I would give LHDH 6 stars if I could!! My husband and I booked into LHDH at 11 Bat Dan Street with our daughter, son-in-law and 3 granddaughters aged 8, 7 and 3 in mid-January. We stayed for 5 weeks and could not have chosen...More
I enjoyed my stay in this hotel. On arrival they suggested another room for me, with a window instead of next to the kitchen. I paid 2 USD more for this more luxurious room plus a breakfast, a good deal. Staff is interested in your...More
Position in the old quarter, the Little Diamond is just far enough away from the chaos of the markets and night life, but close enough to walk within minutes, making sleep possible! The service staff is incredible, helping us book trips and finding great restaurants....More
Friendly and helpful people made our stay perfect. They even recommended and organized day trips, bus and train tickets for us. The breakfast is great with Vietnamese noodles, omlette on demand, fresh coffee, baguette with jam and the best: super fresh fruits.
Room is clean and comfortable. We're not happy with the tour booked with this hostel, the receptionist recommended the more expensive tour at $889,000 dong=$39 US. But the quality is the same as other tour cost $25 US at many local tour offices around the...More

I've spent New Years in Hanoi and had the exact same schedule as you. I stayed in little Hanoi diamond which is very close to most of the points of interest and very affordable. Just the standard rooms are very noisy because they stay on the same ground as the kitchen, so I would avoid picking these rooms.
We took one of the Galaxy Cruises with 12 cabines, and most of them include pick and drop off facility. They are not very expensive given that you book in advance.
As I wanted to keep my luggage in the hotel, I payed for the overnight stay at little Hanoi to ensure I would have a room on my return from Halong Bay. But they could also keep my luggage in storage room if I wish.
Hope it helped !
Enjoy Halong bay! It's definitely a sightseeing trip with the most amazing view of Hanoi
