Really convenient located in the Centre of the old city. Easily can walk to the ancient walls. I only shared for a few nights and moved on elsewhere (I don’t like to base myself in one location for too long). I personally thought the price was reasonable for what you were getting
The bedroom allocated to us (209) was filthy, the dust was thick within the lampshades and the toilet was stained yellow from years of urine, the staff didn't care when we told them. Why is that acceptable? How much is a loo seat??? I would not recommend staying here but had no choice as was part of a tour. The only really good thing about this hotel it it's location. The music played at breakfast drove everyone nuts too, one song over and over. The music was kind of funny.
The hotel is located a bit far from the "action" in Chiang Mai, about 20 min walk to main streets, markets and street food. For the night bazaar or Maya shopping mall, you will have to take a red truck or a tuk-tuk. The breakfast is full of Asian options, but for Westerners, toast, butter, eggs and veggies. Same breakfast everywhere in SE Asia. Nobody seems to want to add some diversity. The coffee is horrible. But across the street is a cafe-laundromat - This is souvenir & cafe - and they have great coffee. The room was disappointing. First of all, the bed had wheels and it moved all the time. We asked the Reception to bring something to block its wheels but we got ignored and then we dropped it. The bathroom was old, the walls had mold and the tiles were chipped. We also used their "spa services": massage and facial. The treatments were not that bad but the place is horrible. Old, bad sheets, therapists talking over the phone while treating you - no spa atmosphere. The city is full of massage parlours, just go somewhere else! Plenty of better choices! In conclusion, this hotel is OKish if you stay only few days and do not plan to spend much time in the room.…
I stopped at Chiang Mai gate hotel for 4 nights recently. The hotel is excellent value. It’s also very well located a 5 min walk from the city walls and local shops, restaurants and money exhangers. My room was very quiet, the air con unit made a little bit of noise, but I found it was good to have on at night as it did drown out any inconsiderate guests as they could be heard slamming doors. However, the hotel can’t really be responsible for that. Breakfast was very good, in the downstairs restaurant, fruits, cereal, Asian and Western style. The hallways looked a bit dated, but once inside the room. My room had a balcony, was clean and well maintained. The staff were also very smart and helpful. The best thing about the hotel was the staff and ease of location to the town. They also had a nice swimming pool that gets the sun most of the day and a masseur which I used during me stay. I’d definitely stop here again, I was sorry I didn’t book for longer.…
We stayed for 3 nights which cost us £60 (£20/night). We had got in contact with the hotel before we arrived asking for airport pick up and they said it would be 250 baht. When our flight landed, we could not find anyone from the hotel to pick us up so after 20 minutes of looking, we had to get a taxi and we were glad we did - it was only 150 baht. Upon check in, there wasn’t really an apology and they demanded to see our blue slips we got when we entered Thailand. I’ve no idea why these were demanded as no other hotel we have stayed in asked for these and since we arrived in Chiang Mai on an internal flight, our blue slips were packed as we were not aware these were needed so it was a bit of an inconvenience. Our room was very unclean - there was dust everywhere ( to the point we didn’t unpack as we didn’t want to get clean clothes dirty). Our door didn’t fit the frame properly and had gaps around it and the wood had cracks on parts of the door. Our shower didn’t work properly so soaked the bathroom and sprayed water everywhere when on. There was a safe, air con, and fridge in the room. The fridge contained items but we only wanted to use it to store our own items - not buy theirs. Within the hotel, we only used the bar to buy bottles of water (hotel branded) and this was a hassle on its own. The pool was alright, towels were provided. Hotel location isn’t great - not on a busy road so not many tuk tuks pass. Upon checkout, we were told we had to pay for 2 bottles of water from the fridge. This came as a shock to us and we weren’t aware we had used any of the items in the fridge - only the ones we bought at the bar. Apparently the hotel provides you with three bottles of water - 2 glass ones (free), 2 glass ones in the fridge (need to pay) and 2 plastic ones in the fridge (we weren’t aware of these) but we paid it so we could head to the airport. We asked the hotel to call us a taxi - and she said to write our names on the