I'm back at this amazing Chiang Mai resort for the fourth time!
When I'm in Chiang Mai, Anantara Resort is my number one pick for "a place to stay". No matter if I'm here on business or for fun, this place never disappoints.
It's right on the Ping River. Rooms are spacious and well-appointed, and best of all, all rooms have amazing river views!
Breakfast here is one of the best in town (in my opinion), and there's a variety of Western and Thai options. Their Lanna Omelet is so good. Try their signature Lanna omelet if you want a taste of fusion-style northern food.
This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a weekend getaway or a delightful business trip in Chiang Mai. I would definitely stay here again if I'm in Chiang Mai next time.
Stella job!

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff and hotel situated in attractive position directly on Ping River. Eating breakfast out on the terrace was a delight. The breakfast was very good with a wide range of dishes plus many others to order, all included. The hotel is just outside the entrance to the Anusarn Night Market, which was fun to wander round and contained many basic eating places. O'Malleys Irish sports bar nearby (showing live sport of all kinds) was very popular with my husband! Our standard room was comfortable, if a little dated, especially the bathroom.
Good toiletries supplied, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion in large containers, also robe and slippers. Shower set into ceiling with additional moveable attachment lower down. Turn down service was once incomplete and once didn't happen, otherwise very good.
Cons: Insufficient bathroom light for easy shaving and make-up. Limited hanging space which was rather short. Nowhere to dry wet swimming clothes and not allowed to hang on balcony. Balcony very public, with clear glass across it.
Swimming pool long and narrow and for our purpose, set the wrong way round! It faced East, so that by 3.30 there was no sun on the pool area. Coming back from day trips it would have been perfect to relax in the late afternoon sunshine but this is not really possible. There was a sort of sun terrace above but up a long, steep flight of steps. However, the main pool attendant was particularly charming, helpful and friendly and you are supplied with iced water while at the pool.
One gripe personal to us was that my husband is a Platinum member of the GHA. He had not been aware that the Anantara was part of it and had booked through the travel agent. The lady who booked us in spent some time outlining how beneficial it would be to us to upgrade our room (at 3000 baht/night), however when she mentioned the GHA and my husband said he was a member, though didn't ask for an upgrade (normally gets a free upgrade), she immediately said we could not have a free upgrade as we hadn't booked direct, and was absolutely adamant on this. We found this attitude rather petty, as other hotels in the Alliance will overlook it and apparently the hotel was not full. This obviously put a slight dampener on our stay.
For this reason we would probably not return, other places are more accommodating! Could not fault the service or comfort however.

Dear Alex M, Warm greetings from Anantara Chiang Mai Resort & Spa. As a valued guest of Anantara, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your recent feedback of our hotel. Firstly, I am delighted to see such high praise for many aspects of your stay, and I will pass on your positive comments to the appropriate team members. While to ensure that the hotel maintains the highest possible standards, I thank you for the constructive issues you raised, all of which I am personally addressing. Please accept my sincere apologies that your experience was not satisfactory, and rest assured that I am investigating this matter and will take all necessary action to ensure that all process meets the high expectations of our discerning clientele. With regards to guests hanging clothes on the balcony, we politely request that guests refrain from this so as to maintain the pristine appearance of our luxury accommodations. Indeed it is our policy that when our team members notice that a guest is hanging clothes on their balcony, housekeeping immediately provides a clothes rail in their room and asks politely that they use this instead. For in room lighting - all of our guestrooms are designed with soft lighting to create a relaxing ambience. As we recognise that some of our guests prefer brighter lighting, for instance for reading, shaving or applying make-up, we invite our guests to call reception and request brighter bulbs, which our technical services team will exchange immediately. In response to your GHA platinum benefit, firstly we most highly appreciate our important loyalty members, however the upgrade benefit is not applicable to Suites which is I believe was discussed in this case. Regardless, we will certainly be reviewing and putting steps into improvement of how we are handling these type of situation in the future. On a positive note I am delighted to hear that our team members provided you with such wonderful service, and please know that we are constantly training all of our staff to offer the very best of Anantara’s renowned hospitality. As you correctly pointed out, we are close to all the action that the town has to offer with the Night Markets a simple stroll down the street. A nice counter balance to our own dining. I thank you again for your informative feedback and take all of your comments onboard with gratitude. I do hope we will have the pleasure of hosting you again to show you the very best of Anantara’s luxurious hospitality. Yours sincerely, Syahreza Ishwara General Manager

