I stayed at Vikasa for a week in March and it was the most relaxing place I have ever been. I am not a massively experienced yogi but have practiced for just over a year and my practice developed so much in just a week. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, encouraging, informative and experienced and I genuinely enjoyed every class I attended. I especially enjoyed Ann, Chris and Mikey's classes. They all had slightly different styles and paces but it was fantastic to be able to try so many different classes during my time there as it is all included. Most of the classes are accessible for all levels as different options of difficulty are given for each pose. It has made me inspired to continue with my yoga practice more regularly as I have learnt so much during my time here. The yoga sala is really big so there is always tonnes of space and the view from the studio is stunning. You can hear the waves during your practice and it's very soothing during meditation. Not only is there yoga during the day, in the evening there are relaxation classes such as singing bowls and candle gazing, both of which I tried. They were fab and again, really well led and I loved the chance to try new forms of meditation. The food was absolutely something else. I was honestly blown away but how delicious it was every morning and night. The spread of options is amazing and every single member of staff I saw or interacted with at reception or the cafe was super friendly, warm and spoke fantastic English. Thank you for making me feel so welcome! They have created such a wonderful community here. Even if you aren't massively into your yoga, I'd say it's worth coming just for the food, especially if you are vegetarian which I am. There are quite a few steps up to the restaurant but I was feeling so healthy from the food and yoga anyway it didn't bother me at all. The accomodation and facilities were exactly as expected. My beach bungalow was basic but spacious for one person and as you can see from my photos the views around the resort are beautiful. Room cleaning service available every day if you wish, air con was very effective. I loved the infinity pool, super clean and well maintained with lots of shade and sun spots. I also paid for an oil massage at the bliss spa and it was the best massage I've had. Seriously professional, they know what they are doing, and you can hear nothing but birds and waves during the massage, absolute bliss. Big plus point as well, there are water refill machines so bring your re usable bottle for sure. Reception will arrange for you to be picked up and driven back up to reception for check out as it is quite a hill with your bags. They use an app which is really great to be able to communicate with them directly and book any extras you need/ would like. I was worried before I came that Vikasa would be a little exclusive/ elitist and sure it's got lots of luxurious facilities but it is so inclusive and welcoming. I met lots of lovely other guests along the way too. All I can say is, I can't wait to come back!

Just so we are clear here, Vikasa is a 2-star accommodation (at best) with the price of a 5-star resort. The whole place is run down and badly in need of renovation. They try to tell you that their accommodation is “modest” with their differentiation point/justification for charging so much being the excellent “yoga retreat”/ experience that they provide. The yoga and studios that they provide are 3 stars, in my humble opinion. They also open the doors to the public and groups that leaves very little room in the café and yoga studios. The rooms and cafe/canteen area reeks of sewerage. The food is of a buffet variety wholesome, healthy and quite nice. There is a gym that guests can access across the road (Sky gym) it has a nice view but is basic, run down and rather grubby. On one of the nights staying there was thumping techno music until 1am in the morning (not something you need when you are at a yoga retreat trying to relax) I would recommend elsewhere.

Response from ssavidge, Manager at Vikasa Yoga Retreat

Hi Digynomad, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I apologize that we did not meet or exceed your expectations. Please keep in mind that our room rate includes unlimited yoga plus a daily healthy brunch and dinner buffet, therefore, you will find our pricing higher than other 3 star venues on the island. We pride ourselves on offering a superior yoga experience with a highly trained international staff and offer up to five different classes and class types daily. Our food is made with top quality ingredients and our culinary team is expertly trained in a wide range of dietary lifestyles. Keep in mind our offering is a wellness experience and not simply a room. We have four sea view yoga salas, groups get their own private salas for use which makes for plenty of space to accommodate all of our other guests. As for any outside noise, we are aware the wind can carry the sound from across the bay at times but this is out of our control unfortunately. There are no neighboring night clubs in close proximity to our venue. Thank you for sharing your feedback. The Management Team

Vikasa Yoga Retreat is an amazing resort right by the ocean. Their bungalows are private, simple yet modern. The chef at their cafe is beyond talented. The staff is very curteous and nice. Great yoga teachers, sound healers. The spa is great and their infinity pool is spectacular. Climbing stairs is a little challenging in the beginning but oh well it’s all worth it! I hope to come back one day!

I spent 5 nights here and really enjoyed my stay. The standouts for me was the very delicious food ( i would make a return trip again just for the food) and the beautiful ocean views .... from the cafe, from the yoga shalas, from the rooms. My yoga cave was very comfy; had a fantastic ocean view; the AC worked; only a few steps to the cafe and shared bathrooms. Amenities were very well thought out ... there was coffee satchets in room, kettle, cups and glasses and a mini fridge. The only downdide was the very many steps.i am a relativelly fit person but even I got tired of climbing up and downntn3 stairs so many times :) Overall, a good yoga holiday, with the food being the thing that I rave about most.

I am a yoga enthusiast but by no means an advanced practitioner. Vikasa was a beautiful place to stay and enjoy plenty of yoga and indulge in an abundant amount of healthy food. Up to 6 classes a day of various modalities - flow, yin, acro, beginner, pranayama, etc All the teachers were skilled and composed accessible classes. The attendees were varied and the vibe was accepting The rooms were modest but acceptable. There were no mosquitoes and the AC worked very well. Drinking water is complimentary and there is a mini fridge in the room. Free WiFi through out. There is no TV and there are lots of stairs, if stairs are an issue for you this is not the place. Highly recommend for anyone who likes yoga, beautiful views, a nice pool to relax in and delicious healthy food. There is also basic spa area to enjoy treatments.
