfaction. We already had such feedback about our room lighting and we do now offer extra lamps upon request at the reception. Unfortunately, the lack of service around our infinity pool, which is our main selling point shouldn't be happening, and I'm very glad you are mentioning about it. I'm going to look personally after our pool service until we have trained the team accordingly. The last point is about our bathroom design, and we are working with our designer in a long term solution thanks again for your very constructive feedback and please contact us before planing to come back to Vientiane Best regards Franck and the Lao Poet team

We stayed just one night on our way to Luang Prabang. The room was very comfortable if slightly bizarrely decorated. We had a very good breakfast before catching the (excellent) fast train to Luang Prabang. So the hotel is a very convenient stop off. The manager Robert was very helpful in printing off a map of Luang Prabang and recommended some sights and restaurants which turned out to be good advice.

shop around for rates. I found that the on line rates shortly before we arrived were much less than I paid a few weeks earlier on Booking.com.

Only fly in the ointment for this hotel is that there is a large building site right next door and crashing and banging started at 600 AM on Sunday morning beside our room.

Vientiane could be hot and rough, so you may need a cool place. Lao Poet is one that offers minimalistic, but not cold styled rooms, solid breakfast, friendly and well-organized service plus a small pool on the roof with a great view over the city. It’s a joy to jump into the clear fresh water after walking the city. Additionally, they serve good drinks and food on the roof top.

The hotel is located in a quiet side street and so central that you may visit all the sights and restaurants by foot. The airport is just 15 minutes by car (10 USD).
