Nice hotel- very interesting history and resulting character- it feels almost stuck in an era. The accommodations are good and the bed was particularly comfortable. There is noise from the street which to me is the one major drawback. Otherwise good!
We visited our old haunt Dalat Palace during Xmas 2021, and found a surprise. The hotel has remained unchanged, however the Rabelais Restaurant has continued to improve, both in presentations and in foods. Congrats to Master Chef Khoa and F&B Manager Cong. Our surprise was to see a mainly Vietnamese clientele in a fine dining experience in Dalat. The views from Rabelais are superb and unique in Vietnam. We are pleased to witness growing appreciations, and will surely return.
If ever there was a bigger lie in town, the self-awarded 5* to this Hotel is probably it. You can have everything here in this Hotel of Horrors to make your stay a truly memorable nightmare. Screaming kids, banging doors, loud footsteps of running kids on floor boards, loud talking adults, incessant traffic noise, public announcement throughout the day, trucks hooting in the middle of the night, motorbike noise, cars blowing their horns, lawn mower noise under your window at 6:00AM. To top it off, there is the constant screaming from Emergency vehicle sirens 24 hours al day, all night. I have been known to slumber just about anywhere, but this noise in this hotel had me totally sleep defeated and deprived. And yet this is the most expensive hotel in Da Lat. Rooms are cold and draughty, windows are not sealed against the elements and are badly in need of a refresh, repair or replacement. The curtains cannot be totally drawn as the curtain rails are old and also require replacement. The decorative curtains over the beds (see photo) are also badly in need of replacement and are almost falling onto the bed occupant. To top it off, there is only 1 small window for each room, the room is dark and gloomy looking more like a solitary confinement cell in a prison block, not that of a 5* hotel room. Room service too, is severely lacking. They do not replace shampoos and other stuff that is finished. To add insult to injury, they didn't replace our bath towels today, and we had to use face towels to dry up. When we checked in 2 days ago, there were 2 bath towels, it dwindled to 1 yesterday and today there were NONE. The bed itself was uncomfortable, there was a depression in the middle of my mattress making it impossible to get into a comfortable sleeping position. Their plumbing system in the bathroom badly requires renewal, your shower water can go from medium warm to stone cold, and then to scalding hot in a matter of seconds if your neighbouring rooms are also showering. Dangerous if you have a young child using the shower. Plus there is a large window (see photo) over the bath tub, covered by a thin curtain that allows noise from the corridor to filter unabated into the bedroom. Breakfast buffet came as part of our room package, and food quality was merely mediocre. Sauces and food ran out, but often not replaced until quite a while later. There was often no supervision on the part of the staff. Young children were there to remove buns, croissants and bread with their bare hands and replace them at will. The same unhygienic practices with adult guests. I saw this morning a man who had covered his mouth when he sneezed, then picked up a couple of bread rolls with his bare hands instead of using the provided tongs. I complained to one of the staff, and the attitude was one of total indifference. Not good in these COVID times. As for the Internet access, it was virtually non existent. To put into perspective, this review was started at this Da Lat Palace Hotel, but completed elsewhere as I couldn't upload any photos. You get slow access for about 5 minutes, then no access for another 10-15 minutes and this was the afternoon when internet loads were supposedly low. In the evenings after 10:00PM, you could almost forget it. I couldn't access my usually websites at all last night. We also complained to the Management who were more worried about their bill being paid as opposed to the unhappiness of their Guests.…
There is no sound proofing at all in this hotel. Absolutely none. You will hear every noise from the street, the honking of traffic and such. What more, they start mowing the lawn at 6 am in the morning! The room is very dated. All this I can accept if the hotel had adequate sound proofing, but it does not. This is the most expensive hotel in Dalat but it is not worth it at all. Save your money and go elsewhere. The staff tried to help by changing my room, but the whole hotel structure is just too old and bad.
Outdated. Mattress is slanted in the middle. Rooms are super old and all drainage is clogged. Most expensive hotel in Dalat and 100% not worth it. Location is good but there are tons of other hotels right around here at the fraction of the price.
