We stayed at this hotel for a week and I can honestly say I have never stayed in such a glamorous, stylish and comfortable hotel before. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we checked in, the waiting and bar staff were just fantastic and chatted and joked with us at all times of day, they soon became like friends.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable with very attractive bathrooms, toiletries, toothbrushes, real hairdryer and tea, coffee and water available in the rooms daily on request. Breakfast consists of a good selection of hot and cold food in the buffet area but a la carte breakfasts are also available to order. Ramazan made us laugh each morning whilst taking our drinks order, he knows all the English catchphrases and always provided a happy start to the day.

By night the bar/dining area has a relaxing and sophisticated vibe and a great team of bar staff who make an incredible array of cocktails!

The hotel is in the most central location in Baku, within a 2 minute walk to the old town and situated in an area of stylish shops, cafe bars and restaurants. I would definitely stay at The Merchant again.

Recently opened (l would say reinstated from what it was a century+ ago). Spent there 2 days and it was wonderful experience. This place is beautiful from its door all with designer touch starting from entrance door knob up to the crockery and cutlery. Nice wide rooms, some with balconies looking to the heart of Baku. I bet it would be popular place during Formula 1, as it fronts the pit lane. It's the shortest part of whole circuit but the "weirdest" so called dangerous turn is very visible if your balcony is on Aziz Aliyev street and this will be for sure a stunning experience. The very interesting part of the hotel is if when go to your room you have to pass thru bar/lounge with touches of east and west units interior. You would definitely want to spend some time in lounge having beautifully crafted cocktails and listening live musing or live sax. Once you out from lift to aisle, the Victorian style mixed with modern literally envelops you. The same feeling is waiting for you in the rooms. Top notch is the bath. You have to see it! Rooms are breakfast inclusive and they serve breakfast differently unlike we all know got used to in hotels where you grab food from one big table. You have choice of different types of fixed breakfast types or if you wish you have a á la carte choice.
The true touch I felt when I received a welcome note in my room handwritten (not cliche printed) by staff and I kept it.
So, if you plan to visit Baku, Merchant is your choice. Better to see rather than to hear. My feedback may not be looking like the one who stayed there but believe me it lived in me so overwhelming and that is why I decided to write it so comprehensive.

If you want to stay in Baku for example for ever I can earthly suggest this truly marvellous and stylish hotel. Do you want to try out the most delicious dishes? Here you can. The kitchen and the menu is astonishingly good. The true gems of the restaurant are the waiters. They are more than kind and friendly. I cannot list them all but for example Abulfaz and Yashar always elevate the light of my dinner moreover my mood as well. Thank you very much guys!
The rooms are cozy and clean with a glorious interior design. The laundry service is quick and precise, they can handle any kind of cloth.
The Old city is literally next to the building, you can find a nice fountain square here and under 2 minutes you can reach the Caspian sea.
If you plan to visit Baku, please drink a coffee or an unfiltered Xirdalan beer to my health. Cheers!

I had the please of staying at the newly opened Merchant Hotel BAKU for more than 2 weeks. The Hotel opened in early March. It is right on the edge of the old walled city to 1 side and the hustle and bustle of a vibrant plaza on the other 5 mins walk to the famous promenade on the Caspian Sea. On arrival a feeling of luxury right from the reception up through the hotel. Staff were very friendly and welcoming Arzu and her team were so intentative The decor is a throwback to older times with lots of beautiful decor and a magnificent natural light glass roof overlooking the restaurant and bar area 60 + rooms of exquisite taste and style The chef and his team with a daily alacarte menu, yet always prepared to amend to suit individual taste and style
A welcoming feeling of warmth and wellbeing throughout my stay So much to see and do and visit within a short distance. No taxis required, A Hidden Gem

There are many grand hotels in Baku but what clearly separates the Merchant from the rest, in my opinion, is the outstanding hospitality portrayed by the staff all the way from the General Manager to the housekeeping staff. All Staff are extremely kind, professional & hospitable in every single detail. This place is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed, exceeded my expectations. Excellent service starts from greeting the guests on arrival
Corner suite rooms are spacious and comfy. You'll have a quiet and cozy room to rest. In room furniture and devices are brand new. The rooms are very large and the bathrooms also extremely spacious. The attention to detail in terms of the cleanliness is great. You'll always see a well cleaned room as you enter your room.

Food in hotel is another thing. We tried so many dishes; all of them are delicate, stuff is always ready and professional served to you in restaurant. They know what to do and perform their best while preparing dishes.
Best hotel in Baku. No faults. Spacious rooms. Amazing service. Great food and atmosphere in the restaurant. Great location - boulevard on the one side and the old city on the other. 2-minute walk to the city centre with cafes, restaurants and fountain square.

Lovely hotel and very friendly professional staff. Stayed here during COVID shut down. One of the only hotels with the restraunt open. Recommend a room with a balcony. The hotel has kept it’s historic atmosphere with a beautifully designed bar and restaurant in the old courtyard which is now tastefully covered in a glass a hardwood framed roof. Location is excellent, the sophisticated atmosphere will attract a well heeled crowd during the evenings when the city gets back to normal. If your looking for luxury and want somewhere with character outside the larger chain hotels this is the place.

Perfect location, amazing staff, beautiful luxurious small hotel. I cannot recommend it highly enough! We are from the UK and had never been to Azerbaijan. We stayed here for 4 nights and then moved to the 5* JW Marriott Ashberon, which was lovely, but actually we enjoyed the Merchant much more. We had a king room with balcony, which was lovely, bath robes, slippers, everything we needed. The hotel has a really cool bar with a relaxed vibe, serving food and drink, including cocktails. The staff were friendly and attentive. Choice of Azeri or English breakfast which was very good. We ate there one night and it was one of the best meals we had. If you order a gin, you only need a single, measures are huge!! The hotel is very close (2 min walk) to the gates to the very picturesque Old Town and there are loads of bars and restaurants all around, so the location is perfect to explore. Reception will get you a taxi if you need to go further, and will tell you how much it should be so you don't get ripped off. I have stayed in many hotels and this is one of my favourites. Thank you Merchant Baku!!!

My family had been moved here due to military action in anther region, we stayed a total of 11 nights. The staff and management are amazing in the support help and services provided. Thank you all for making our difficult times in to a happy moment. Delicious food delivered with excellent service. Cocktails you have to see made and taste.
I will be recommending The Merchant Hotel to anybody who plans a stay in Baku to take a breakfast or requires a room with a balcony overlooking the pedestrian Street. Very quiet and well designed hotel served by excellent staff.
Thank you Arzu and team you are great!

Recently stayed here for 2 nights and hotel is in perfect location for Old Town & Freedom Square. Great hospitality throughout and rooms very clean & tastefully decorated. Highly recommend visiting the restaurant/bar as the food was delicious. The only things I would change are that the tea /coffee selection in the room was very basic and cheap for a premium hotel & also there is no shelf in the shower to store toiletries etc. Overall though I would highly recommend and definitely visit again if in Baku.
