I arranged a conference in phnom penh during a week at sokha Hotel. We were a group of 11 persons staying at the hotel and had conference meetings with approximately 30-40 participants each day. The conference premises were excellent as well as the service and support from the staff. The hotel rooms were large and comfortable. The breakfast and lunch buffets were OK. Of course this is an expensive hotel but I think it was well spent money.

Stayed there for 14 nights for mandatory quarantine . Was charged 30.00 a day for 3 meals a day was the worst food I have ever had in any 5 star hotel .it was cold tasteless and late Like they say never let a pandemic go the waste this hotel took it to heart . The hotel made it mandatory had to pay 30.00 a day for there meals .14 night with 3 bad meals a day and two covid test 2.100 USD .the only good part was the rooms were very nice and the staff worked hard during these bad times .

I have stayed 2 weeks for quarantine, High prices and very low service, food is terrible, reception is very unresponsive, if you call a few times they stop answering the calls, even if there is an emergency you can not reach the reception, i had to call friend outside who called hotel. Cleaning also not good, i called room service and i had to show the where is the trash one by one, else they just swipe the center of the room and that's it.

POSITIVE POINTS • The Tonle Sap room is big and pleasant, with large windows. The view on the river is stunning and provide a feeling of huge space; • The room is equipped with a kitchen (induction cooker, microwave and a large fridge); • Windows can be open so fresh air can circulate; • There are no mosquitoes (we stayed at the 18th floor); • It is possible to get fresh fruits in quantities (delivered from outside - not the one from the hotel); • Temperature of the room is good (not hot not cold) although it cannot be adjusted; • The hotel provides enough drinking bottled water on a daily basis. NEGATIVE POINTS • Communication and service are extremely mediocre. The management and staff are not responsive at all and not willing to provide any service… (may be because we have paid in advance so there is no need to make any effort???). I.e., we had to call the reception 7 times for someone to come to unlock our window. No one answered to our mails when we requested for extra plates and cutlery… the waiting time for someone to pick up phone at the reception, restaurant or room service is long… if they pick up your call…; • Food delivered is not worth the price. It’s not good at all (oily, salty and sugary) and the extra menu is overpriced and not appealing. We tried to get bread from outside, but the management told us it was not allowed. Instead they offered “mini baguettes”, consisting of two very small pieces of bread with not taste and overpriced; • The internet connection is poor and unstable so be careful in case you have to work, or if your kids needs to connect to online lessons; • There is sensitivity and effort to accommodate families with young kids (Kids menu is poor); • While Sokha is a non-smoking place, we could sometimes smell cigarettes, may be this was coming through the air con system which is not individual to each and every room. COMMENTS • While our stay was “acceptable”, it is very unpleasant to be treated as the “cash cow”, not as customer, with non-sense and insensitivity to people (including children) facing a special situation like quarantine; • Food or ingredients from outside the hotel are not allowed so that a very lucrative food business can go on. I am not sure that the argument pointing out that food from outside could spread the virus has been scientifically proved; • The management and staff of the hotel should be train properly to better communicate and provide service, particularly in a situation of crisis; • This hostile general attitude may affect the image of tourism industry in Cambodia; • Improvement could be made through an independent evaluation/investigation to point out incoherence as well as denounce deliberate institutionalized racket.

Overall a good experience, for a quarantine hotel, they did the best they could in most aspects - Checkin&out was well controlled and organised, fairly seamless, geared for volume arrivals as we came on a bus... The staff was very nice in general, ask fir a higher floor and river view, no problem. Room was spacious and nice amenities, big TV, comfy couch and big king bed. The food was decent enough, had the opportunity to upgrade from plastic wrapped quarantine food to a plated special menu at a higher price...the order takers in general spoke good english and same lady in the evening knew my preferences for veggies, no starch. Nicely done and appreciated. Only two issues that merit mentioning as it relates more to the attitude of the management. 1st challenge - Rented a spinning bike at USD200 per week. i did receive a small discount from the Spa which is outsourced, but the management did not seem to think this was extortion, i begged to differ and the answer was "its out if our hands" wrong answer sunshine! 2nd challenge -communication on quarantine release was not clear, called to enquire on an approximate time that Covid test would be coming back, staff answered the phone with "Ni Hao" assuming i was a Chinese guest perhaps? dunno but after trying to ascertain the quarantined info, she hung up on me, not once but twice...called back a third time, phone rang out...sent a text to one of the managers who graciously offered his number earlier in the week if i had any issues, response back was..."we are not the shangri-la or a rosewood" ya, an overstatement of the obvious but disappointed in this answer to say the least. He called me and instead of apologising and telling me he would look into it, tried to justify the behaviour...again disappointed... as far as being quarantined, they did a nice job, sad to see one of the managers let them down on the last day... the good ending to the story was 10 minutes after the call, the front office called with news of covid negative test and ask me to come down to check out, promptly came up to collect the bags, smooth billing, arranged a car to take me to my post quarantine hotel.

You must beware if you are assigned to be quarantined at Sokha Hotel, do prepare to stay for more than 14 days. The hotel will have a nice story so that you need o stay one more night at your own expenses. Though is 5 Star, food is pathetic small portion, can't even feed a children with $10 per meal. Never have fruits or salads accompanied for meals, expect breakfast. I have to pay $5.XX for a beer that cost $0.50 outside, is a joke. Room service just basic sweeping of floor, never clean the toilet for 14 days. Awful experience.

Check in and quarantine here for 14 days upon arrival and requirements from local government. Every single meal I ordered during the isolated period cost me 10 USD without provided any juice or soft drink and the meal come in the small portion, yet not tasty at all. Side order for a can of Coke will cost me 4 USD, such a big joke. Moreover, there is no other choice but to let them earning our money in this undecent way as they are restricted from outside food whereby Food Panda or Grab Food are prohibited to send any order into hotel area. Literally, A big shame for earning the guest’s money in this way. Although it claimed it is rated as 5 star hotel but don't you ever expect for any star service during this 14 days of quarantine. In normal circumstances, yes! I do agree the food and drink order in 5 star hotel it is reasonable to cost us that much of money but now I feel I am being foolish in such a helpless situation. All these are tarnishing the best reputation of Cambodia as I am here for many times before and everything is divine before I experienced all these. The conclusion is no room service, no tip top facilities but paying unreasonable price to keep myself alive during these 14 days. Totally not substantial at all and everything here not worthy. To anyone who going to quarantine themselves at this hotel, I wished them best of luck.

There are not many food choices at this hotel and it is expensive, the hotel service is very bad, especially the service in the hotel restaurant, the employee service is very bad, rude and impolite, also the customer service is as bad as the service in restaurant, when they can't answer your questions, they will impolitely turn off the phone without answer, or say bad words in khmer language...

Stayed here for 14 days in a Large room with beautiful view of Mekong and Tonlesap! Wi-Fi is not so good and it is not stable. I understand we can not expect proper room service during this time. I really appreciate the Hotel manager for setting up great menu for quarantining customers! It is so inhuman to provide such meals for a vegetarian customer when we aren't allowed to order from outside! No vegetarian option at all. 99% items in menu are Chinese and Khmer when most of the quarantining customers are westerners ! Before setting menu, Hotel Manager must look in to psychological factors of those who are staying for 14 days inside the room. Meals must be combined with some sweets and fruits. There must be toast for breakfast. We stayed in hotel by paying the amount which you fixed. It is so difficult to eat all times food cooked in soya sauce! Hope Hotel manager understands the value of a customer. It is difficult to satisfy all but when it comes to service there is always chance to provide best.
