Detailed Reviews
I stayed at this hotel in late December 2019-early January 2020 for 7 nights, with my husband, We arrived on a Saturday evening when Beer Street was in full swing, so our airport transfer car had to stop at the end of the street, we were met by 2 hotel porters who helped us with our luggage and guided us to the hotel through the thronging street. I was really worried that noise would be a problem, because the noise level was really high out on the street, but as soon as the hotel front doors were closed, it seemed like we were in a quiet oasis.
We stayed in a 7th floor Essence Balcony Suite, which was spacious with a separate sitting room. Very comfortable bed, no noise issues. We loved the daily fresh fruit, snacks and mini-bar (replenished daily) and especially the laundry service (items came back nicely pressed/folded), all these being complimentary if you book certain room categories direct with the hotel. A one-way airport transfer was also complimentary, We found we did not use the balcony much at all as it looked over into neighbouring apartments and the air quality was too hazy to enjoy being outside.
Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was a real highlight! Service is very friendly. Food is wonderful. My favourites being the mango salad and pawpaw salad, I would go back just for them! Buffet and a la carte selections available, including pho, We had hoped to try dinner at the restaurant but they were fully booked on the night we wanted to dine there. Their restaurant is highly rated.
One small issue to mention that the hotel may like to look at, is that our room was situated near the staircase, which must funnel the cooking smells from the restaurant right up. So there was generally a strong cooking smell on entering the hallway and near the elevator. Sometimes there would be a very faint smell on entering our room. Maybe a better exhaust fan system for the restaurant kitchen if possible would help this situation.
The spa centre for massages is also lovely.
All in all we had a wonderful stay, and would not hesitate to stay again if ever we were to be back in Hanoi. Location is perfect, very central, staff great. Great value for money.

Enjoyed a two night stay as part of a large group that booked several rooms - location cannot be beat and David and Sunny were incredibly helpful and offered wonderful service. We also did an overnight Ha Long Bay cruise and our luggage was securely stored for us while we were away; the staff also arranged two rooms for our use to freshen up upon our return and before we had to head off to the airport, which was MUCH appreciated. The spa and other property amenities are also fantastic! Looking forward to staying here again.

We recently stayed at this hotel firstly for 2 nights and returned there after a Halong Bay visit for a further 3 nights. The location is perfectly placed and in striking distance to all historical sites and 2 blocks away from the famous train line. (Be sure to pop into the Railway Cafè and say hi to Tuan.) Lots of eateries close by.
From the point of arrival at the hotel staff were on hand to serve us with refreshments and processed us in a very comfortable and stress-free manner. The rooms were very clean, cosy and a great place to rest our weary bodies. The breakfast buffet was superb and should be included when booking with this hotel. The massage was terrific, easy to book and well priced. Just what we needed at the end of our Vietnam trip.
Staff, especially Phoebe, were knowledgeable, eager to help and took initiative to assist us in all our travel needs. Phoebe went the extra mile to organise and enquire about drivers, tours and even sites to see. She was attentive and always asked for feedback about our different experiences - a true asset to this hotel. Manager David was accommodating and keen to make the O’Gallery Majestic stay our home away from home. He was eager to please, a presence in the lobby and always asked how he could help. He clearly understands his role and is a real credit to the O’Gallery chain.
Will definitely stay here again when next in Hanoi. Do yourself a favour and stay here too.

The best thing about the Essence Hotel is the central location in the Old Quarters. It is walking distance to the Hoan Kiem Lake, Water Puppet Theatre, Original Egg Coffee and the night markets.
We stayed for 3 nights with an extra 1 night cruise to Halong Bay included(with the Genesis Regal) The hotel rate also included breakfast, afternoon tea, welcome drinks and airport/cruise return transfers. We had a 30 min foot massage included too which was great!
We initially got assigned rooms that were old and musky smelling on the 2nd floor. However the front staff were professional and moved us to cleaner and bigger rooms the next day.
We looked forward to breakfast every day as there was a large variety of food. We had opportunities to order Pho every morning.
Staff were friendly, polite and willing to assist you and direct you to local eating places and other places of interest.
Overall the Essence Hotel is a great central place to be. However due to the busy location it can be quite a bit stressful with numerous motorbikes on the roads particular if you have small children.

My family of 3 stayed at the Essence for a few nights—it was fantastic. Very attentive staff, superb location in the old quarter, and very comfortable rooms. Any request we had was met with enthusiasm. Dirty clothes at 5 pm? Sure, we can get those cleaned for you by 8 am, but I’m sorry, it might be more expensive ($3 something per kilo— not expensive!). Nearest grocery store? How about we just walk you there and we can stay and bargain the price. We felt completely pampered! Delicious breakfast and we enjoyed the one dinner we ate there as well. The night market is out front on weekends, making it very festive, but our room at the back of the hotel was very quiet. All in all, a five star stay!

