I have been to Koh Samui many times, staying at different beaches. This time, I chose to stay in this remote area for the yoga classes. Overall, the yoga classes were professional, and the organic food was delicious and of high quality. However, the living environment and the room made it difficult for me to relax. The air conditioning was really bad and didn't cool the room at all. The bathroom was always flooded. Although I kept telling myself that this was a yoga healing journey, the living conditions were challenging. The restaurant and accommodation rooms were located down endless stairs, and every day I had to go up and down the hill just for breakfast and dinner. It was really frustrating if I forgot to buy something and had to climb back up. I would not recommend staying here if you have knee problems. On the first day, I was already covered in mosquito bites. Although I understand that the hotel wants to preserve nature, the mosquitoes made it impossible for me to sit outdoors, and I had to apply mosquito repellent all over my body every day. Despite the seemingly helpful hotel staff, they were dismissive when I asked anything, which made me not want to bother them anymore. Next time, I will stay in a different hotel and come here just for yoga.

Extremely disappointing experience! Perhaps the worst hotel experience and I’ve been to hundreds. So I booked and paid for 2 nights, 3 days. I checked on retreat guru, as well as in booking’s questionnaire and it clearly said half-pension is included. (2 meals a day and unlimited yoga) After booking, they emailed me how only breakfast is included. (They call it brunch but it’s just a sad, simple breakfast) I told them about the false information online and they said it’s not updated, as if it were my fault. Anyway, I arrive at the hotel very excitedly and need to walk down many many steep and shaky steps down to my hotel room. It smelled horribly inside, I found black mold which is a health hazard, it was full of mosquitos and the AC barely worked. I wasn’t expecting much, they said the rooms are simple but there is a huge different between “simple” and “run-down, barely functional and dirty”. I asked for another room key, they said I have to pay for it. I wanted one so I can keep the AC running since it was barely working anyway. I asked for a cappuccino at the simple breakfast, they said you have to pay for it. Basically, you gotta pay for every tiny bit of comfort you want on top of the absolutely ridiculous ~$200 a night! It’s Thailand. You can get a Hilton or a Hyatt for that money and even they offer yoga classes and actually want to make your stay pleasant without ripping you off every single time there is a chance. The yoga class I attended was nice, but nothing special. The view was lovely though. I tried to sleep in that room but it was the worst night of my life. The odor, the mosquitos, the extreme heat and humidity. The next day I booked another hotel because I couldn’t endure another night in that run-down, crazy expensive hut. I told the front desk what happened and they got so defensive and offensive. I was shocked. No sorry about the experience, nothing. They even said things like “nobody complain, but you”. In the end, one receptionist, who was new, Bliss, she tried to help but it was too late by then. They basically blamed me for not asking for help - as if they would have. I emailed the management too and the response I got was “out of an act of free will, we are willing to offer you a free night if you book a min. of 3 nights” - another money-making scheme. Just so sad. Check out the photos. You’ll see what I mean. That dirty shack shouldn’t be $200. Something is not right there. I’ve never met such negative staff/management. Thai people are usually lovely. It seems they treat the staff badly or teach them to be so defensive and to not be customer-focused. Problems always come from upper management… Overall, I’d say, avoid booking the rooms, just go to the yoga classes. It’s a total rip-off and you have nobody to turn to who wants to help but they just try get more money out of you. Absolutely wild to me how a yoga place embodies these values. Never seen this before. Such a greedy place. And I’m sure they’ll come back with a response now how they’re sorry. Well, they were absolutely not sorry about anything when I talked to them or emailed them. Just avoid this place!!

The longer I stayed, the more relaxed I become. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Everyone I met made me feel welcome and as I stayed longer I met a lot of like-minded people which was good as I was a solo traveller. The two yoga classes I attended were excellent and catered well for different levels of experience! Food provided was great with a lot of variety included. Thanks team Vikasa, I'll be back!

Pure Heaven on Earth! My name is Olga and I stayed at Vikasa in April completing 200h YTTC. I must say my expectations exceeded thousandfold. I was planing to get certified as yoga teacher and have a nice stay in a beautiful place, not only I received that BUT I also have had a profound spiritual experience I haven’t even thought I could have. All teachers are incredibly powerful creating and holding such an incredible space and meditative state during practice that allows you to dive deep into your own spiritual experiences. There is something special about this place, that even beautiful IG videos don’t show! This is something you must experience for yourself. It’s combination of top quality level of stay and highest level of Yoga education. Teachers are such a friendly, loving and kind bunch. They make you feel like family and always there for you if you need any help. The whole month experience run so smoothly, there were literally no hiccups and everything was just one big flow. Rooms were cleaned everyday, drinking water supplied daily, no insects in the room. Sheets/pillows are so soft, bed is comfy, aircons work perfectly, attention to detail in the room, accommodation is done with so much class and style, and the sea views from windows are breathtaking. Stuff is super friendly, always smiling and make you feel at home. The whole Vikasa area is so beautiful and Shalas are soooo amazing! Oh and delicious food in Vikasa Life Cafe was giving me life, literally! I felt super lush there, whilst having time of my life. I mean It really is heaven on Earth! Thank you Kosta for creating this incredible Sanctuary for the soul! Thank you Vikasa Family!