I stayed at the Dalat Palace Hotel with my wife and two young children during Jan 2021. To be concise, it was the worst stay we have had in a “five star” hotel in asia, and the worst hotel we have stayed in in Vietnam. I would not recommend this hotel. I’m basing this review on the fact that it is one of if not the most expensive hotel in Dalat, and would expect a higher level of service, facilities, and rooms. We stayed 2 nights prior at the Ana Villas which I highly recommend. Breakfast: surprised by all the positive reviews on TA. Breakfast was mediocre at best, lacking quality ingredients or special variety. For example there was no coffee or tea available except ready brewed pots. Rooms: as some of the negative reviews have mentioned, the rooms are past their prime. The mattresses are old, worn, and torn. The roll in mattress for our child was sinking in the middle. The room is dimly lit and the balcony doors wouldn’t open properly and were kept open with folded cardboard. We traveled during the coldest time of the year (-14c in the evening) and there was not proper heater to keep the room warm with cold air gushing in all evening. Service: The front desk manager, front desk staff, and bellman were incapable of properly handling a simple situation and communication. We checked out at 9:15AM asking for a car to the airport. By 10:00AM, no taxis had arrived and not even once did staff come out to us proactively to update us on the situation. There were 5-6 staff standing in the lobby but no one trying to wave down a taxi. Gym: not usable due to no one cleaning it up or maintaining it. And allowing children inside. See photo. Pros: beautiful grounds and gardens. Great location. Suggestion to Management: invest in property training and hardware. You won’t be able to live off the heritage and nostalgic reputation alone. …
Our party booked online after speaking with the hotel ‘to get the best deal’ . We arrived at the hotel to find that our best deal was 40% above the actual rate being advertised for the hotel. Once we raised the issue for the hotel , they promised to discuss with online reservations. The response was ‘ sorry honey and talk to the online bookings ‘ . This was despite a clear indication that this was controlled by there online bookings reservation office, so their followed up response was basically an easy way of telling the party that they have no interest in resolving. We are NYE dinner here, average at best. Some staff are well trained , the others patchy . Overall for the price of the rooms and expectations - it’s a total fizzle. Would recommend this to get a bit of old world charm ( what’s left of it) but factoring in the management response - I will never be returning here again So to all prospective customer - don’t believe the hype about getting a good deal. Do your homework …
Cons: 1 - noisy room, you can hear next room taking 2 - there was no water on our 1st nite, we couldnt get a shower after a long dirty day. I told them this is unacceptable, they should refund partly for me. I mean you pay alot for a 5 stars hotel room and what u get is a dirty night sleep. They told me the next day and said this was an error and would like to say sorry and hope i understand it for them. Seriously, you charge people a lot of money without delivery your services and you think a sorry is enough ?!?? After i get mad at them, they would like to offer us a ride to airport, no but thank you. I attached a picture of a dirty towel, thats the water from the hotel pipe 3 - be aware, hot water will not be as hot as in the morning ( my exp from the 2nd night) 4 - dont buy breakfast here, food quality 2/5. And you will have to wait 30mins for eggs. They even skip my 2 lil boys to serve one adult because the guy said so?! Even my boys was infront of him. We came in as 5 peoples, after 15mins, we only have 3 knifes on the table. I guess the hotel wants guests to use hands for their breakfast 5 - room furnitures is super old and creepy 6 - stinky smell on the hotel's garden 7 - broken teapot So please dont fake the stars, if your quality is 3 stars put 3 stars. Your quality is nowhere near 4stars, so i think 5 stars is ridiculous. And you better feel shame for charging alot base on your fake 5 stars I give 2 stars for its location and the hotel is beautiful itself....i hope they change management team soon. Such a waste for a beautiful hotel like this one.…
Had a great time with my wife at the Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel. Central location, beautiful view with the five-star service. The staff was so professional and enthusiastic. The room was clean, spacious and so magnificent with a soft bed. The food in the dining room was superb.
Dalat Palace Heritage Hotel is almost 100 years old and we were happy when stayed here. The hotel located right in the city center. It next to many places, restaurants and take a few minutes to the night market. The staffs were welcoming, friendly & helpful. They are always ready to help us & introduce many information about Dalat when we need. Room was adequate for the price of the hotel, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was so tasty and varied. We really love it. We highly recommend this hotel and would love to come back in the future.
