I booked this hotel for my upcoming trip. Just couple of weeks before the reservation date, I received an email that hotel is being closed for maintenance and I need to cancel my reservation. They have a cancelation policy where you have to pay for a day if you cancel, so I called and after 6/7 tries - finally connected to the front-desk, who assured me that my reservation is fine and no need to cancel. I also replied to the email which was sent to me by the hotel management, as I was traveling solo to a foreign country - I like to be absolute sure, so I emailed again about the call. I received similar email few days later that I need to cancel. Naturally, I called again and after multiple tries - got the same response from front-desk. I emailed the management again and they insisted I need to cancel and the front-desk person doesn't know what he's talking about. I finally requested to cancel the room regardless of assurity from front-desk and requested full refund, which I did receive. I neither stayed at the hotel, nor have the actual experience of how it is - it's the bizarre communication and all the annoyance I had to go through - around 10+ calls to have it sorted and going through the trouble of finding another hotel in a short time - which lead me to leave this review. Even though, I AM thankful they let me knew before time but instead of asking me to Cancel, they should have taken proper steps to cancel it themselves and refund me the deposit since they penalize you for cancelling.

We had a short stay at this hotel before we head up to Ha Long Bay. Our family booked 2 rooms. We send a few email and requests for pick up service at the airport and never received a response. We did get our pick up but it was never confirmed from hotel. The front desk helped us Arranged car services for Ha Long Bay, we paid round trip transfer and never received a receipt for our cash payment. We asked the next day when and how we will get pick up and no one one seem to know the answer . There were no communication among the staffs. Our drive back to Hà Nội was so much more stressful since we called the hotel asking for our return ride and all I got was don’t know. They asked me who I paid and lots of confusion. We finally got a car picked us up an hour half later . We were lucky because our flights were late, if not we would have missed it. Even as a Vietnamese, speak fluently in the local language, it still took us 5-6 phone calls to find out where our ride was on the return trip. Lots of “I don’t know” - it is very rare for me to experience this kind of service in Vietnam.

I stayed here almost 6 years ago. Might have been around the time it first opened. At that time it was a really good option for a cheap and fairly quiet hostel. It still is, to some extent, but I'd say there are quite a few places at the same price that feel a bit fresher.

We stayed here for one night in order to go to a tour early the next day. We arranged a pick up from the airport with them, and informed them constantly of the flight number and time of arrival as the flight had been delayed - the driver was 40 mins late and dropped us at the end of an alley and told us to wait there before driving off. No-one came to meet us, very strange and a little daunting at it was 10pm and a very rowdy area. When we checked in they insisted on keeping our passports until the next day when we check out.The receptionist said "I have a lot of passports" and waved a pile that were just sat on the desk, and not stored securely. This did not sit well with us. Breakfast was very poor. Room was ok, you get what you pay for; walls very thin - could hear groups in their room from down the corridor and could hear the next room showering. The only plus side was that staff on the reception were friendly the next morning. This would not be rated as a hostel, just a very poor, low budget hotel with a strange pick-up service and policy on keeping your passports. I would not recommend and I'm disappointed that it is recommended in Lonely Planet! If you want

First of. The location of the hostel is really good, it is located right next to the "busy" part of the old quarter. The rooms are at a first glance fresh and pretty decent. For the price you are paying I would say that you are getting quite a lot. For the more negative aspects, the are quite a few. Being located right in the middle of the busy street means that you can not expect it to be quiet. That means forgetting to get any sleep before 23.00 - that is when the streets outside stop playing music. The rooms also have a distinguish smell of sewage - you get used to it, but well. As for our personal experience the beds where full of bed bugs (room 401-408). When we lifted it to the reception a guy followed us up and squashed every bug I could find repeating "no. Dust"... That meaning that the small tiny critters moving in our bed was dust. It was pretty funny to watch as he sometimes had to chase the creature in the bed repeating to himself "dust, dust, dust". Either that guy was insane or he was just the first round of defense to pesky guests trying to complain... Either way we had to go back to the reception with this guy arguing with them about whether the small creatures in our beds where bed bugs or dust. Being used to the hustle here in South East Asia we managed to demand a new room - refund was out of the question. I can easily say we didn't sleep good that night. All in all, would not recommend this place.