shuttle list ( looked like shuttle only runs every half an hour and we checked out at 25 to so didn’t want to wait) so we asked again for them to call us a taxi and they laughed and told us to go find one on the street. As I previously mentioned, the street isn’t too busy so a taxi might not drive by for 20 mins. When we asked a third time (as we needed to get to the airport) she finally ordered us one. Upon coming on to trip advisor to write this review, I noticed another review mentioned free shuttle transfer to the night market. We were not told about this at any point during our stay so paid for tuk tuks every night. I understand you get what you pay for but we looked at a lot of hotels in Chiang Mai and many were this price so you can probably get somewhere a lot nicer.…
Very nice. Basic but only a short walk to the centre of town. A saturday visit the saturday market is a must and only a short walk from the hotel. Rooms are small, toilets very small but does the job. Give it a try
Instead of spending 1 night here, I ended up spending 5 nights as I liked it so much and it was convenient for starting and ending my G adventures tour plus a bit more time exploring Chiang Mai. They even let me check- in early, which some hotels are funny about but the staff didn’t mind at all. Great location, only a short 15 minute walk to the 3 kings monument and the many ex-prisoner massage places. I would definitely recommend getting one of the ex-prisoner massages, it provides them with a means of income and the massage was very good. A word of warning though, the Thai massages are quite rough and more like a chiropractor, cracking your back. It is also close to the weekend walking market, 7/11, pharmacy, ATM and money exchange. My favourite little place to eat lunch is cozy, less than 5 minute walk from the hotel and has a varied menu, my favourite is the fried chicken and mango soda. Free wifi here, lovely outdoor garden seating area and friendly staff - definitely go check it out. Breakfast was nice, a little limited but the fresh fruit was lovely. There is Asian food choices, eggs, sausages, fruit, jelly, toast and fresh coffee, fruit juices and water. The hotel runs a shuttle one way to the night market and then a red truck back is only 30 baht. Don’t let them try and tell you you have to pay 200 baht for the red truck because there is only 1 or 2 of you, that’s not how it works, it is shared transport. You only pay 30 baht and then the truck can stop and pick more people up if flagged down. If you are going out of the old town, it may be more expensive but you still shouldn’t have to pay the full amount. Also if you download the grab app - just like Uber. The pool is really nice, towels are provided and you can even book a massage to be done at the poolside. The pool does need more sun loungers as a few times that i went there was none available and they do have the space for it them. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was when i moved into my shared room ready for my tour, they only provide one key. Wasn’t a problem for the other girl as I left the key at reception for her as I didn’t know when she would arrive, but when the other girl left the hotel she did not leave the key at reception so i was locked out of my room for 4 hours stuck in my bikini sat in the lobby in just a towel from being at the pool. …
This is a tired old hotel. The carpets need replacing desperately, the bathroom needs all new fixtures, tiles, major cleaning and painting needed in all areas of the hotel. The pool was the best feature. In the restaurant for the morning buffet the food was cold, no one there to keep buffet tables clean, ran short on food. The location was what drew us there, I am afraid to say we will not be back.
The reception staff were great - kind and helpful and polite Everything else, however ... our room was more than little smelly, And internet connection the slowest we suffered anywhere in two weeks of travelling in northern Thailand Good riddance, would rather stay at a night market next time
I went here as part of a tour with G Adventures and there were piles of luggage all through the lobby - this made me worried for my own items safety, if this was their storage! I was travelling solo so was placed with a girl in a different G tour, but was informed that they only provide ONE key per room and the other woman had it. They insisted I go to the room and knock hoping she is there. As expected, my mystery roommate was not in and I was forced to wait 20 mins for a receptionist to allow me in - but they STILL would not give me a key. Thank god for 24hr receptionists or I would never get into my room. Most worryingly, when I asked them to place my passport in the safe deposit box, they placed in an unlocked drawer below reception. Unacceptable! I would not stay again,
