The Thang Long Opera Hotel is well worth considering when staying in Hanoi
The rooms that I had were spacious with King sized beds and flat screen TVs. Two bottles of water and self service coffee and tea along with a hot water kettle. Pillows in abundance. The bath does not have a tub, instead a walk in shower. Hot water never ran out and was always available. The usual toothbrush, come, cotton swabs were also there.
The hotel is on a quiet street close to the Old Quarter to the north, a beautiful lake to the west, 2 blocks north of the US Embassy and 3 blocks from a Michelin starred restaurant.
Breakfast was included with the room and was pretty good. A mixture of Asian and Western foods available. A egg station and a soup station, along with counters and counters full of buffet items. I don’t see how you can leave hungry unless you want to.
The staff is outstanding. From the bellman to the reception desk staff to housekeeping, they all seemed happy to see you.. There are two that I felt went out of their way to help make my trip run smoother.
Mr. Quang was wonderful. He set up bus tickets for me to Sapa. He then emailed me the bus number and included the driver’s phone number. The way back from Sapa I was a little confused and he very patiently walked me through where to go and what to do (including pictures of the bus pick-up location). Then he texted me to make sure I had the ticket and was on the right bus. That is unexpectedly good service.
Mr. Giap is an asset to the hotel. You want it, he can probably get it for you. I wanted to get on a last minute food tour, he found one for me. I needed some help with directions, he was there. At 0600am I didn’t understand where a particular bus stop was, he walked me to it and made sure I got on the correct bus. That is exceptional service.

Located in the old city, with a bank on the corner for currency exchange. It is close to the markets and restaurants. Taxi is often recommended to safely get to restaurants and shopping in this very busy area. The staff is extremely polite and helpful in directions, calling a taxi and ensuring a proper taxi fare. The rooms are nice sized with a working air conditioning unit (even in January), complimentary water bottles (2),coffee/tea service, and a mini-bar fridge. There is a flat screen TV with 69 channels with selections in Vietnamese, English, Russian, French, Thai and Arabic. The bed is firm and comfortable. The bathroom has good towels and an assortment of toiletries including a toothbrush and comb. The furnishings are simple and the rooms are a bit old, But the rooms are clean and comfortable with good basic amenities.

Hotel Staff not at all cooperative.
Rooms are very small. Too many house rules.
I asked for some cutlery to feed our infant and i was informed that charges would be applicable for the same.
not at all family friendly. Lights in the corridors/lobby common area are switched off at 1030 pm.
My child was unwell and was crying and on top of it we were getting constant calls to maintain silence. Obnoxious
We requested for late check-out till 3 pm since our flight was late. first they said the hotel is completely booked. I again requested since we were traveling with Infant, then they said that if we pay 30% of published tariff, they can give late check out.
it felt that we are living in a hostel rather than a hotel for our stay. They should have a 2 hours tutorial before check-in for house rules.
Rooms were allotted on the back side of the hotel, though several rooms were vacant on the front. Construction is going on just 10 feet away. So you can imagine, what views you can have.
Third class hotel. Definitely not a 4 star as mentioned.

Average Hotel with small to average size room. Bathroom very small with small shower. Cramped feeling. Staff were very pleasant. Breakfast was average and nothing to rave about. Location was good near a lake. Area seemed safe. Hotel had rooftop which was nice. We had a late flight out so we got the room for late checkout at 6 PM and we were charged an extra 40 dollars.

We stayed 4 nights in the hotel. First 2 night we stayed here and 3rd night we went to ha long bay for our cruise tour. And next 2 day we came back to the hotel. Rooms are excellent and foods are also good. We had a rich breakfast in the morning. The staff were very helpful. There is a park 2km far away from the hotel and at the night it is very nice to walking.

The hotel is located in a fantastic location to walk into and out of the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.
We ate in the hotel a couple of nights and really enjoyed the food with lots of traditional foods on the menu. I would certainly recommend the Hanoi beer too.
The hotel staff were extremely helpful helping me to retrieve my lost phone in a taxi so I couldn’t be more grateful.

Not sure if there are connecting rooms as we were not in need of one. I think you remember toothbrushes but I don’t recall toothpaste.
No, there isn’t a pool. I’ve stayed at this hotel at least 7 times though and enjoy the location. I’ll be staying there again in July.
