Stayed here for 2 nights with a friend in September 2019.

We’d taken the overnight train from Tbilisi to Baku so arrived in the city at 9am in the morning. After a bit of breakfast at the station, we took the metro to the hostel which is about an 8 minute walk with luggage from Sahil station.

The hotel / hostel is just off the street in a slightly shabby looking communal stairwell. There’s a lift in the corner which goes directly to the floor that the hostel is on. Once you’re there, things look more like the photos and very modern. Check in was quick and fortunately our room was ready even that early in the morning so we were able to drop off our stuff and have a shower.

We booked a private family room with en-suite, so had a king size bed plus a bunk bed even though there was only two of us. The room was a good size and beds looked pretty new. The layout was good as the plug sockets were right by the beds plus the bunk beds had built in lights and a curtain. The bedding was all clean and the room was spotless. We didn’t hear anything from adjoining rooms so slept well but the blind for the window did let a bit of light in first thing in the morning.

The bathroom was a little small and had a shower, sink and toilet. The shower was okay - it didn’t drain the water that well and my showers were fine, however my friend’s were not; the hot water was a bit inconsistent although the water pressure was okay. There towels were fine.

We didn’t have breakfast at the hostel but you can for 8 manat. There’s also a kitchen, communal areas and a laundry room. There’s a small fitness area (spinning bike and pull up bar). The WiFi was good and had great signal strength and speed.

Overall, we felt this was an adequate stay for what we paid. The hostel is in a good location to go exploring.

The Sahil Hostel is located in a great neighborhood and is within walking distance of just about all Baku has to offer. The hostel itself (located on the second floor of the building) is inviting and secure. (There is also an elevator near the staircase that I missed upon arriving at night.) I found the mattresses a bit hard, but other than that the bunks were well thought out in order to meet a traveler's needs. The room was also nice and spacious. If you're in the female dorm near the common room, bring earplugs as it can get a bit loud. If I'm ever in Baku again, I'd definitely stay at the Sahil Hostel again! I even ran into an old friend from college who was also staying here. Great minds think alike!

Sahil Hostel & Hotel is centrally located and easy to find. It's right near the waterfront and 25 minutes from the train station. About the same for the carpet museum and 15 minutes to Old Town. Also near a few malls if you need stores or a place to buy food. FYI that the hostel is in an older building with a pretty tiny elevator.

My dorm room was nice and the bed was comfortable and a socket and person light. Bathrooms were clean and had sufficient place. Generally no issue finding a free bathroom. I asked for a lower but and for some reason they weren't able to accommodate that. Climbing to the top bunk was pretty scary so they need better handles to grab.

Lounge area was small but with sufficient with comfy spots to relax and a nice social scene. Kitchen not that big but seemed to have what's needed and space to sit (but no windows). You're on a major street so there is definitely noise at night.

Didn't have much interaction with staff but would be good if the tour info was more available.

One big minus was that I had a few encounters with other guests when they seemed rude/unaware of hostel rules, like turning on lights and making a lot of noise in the middle of the night or just general respect for others.

I don't know what's going on in their hostel.
I booked in their hostel for new year (national ceremony and high season) 3 months before on booking.com
Unfortunately they canceled my booking without reason and notification. I called them, send email and tried all possible ways to contact them, but they rejected me.
I know it is their high season and they want to earn more. I even can pay more for booking on high season. But it doesn't make sense to cancel my booking and no responce to my emails and call.
It is an international hostel, PLEASE have professional behavior. It help your business and tourism industry in your country.

Dear Guest, We are extremely disturbed to read your review and would like to clarify the situation. Since you have made a booking via booking.com, you are required to provide valid credit card details to guarantee your booking. This is a standard procedure for all reservations. Since you have failed to provide correct credit card details, we have advised you via booking.com that you reservation will be cancelled. Please be also advised, that we are in low season currently, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the reservation procedure for all of our esteemed guests. We do hope that you will be able to make a valid reservation with us in the future. Kind regards, Rustam

BED BUGS!!! LOTS OF BED BUGS! My friends and I stayed in Room 105. The double bed was riddled with bed bugs. It was disgusting.

After a long tiring day exploring outside Baku, we got back in the hostel pretty late at night. I approached the receptionist at 3am about the bed bugs but he initially said that they will deal with it in the morning. I was absolutely livid and asked to be moved to another room.

Initially, the evening receptionist told me to go back to my room and they will sort it out in the morning.

I was pissed off and made him realised if he would do the same thing.. sleep on a bed with bed bugs.. so he said no! That was the moment when the penny drops that he really need to move me and my friends to another room.

Absolutely disgusting! You can see the bed bugs from the headboard, pillows and blankets. Really regret staying here! :-(

it was my first time i stayed in a hostel and it turned out to an unforgettable one.
clean beds and sheets and towels. very good location and close to all landmarks of Baku also a safe area in nights. metro station and supermarket and Azarcell were so close.
in kitchen clean dishes were available for everyone.
but in morning finding a free bathroom was difficult even in low season i was there.
maybe they need to add some rest rooms.

Booked for a trip that was supposed to happen in April. THEY canceled my reservation and assured me my deposit would be reimbursed. I understand that COVID happened but dont’t promise something and then proceed not to answer any of my messages. This is very unprofessional. When I’ll eventually visit Baku, I’ll make sure to go somewhere else!

We tried this hostel 10 minuet wall from Old City and 5 minutes from Baku Boulevard. Great friendly service from Ali at the desk. Comfortable beds (we had a 4 bed dorm) and nice atmosphere. We met some travelers in the dorm and lounge but the place wasn’t hectic or noisy. They can organize trips for you, have an ample bar and a huge screen for watching the football. Very happy with our experience in Baku.