The service that we received from the reception upon arrival at the hotel was on point as the check in papers were brought to our lobby table where we were waiting at instead of at the counter.
The kids immediately took a liking to the comfortable room and enjoyed walking up and down the main spiral staircase of the hotel.
The bathrooms were outfitted with a rain shower and had a toilet with a strong flush which was much appreciated.
I enjoyed the breakfasts at the hotel immensely and wished that I had more time to sit and savour the foods, but instead I had to rush out to my travel plans for the day!
I made a small request for a pair of pliers to fix something and the hotel staff did their best even though it was late in the night to find something for me.
When I did give feedback for improvement regarding the housecleaning service mistaking the number of people we had in the room, resulting in my having to call in to request for more towels, I was given an apology and a gift as a recompense at our checkout.
I can't say more to praise the service quality of the staff in this hotel. It was truly a pleasure to stay here.

Upon trying to check in at the Essence Hotel we were offered an upgrade to stay at the Aira Group’s newest hotel, located in a quieter area of the old quarter. We were unsure, but I’m glad we accepted the offer to move. The new Periton Grand Hotel is truly excellent. It has an upmarket boutique look and it is set back from the road into the old quarter making it a surprising tranquil place despite being so close to the chaos of Hanoi’s streets.
The room’s are large, clean and well decorated. The bed especially was very comfortable and don’t get me started on the pillows! A guaranteed superb night of sleep. There is an adequate little fitness center with the latest cardio equipment and weights in it. Unfortunately, the hotel is still undergoing completion until the end of January 2020 so we were unable to use the pool, jacuzzi and sky bar, but the staff kindly took us to the restaurant and sky bar to have a look. They look amazing. The pool and jacuzzi overlook views of central Hanoi and the sky bar looks better than any we visited.
The breakfast was of a good quality and a nice mixture of Vietnamese, Asian and Western food. An extra little perk staying at the Peridot is the afternoon tea that the hotel serves guests between 3-5pm in the dining room. This was timed excellently both days for a break that we took from site seeing.
Moreover, in a country that I found to be incredibly hospitable, especially hotel staff, the absolute strength of the Peridot Hotel is its staff. I’ve never encountered such a consistently pleasant and polite group of people as Christine, Monica, Kevin and Thinh. They all took the time to learn your names, asking about your day, offering excellent advice about where to eat, where to go and what to do on New Year’s Eve. (Thank you Kevin especially for your advice in this regard). There wasn’t anything that appeared to be too much trouble. Indeed, while waiting for my flight in the lobby Monica twice brought me tea and chatted to me, helping to pass the hours and learn more about Vietnam.
I hope I get the opportunity to see the hotel fully finished!

We spent five nights at the Essence Hanoi Hotel & Spa This place was awesome. It has a terrific location, right in the heart of the Old Quarter. Our stay was further enhanced with very caring, polite & helpful staff on hand to be of assistance. All of the rooms I have stayed in are calm, airy, and very clean and have a sense of space, each with their own balcony and bathroom facilities. The hotel offers a fantastic breakfast. Breakfast and all-day dining is available daily and includes continental and Asian options. Beautiful freshly ground coffee! Wonderful dinner and lunch menus! The Chef and kitchen available all day. Lots of fresh local produce & local specialties. It was the second time I have stayed at the Essence Hanoi, having regularly travelled to Vietnam for work and pleasure. The perfect location of the Hotel has enabled me to walk to many locations and at night be in the heart of evening street food. I can not wait to return.

The location of the hotel is very good if you want to explore authentic old city of Hanoi. The hotel is good and clean and the room was big and fine. Breakfast was really good with warm and cold options and fare variety. You could hear the noisy street. All of these parts giving the 4star experience that you pay for.
BUT the absolut highlight of the stay was the service. This place gives you a lot of it. The service is very great, welcoming and personal. We got all we could ask for in term of service and the staff give you all without asking.
We(a couple) arrived at 10 and were welcomed by the door, we sat in the lobby while check in. We got welcomedrink and warm towels while an excellent staff called Hanna explained about the hotel, area and possible activities in- and outside the city. She put at least 30minutes just to welcome one guest. We could check in early which was great after a long flight.
They even sat up all the breakfast earlier just because we had eraly flight we needed to catch. And we did not need to ask for it.
You guys are doing a GREAT job. This has been one of the greatest stays we have had among 100+stays at 4 and 5 star hotels. and special thanks to Hanna

We stayed here for 5 days for our first trip to Vietnam, rooms were very clean, lovely bathroom and very comfy bed. Good aircon in the gym area and towels for the pool are provided.
Breakfast was nice and offered a good selection of food and eggs cooked for you.
We went to Cat Ba afterwards and then returned to Hanoi before staying at a hotel near the airport for our early flight. Before we left Majestic we were told if we ever in Hanoi while travelling on we can pop in to leave luggage or shower etc which i thought was a great touch.
We stopped by en route to the airport to ask if we could leave our bags while we went to get food in Hanoi rather than near the Airport. Lucy was extremely helpful and friendly in letting us do this and it was much appreciated.
Vietnam is definitely feeling the effects of coronavirus panic with their economy suffering less guests going to the country etc. But i would say its one of the safest countries to visit, i had absolutely no concerns there.
Would definitely stay at Majestic again!!!
