This is no joke when I say how horrendous this place really is. I read some good reviews on TripAdvisor before I stayed here but I have to say my experience was a nightmare. On arrival the rude and horrible bar man told us that they had given away our private room yet it was still showing as “available” on booking.com that evening.. SCAM & gave us single bunk beds instead. It was 9pm when we arrived so we had no choice but to stay there. The hostel is situated over their pub, we took the stairs up to the hostel to see and smell weed being smoked in the common area which is indoors. We opened our bedroom door to find all little bugs crawling around the room & flies everywhere. Not a mirror or a desk or anything in the room but bunk beds. There was absolutely no security, anyone and everyone could walk into the hostel off the street and we saw that last night on our return, it is very intimidating knowing you’re not even feeling safe in the hostel, there was a gang smoking in the common area and I didn’t take a second look to see what else they were up to. The air conditioning is useless, you will be sweating. The towels we were provided with were walking with the dirt & the bed sheets had stains on them, we were horrified. The best thing about this place was leaving.

Booked a standard double room with a shared bathroom with my girlfriend but when we arrived we got a shared room with bunk beds to ourselves for the same price because the private rooms were apparently booked out, yet when we looked on booking.com after we arrived they were still being advertised for the length of our stay- bad start. There is no reception, you walk into a bar and you are greeted by the bar tender who is arrogant and the hostel is upstairs. The common room is a smoking area which is situated inside where people smoke all night, even though you can just go outside the bar. Music playing all night and drunk people shouting so very hard to get to sleep. Bugs crawling around the room and stains all over the beds and towels. Air con not working and people getting sick in the bathroom. Very thin walls so you can hear everything and all we had blocking us from the sunshine and people looking into our room was a see through curtain. Some one was also getting a tattoo done in the middle of the day down in the bar which wouldn’t entice you to drink there. I really can’t state enough how unpleasant it was to stay there. We booked for 3 nights but left after 2 because we were so disgusted with the place.

We arrived here around 11 in the morning we were taken to our room only to find the previous guest hadn't yet checked out in fact I think we woke him when the staff member tried to open the door not realising he had not left yet. We dropped our bags and headed off to see some of the sights we didn't mind as we were early arriving. We returned around 5 in the evening to find the room vacated but still hadn't been cleaned. They then 'cleaned' it but the carpet remained dirty and had alot of stains in it. We left at 7 the next morning as we were going to siem reap there was no staff to be seen so we were unable to get back a $5 deposit for the room key. Staff were friendly but I don't think this place deserves the mention in lonely planet.

We spent 2 weeks in Blue Dog Guesthouse. Our stay was perfect thanks to a very devoted staff and boss. The room is very clean and convenient, perfect for long and short stays, just go downstairs and you will find a friendly atmosphere in the night time. I truly recommend to anyone to stay at Blue Dog!! Definitely go back there in few weeks !

I was staying in a dorm for a few nights for a very affordable and reasonable price. The room and the toilet were clean, no complaints. There is a bar downstairs which can get quiet loud until 12 am but you can't hear the music once you're upstairs. The drinks and the food are good and not that expensive. The service was great, especially the staff. They were extremely friendly and very helpful. Great place for backpackers and those who love to party. Would totally come back.
