Very disorganized place. People are changing swapping beds and the staff don’t help. They lose key for luggage room with my bag in that I leave in to wait for the bus take 10 mins to look then Can’t find my passport I surrender for deposit when I want to leave quickly. The staff are making me stressful every time I communicate with them either by incompetence or bad communication or slow to serve. Not in the center. Not clean.

I didn't enjoy my stay here. The staff weren't very welcoming or engaging. They actually seemed bored, and to ask for anything was almost like it was chore for them. The amount of smoke and smell around the bar and restaurant area made me not want to eat and drink in the restaurant. The hostel wasn't clean - Chair cushions, bathrooms, floors weren't appealing or clean. It was quiet while I was there so I dont understand why it wasn't clean. The staff didn't seem motivated to do anything and the management must be none existent is all I can reason with. There's a nice local community nearby, and it was close to the bus which I arrived on. There is a couple nice pagodas close by which were walkable. These unfortunately are the only real positives I took from my experience. I understand the issues surrounding travel right now and feel like the hostel never took their responsibilities seriously. A hand wash and a temperature scan is useless if nothing is clean inside.

Response from Anthony Garrigan, Owner at Eighty8 Backpackers
Responded May 8, 2020
You should be embarrassed of yourself, writing any negative reviews during this global pandemic. You clearly have no empathy or cultural understanding of situation here in Cambodia. Our borders are closed and the city was in lockdown during your stay, so of course we were quiet, yet we remained open to support many stranded travelers, unlike other businesses that simply closed, but most importantly we stay open to support our staff, most of whom have been with us for over 6 years & their families; we take our social responsibilities seriously during this awful time & forego any profitability’s. Whilst we are running on a skeleton staff we are still paying all their salaries & benefits, such as health insurance and admit our normally high standards may have dropped slightly during this time. If you had simply reported any issue during your visit, we would have happily dropped our sanitizer and disinfectant controls to address the issues quickly. Your comments are inappropriate and distasteful, but say more about your personality than it ever can about our staff or business.

Been here for 3 weeks now and I couldn't be more grateful to 88 for staying open and looking after its guests at this time. The staff are so helpful, especially Thai and connor from behind the bar. My pod is brilliant with air con and a light and plug. My friends were given a doorm room to share which is spacious and gets cleaned every day. I think the negative reviews here are totally unfair especially with businesses struggling. They have put happy hour on all day everyday, there is free breakfast and they are doing there best to stay open and look after stranded travelers. Myself and my friends are grateful and happy to be here!!!

Just got stuck here and honestly must be the last place you would want to be during pandemic. I can see rats around the kitchen so ye canny eat the bathrooms look like they’ve been used since before I was born the floor smells like filthy mop water, the pod oh dear I felt like I would get a rash in there or something absolutely filthy. I know people are naturally more aware and focused on hygiene in the current climate but this hostel should not operate now it’s dangerous. Sort it out!

Not in our bed thankfully but bed bugs were at the hostel. Not a pleasant stay very unclean, the staff pay no attention to what they do and nothing went well, mistakes at check in, welcomed by unchanged sheets in dorm, just really bad service. Everything in the hostel is 3 x more expensive than outside and you have to pay for any extra like there’s no locker locks or soap etc. Prepare to travel to any other place of interest.
