My husband and I stayed at the Shangri-La when visiting Chiang Mai for the Loy Krathong Festival. We chose it because we found a good offer and decided to try it. Overall, our experience was good. The staff, especially Khun Gong and the woman who oversees the Lounge Bar area, are fantastic. The location is fair. You will need to walk for at least 20 minutes to get to the popular spots in town, such as the Old Town. We were pleased with our room and it met all of our needs. The most surprising issue was the buffet breakfast. It was enormously crowded, with no attempt we could see at social distancing. The coffee was of such poor quality that I had to switch to tea. But worst of all was the egg station. Unfortunately, there was no system in place to take people's requests in an organized fashion. People simply walked up, stood in front of others already waiting their turn, and attempted to order. Once, I saw a staff member try to write down the orders on a scrap of paper. Customers came at her from the left, right, and straight on. And everyone was shoulder to shoulder. Knowing the fine reputation that Shangri La has, I was in shock--especially in this time of Covid. The other oddity was the gentleman working the bread/toast area. For some reason, he never lifted up his head to see if anyone was waiting there with a request. We had to call him to get his attention--every time. Aside from these very unusual breakfast circumstances, our stay at the Shangri La was very nice. Perhaps they have already noticed and addressed these restaurant issues so that your experience can be scored a "5."

This is my first time to stay here for 2 nights. I have been suggested by my sister in law. My family and I are very impress the hotel environments and staff. The room is very clean and It was sanitized. The breakfast has variety of food and staff are very nice and friendly. After we checked out and went out for tour, we designed to comeback and stayed here 2 nights more. Who will come to Chiang Mai, I strongly recommend this hotel.

I suppose one of the greatest testimonies of a holiday of the most superlative degree is that one would extend it. Such was our experience at the Shangri-La Chiang Mai. The first contact with the hotel about three weeks ahead of our arrival set the tone for the trip. Responsive, eye for detail, professional, diligent, courteous and warm define the team at the hotel. As to the hotel itself: very very comfortable rooms with excellent views of the hills around the city, ample activities for children, very nice spa, outdoor swimming pool with large children’s section and a very fun slide. The hotel has very nice bar, with very nice cocktails on offer, scrumptious and large selection at breakfast (with great coffee), a Michelin Star Chinese restaurant, a pool side bar with great snack choices. Room service also very very good + quick and large choice. MOST IMPORTANT: If this trip was during “normal” times, the review I have written would be spot on, but with the complex challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the hotel has outdone itself. The property and the team of Shanghai-La Chiang Mai are a great asset to the Shangri-La brand and so the chain proud! It was a sincere pleasure and privilege to have stayed there and enjoyed ourselves. Can’t wait to the next trip there! Details: Mid October, family of 5, duration of stay 6 night/7 days.

I was extremely disappointed by the selection and variety of foods available, especially when compared to before. The food options and quality definitely should be much better, especially since it is so expensive. The seafood, which is supposed to be the highlight, was extremely hard to open, and didn't seem very fresh. When we asked the staff to open 6 crab pincers for us, they came back with only two. The pasta station was pretty good, they have a variety of sauces to choose from. For the BBQ station, the lamb and foie gras were pretty good. The plating for the foie gras was beautifully arranged. The desserts, specifically tiramisu, was really good. The chocolate lava wasn't very good. The exterior was very soggy, but the lava itself was ok. The place seemed severely understaffed, especially after they transitioned to accommodate for COVID. Customers would have to wait for each staff to prepare our food, when in other times, we would have picked out our own food. In conclusion, I probably would not come back because quality of the food is not worth the high price tag.

Dear Fame1772, Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent dining experience with us. On the outset, we are extremely disappointed to read that you were not impressed with the quality of seafood served at our Sunday brunch, despite your several previous positive experiences, along with the poor service. Please, kindly accept my most unreserved apologies for not having been able this time to meet your expectations, and be assured that your comments have been duly addressed to our Executive Chef and Director of F&B for their immediate attention, as we continuously strive to enhance our guest experience, with a particular focus on our overall value proposition. On another note, I am very glad to read that you could still appreciate our foie gras, our house-made pasta selection, the bbq station and the tiramisu :) Fame1772, we still hope to be able to welcome you back again, to experience the same quality level of our Sunday brunch, and any other dining proposition, you have enjoyed in the past, and which we are proud to deliver. Please, feel free to contact me directly if there is anything, I may assist you with. We look forward to seeing you back soon. Yours sincerely, Gabriele Lombardo General Manager