Olga thank you so much for this beautiful review. We are so thrilled to hear you enjoyed your time so much at Vikasa during your 200hr yoga teacher training. It is always such a pleasure to welcome students on the trainings and a month is so a great amount of time to really feel the powerful effects of the yoga practice, the environment, the great food and beautiful people! As you kindly shared, so many people join us for a certification and end up experiencing and gaining so much more- this is always so wonderful to know. We enjoyed having you stay with us so much and you brought so much with you to the group experience also. We hope to welcome you back again one day soon, you are always welcome and we love having students return again to visit :)

Hi, I am Lisa from Germany. For me personally it is a small miracle to complete this physically challenging but very well organized 4 weeks of YTT (200h). I was diagnosed with soft tissue rheumatism 5 years ago and had to take pills and was in a lot of pain. Then 2,5 years ago burnout with heavy weight and muscle loss... Yoga started to help me get back to myself and this year - something led me to this magical place founded from Kosta called Vikasa... Now I'm back home and still overwhelmed by all the feelings and experiences... Every single teacher teaches with heart, soul and a lot of knowledge. I love the Vikasa principle with its breathing and music. The food and staff deserve their stars too! For me, they almost became family! I found something there that I didn't know I was missing until then... As soon as its possibleI I want to come back to complete the 300 hours :-)

Such a wonderful place - probably one of the most beautifuls stays and restaurant-views on the island. I stayed for 1 month on a yoga teacher training, and the Whole experience was so much more than I ever expected. The rooms were cleaned Every day, the staff in the café and reception were always lovely and friendly. the food was amazing every day, and the yoga was THE BEST. I cant wait to come back - to go down the stairs after yoga, take a swim in the ocean and then go up to the café and enjoy brunch with the view.

Vikasa felt like a home from home, a truly special place where the staff and teachers have cultivated a space where solo travellers feel safe and connect with one another. All internationalities, all shapes and sizes, families, couple etc all welcome and contribute to the feel of the place. Life Café is like a family breakfast! I was there on a 200 hour YTT and couldn't have asked for a better experience.

One of the best holidays I have had. Starting with the stunning ocean views as you walk in, to the level of service at both the front desk (especially Fatima) and the restaurant all the way to the yoga classes. All the yoga teachers were excellent (particularly Banks and Michael) and all follow a similar style of Hatha yoga for all levels. Classes generally start with breath work/meditation and follow on to the practise. Highly recommend the morning (7am) class in the white Shala (roof tent which allows you to fully take in the view and the sound of the ocean). There were only 2 and occasionally 3 yoga classes a day but I was told they are looking to increase this shortly. The rooms are clean (I stayed in a lotus pad), spacious and the beds comfortable. If you stay at the resort brunch and dinner are included. I love meat and was surprised that the vegetarian menu was excellent. Occasionally for dinner there would be some fish. If you really can’t survive without meat you can order (at an additional charge) from the a la carte menu. I would definitely go back here and would recommend booking well in advance as it does get super busy. If it is busy you can book the Merit next door and then pay to use Vikassa’s facilities/classes etc.

I came to Vikasa to complete my 200h YTT following a friend’s recommendation and it was the best gift I could have given myself. Throughout our 4-week course we were guided by experienced teachers who practice what they preach, took a deep dive into yoga history, philosophy, the asanas and last but not, into ourselves. The sunrise was a constant companion during our morning practice, followed by brunch overlooking the ocean. Even though we had a packed schedule every day, we made sure to find time for a quick dip in the infinity pool in between lectures. My accomodation for the month was in the Yoga cave, which was simple, comfortable and just enough for the short time spent there during the training. Feeling grateful for the teachers and fellow students, this experience would not have been so special and close to my heart, if I have not chosen Vikasa. I will definitely be returning.

Vikasa was my home for a month when I studied for my 200YTT. The most incredible bubble of paradise; the location is spectacular, the sunrises stunning from wherever you are at Vikasa, the teaching and care, attention and love for all of the students was just incredible. Hard to describe the passion and support that is given consistency through a challenging but highly rewarding experience. I went to Vikasa to develop my practice, I had no idea I would feel so transformed, revitalised, energised and cared for, one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. Highly recommend this beautiful, unique place and experience.
