Detailed Reviews
My family live half in UK half in Australia, we decided to ‘meet’ up in Vietnam and visit 3 locations the La Selva being the first stop.
The hotel is situated right in the centre of the city, it’s small but so very big in PERSONALITY. As far as I could see typical City centre hotel, not typical in anything else. It is clean, well cared for and the staff are second to none. I have stayed in hotels all around the world and I would say this hotel is the friendliest I have ever had the pleasure to stay. The moment we left the Airport, we had arranged a car through them to pick us up I felt cared about.
On arrival at the Hotel, from the outside it looked a little different to what I had expected but I had not thought about it being a city centre hotel. Imagine a small hotel in your own major city. As we entered the building we were greeted by the reception who greeted me (the booking was in my name) we had booked 2 of their cheapest rooms.
The rooms we had were adequate for our needs, very clean, en suite, we were single occupancy but 2 or 3 single beds would easily fit into the rooms. Bathrobes, slippers, hairdryers, tea and coffee making facilities are provided. The other couple in our part had an executive room which had a balcony, they were very pleased with their room. Breakfast is provided with a few options as in Vietnamese, American and English, I tried the omelettes which were delicious. The staff up in the restaurant were very attentive and service was very quick.
As I said earlier I have stayed in hotels all around the world in the past and this hotel is by far, even compared to big chain hotels, the friendliest I have ever stayed. My family and I have felt cared for by not only the staff but the manager too. Jackie and his staff have gone beyond the extra mile to sort out firstly a train booking and then a flight cancellation due to a Typhoon!!
A thousand thank you’s would not be enough to thank the team running this hotel. Good hospitality is priceless and these people fall into that category. I would not hesitate to recommend La Selva to anyone, if I ever return to Hanoi I will return to you.

My impression of Hotel La Selva during my 7 night stay is that it's clean, comfortable and located only a short walk from Hoa Kiem Lake (northern end) and the Old Quarter.
The hotel has strengths and weaknesses, starting with the former. The manager, Jackie Le, is welcoming, enthusiastic, responsive and above all, a good communicator. His staff were always friendly and helpful, and front-desk service was excellent. The kitchen manager, Num, was attentive, efficient and always charming.
My room was spacious, adequately appointed and always well-maintained.
On the downside, the hotel decor and appearance are dated and would benefit from a refresh. This applies not only to the guest rooms, but also the dining area and foyer.
The combined shower/toilet area is poorly designed and rather awkward to use. Those who like hot showers will be sorely disappointed, as the water was lukewarm at best.
There are few restaurants in the close vicinity, and you have to search far afield for a mini mart. Breakfast options at the hotel are limited, especially for vegetarians. Be warned late risers, the breakfast service shuts at 9.30am!
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Hotel La Selva, although both the experience and value for money would be improved if the abovementioned shortcomings were addressed.

We initially booked the hotel from 30 Sep to 2nd October 2022. Our intention was to cover major tourist spots within Hà Nội. With the strategic location of this hotel we were able to visit all major touristic attractions WITHOUT TAKING ANY TAXI. That’s how strategically this hotel is located.
We also found the service to be impeccable with smiling staff always ready to cater to our needs. Mr Jackie the hotel manager was fluent in English and was able to translate whenever we faced any communication issues.
Since we were vegetarians the hotel took special care in providing us with nice vegetarian options.
The rooms are nice and the hotel is very reasonably priced with the kind of location it offers. Please go ahead and book it if you are looking for a great location with great service in Hà Nội.
Thank you Mr Jakie for making our stay wonderful.

It is probably a typical budget hotel in Hanoi's Old Town - each hotel occupies a small but tall building, which has other buildings on both sides. The consequence of this row of many connected buildings is that most rooms in this hotel has no windows, except the first room and the last room on each floor (rooms xx1 and xx8). For most rooms that have no window, the lack of air circulation can make the rooms to have a moldy smell. The best place for this hotel is its breakfast room, which is on its top (ninth) floor. Since it is higher than the neighboring buildings, the breakfast room offers excellent views of the neighborhood (and having windows). The breakfast was excellent; and the dinning staff were very nice. The front desk staff were nice and helpful.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed in this hotel - this 2nd time though now completely refurbished. It is a great hotel in a very good location right down the road from the lake and the Old quarter of Hanoi.
From the time we booked Jackie, the manager, was in touch to check in on any special requirements or any other wished we had (i.e. tour bookings, hotel transfers and the likes). He was absolutely amazing and sets the standard for service, never seen anything like it. He sorted our 2 tours for us, as well as transfers, extra breakfasts between tours, and was always on hand for any modification. Our flight was delayed coming back one time, as seeing as he had arranged a transfer and a tour to follow straight after, he followed the flight progress closely, to be able to adapt and make sure we didn't miss our train. Everyone he sent for these occasions was always 100% on point and extremely helpful. Another time we were feeling a bit tired and under the weather, so we messaged him from Sapa asking if he could upgrade that evening's train ticket to a private cabin, which he also promptly looked after.
The reception staff as a whole are brilliant - shout out to Joy and Nathan!
We had the room with the balcony, which is the same of I stayed in once before. The breakfast is up on top of the building. Really beautiful stop and great selection. I am pretty sure I saw some people pretty much order the entire menu, impressive stuff, an testament to how tasty it is!
Will definitely be back next time I am in Hanoi (and I hope that will be soon :) )

Overpriced for mediocre room, subpar food, in good location. On checkin they made excuses for having a wrong checkout date, claimed they’re a new hotel chain. ‘Deluxe’ room was adequate for 1 only with tired furniture and not well-maintained bathroom. Water was hot. Breakfast menu is really poor - bad instant coffee, no baguette just cheap croissant.
I understand prices are rising and location is good but won’t return.

The hotel is in a great location in the heart of the old quarter, everything you need is within walking distance. The hotel itself was lovely and clean, rooms comfortable and very well sound proofed from the bustling streets.
Shoutout to the staff, especially hotel manager Jackie, he could have not been more accommodating. He helped us plan our trip outside of Hanoi which was a great help, and when checking out of the hotel early, he organised a packed breakfast for us on the bus which was much appreciated. I would highly recommend staying here and booking tours with Jackie. It was very reassuring to have him as a point of contact during our trip.

Jackie & the team at Hanoi La Selva are an absolute treat, no request is too big. It is the people who work here who made my experience what it was. 24/7 concierge and in the heart of Hanoi. My visa hadn’t arrived in time for the flight, Jackie was swift into action and organised this faster than I could have. One arrival, had organised a airport shuttle which makes everything so much easier. The staff had lots of recommendations and tips, just pop down and ask them - can even book it for you. There was a guide on checkin that answered some questions, such as; how to cross the street, how to buy from sellers and such. A nice tip. I would definitely recommend to stay here again and will return myself. They really treat you more than a guest.
