We had a "home stay" on our program, implying integration into a family home, but that is not really what Moon Garden offers. It is rather fancy resort with a full package, comprising of a wonderful room with non-stop activities : guided walk or bike ride, hand massage, foot massage, cooking class, etc. On arrival we were greeted by Tuan, the manager, who introduced us to the property and explained the routine we were expected to follow. His English is excellent, after a herbal hand massage, he was in charge of our "cooking class" : mainly cutting cucumber and tomatoes in nice decorations, then rolling ingredients in rice paper and leaves. Followed by a delicious lunch. Short siesta, then into a most charming village, where we were lucky to witness a group of women chanting in the temple. Great dinner and foot massage before bed. The large room "Pomelo 1" is the left wing in a lovingly restores traditional mansion (with Pomelo 2 on the right) and is exquisitely decorated with Vietnamese and Chinese artifacts. It was an absolute pleasure to spend a night in this estate and we gladly would have stayed a while longer.…

We went out to the Ky Son and experienced for the day all that the Moon Garden Homestay had to offer. We started with a Cooking class making spring rolls and beef wrapped in green leaves. Then for lunch including our items we made we had pumpkin soup, fried fish, rice with veggies and cukes and tomatoes in vinegar and oil. The meal was yummy and intimate in a large covered gathering space. After lunch we went for a bike ride to Duong Lam Village and its Sugarcane Temple and a 100 year Unesco old house. The house is used for tea, lunches and other get togethers. We then rode back to Moon Garden through the countryside and observed homes and farms along the way. We came back and were given a leg, foot and arm and hand massage and then were on our way back to Hanoi. A lovely way to spend the day outside of the hustle and bustle of Hanoi.…

We couldn’t recommend this place enough! On arrival we were greeted with a refreshing drink before being shown to our room! During our stay we had a cooking class (of which we ate the food for lunch), a walk around the local village accompanied by our local guide where you get to experience the way of life in a Vietnamese countryside, a very relaxing hand massage and foot bath, fishing and also a bike ride through a very old village! We also got to wear traditional Vietnamese garments while listening to Buddhist prayer songs in the Pagoda which was a incredible thing to experience. Staff could not be faulted! If you want to experience Vietnam’s Countryside and way of life I could not recommend this place anymore.

This is the perfect place to start your adventure through Vietnam. After a long flight, journey out to the countryside (just outside of Hanoi) for a visit to this charming Homestay. It's the perfect introduction to the culture, cuisine, history and people of Vietnam. Make sure you stay for at least a night or two to experience all they offer - the cooking lesson, hand/foot massages, bike and/or walk through the village, etc. The owner of the property, Tung, will make sure you experience Vietnam with local flare. The property is gorgeous and as he expands, I can see this will soon be a destination for more than just a night or two.

After a long drive from Halong Bay, we didn't know what to expect. We seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. Then we saw the beautiful grounds and were entertained by a myna bird and cows swimming in a lake and were glad we came. The dinner and foot bath in the temple dining hall was great. The room was spacious with touches of Vietnamese antiquity. The bicycle ride down backroads along fields of rice and tapioca with interactions with the local people was enlightening as to the Vietnamese way of life. The local market, temple and historic house all provided even more insight. Before we left, we were treated to a cooking class, more great local food and an arm washing in herbs. Staying here provided us a glimpse of real life in Vietnam with both comfortable accommodations and great service.…