We drove up to Chiang Mai for some urgent business and booked the room at 7pm. We've arrived the hotel at 9pm and our room was meticulously prepared. The room was well appointed with luxurious beddings, large toilet with strong shower heads and a large soaking tub. The bed was plush and comfortable and the room js extremely well kept and furnished. Housekeeping does a really good job here!
Room Service delivers an exceptionally prepared meal and Breakfast is simply excellent with lots of choices and great service from the staff.
The hotel ground is well manicured and reflects the high standards of the hotel. Only comment is that the hotel should not allow guests to walk in the internal courtyard as it is an invasion of privacy for other guests. Also since the hotel is quite enclosed and secluded, there should be signs posted for guests to keep their noise down and be considerate for other guests as people can be quite loud from their balconies.
Anantara has been our favorite hotel in Chiang Mai and we couldnt wait to be back.

We recently stayed 3 nights at this supposedly luxury hotel in Chiang Mai, during a 3 week trip through Asia. We booked a river view suite, one of their pricier rooms. When we arrived, we were asked what time we wanted turn down service. Despite us asking for 7:30 evening service, hotel staff walked into our room at 6 pm while we were undressed! We also requested no down pillows and were literally given foam rocks to sleep on. When we asked for a substitute, we were given tiny buckwheat filled pillows. After finally speaking to the front desk manager, Oliver, he said it was because we requested no down. I couldn’t believe I had to explain to a British expat that all fine hotels around the world have comfortable down alternative options! Subsequently they did find the right pillows.
Our last night in the restaurant with friends we waited over an hour for our food only to have it delivered raw. It was sent back, never to be seen at the table again and we all ended up leaving the restaurant.
The staff does not seem to understand English well and are not well trained, although pleasant.
Housekeeping did not replace shower caps after they discarded the one I had been using.
Upon asking directions what we were told was a 5 minute walk was 20, and only found through google maps.
The decor is tired and in need of an upgrade. Hallways have cracked marble tile and walls could use paint. The room was extremely poorly lit and light switches were not intuitive.
The only highlights were the spa and the Thai restaurant in the hotel.
When we shared our disappointment with management they thanked us, wrote down our concerns and told us they would work on it so it doesn’t happen again. I really don’t care because I don’t work there and I don’t believe it.
Honestly, if you are considering this hotel choose another option.

We had the most amazing 7 night stay at this hotel. It’s just gorgeous and the staff go above and beyond for you! I wish I could put into words what the place smells like because it’s intoxicating, I really wish I could of bottled it and brought it home!
The pool is so clean and staff are so attentive you’ll never have an empty glass of water avian face mist or a towel waiting when you leave the pool.
Breakfast was fab too literally everything you could look for and more their is so much on offer and again staff can not do enough for you view by the river at breakfast was amazing.
We used the spa twice as it was included with our trip and package. The treatment rooms were fab and the massages were also amazing it’s a pity they don’t have a dark relaxation room after as your out out into a bright room in your clothes again a cosy room and a snooze is really what I was looking for but that’s be nit picking!
We just had a standard room. Was lovely not huge but definitely enough room and bathroom was lovely too. Water and fruit provided daily and a balcony looking at the garden and spa building.
It’s pricy to stay here and my god is food and drink expensive. It’s the only thing that would put me off coming back as a family is the cost a pizza 12” a portion of chips a glass of wine and a beer by the pool was over €50 🙈 they have a happy hour well a few hours where there is a select couple of drinks on a menu at cheaper prices which makes you feel like your getting a bargain although prices are still on the pricy side!
Very close to the night markets and to a food market about 5-6min walk to the top of the rd. so it’s a great location and we are at all but two nights!
I would recommend this hotel 100 percent for a luxury break But just to be aware of the price of things. ❤️

3 nights after a 10 day motorcycle tour so I needed lots of soft bedding, pampering and quiet.
Anantara fits all these to a tee.
As soon as you walking to the spacious open to the interior gardens and ponds of the foyer you leave the noise and bustle of the roadway behind you.
Staff are always there exactly when you need them, yet unobtrusive and always kind. Food is superb in the restaurant, breakfast by the river is pretty much anything you want and a serene place to begin the day.
No rush ever at Anantara, you can sit for hours at the breakfast table and watch the river run by and the locals passing by in small boats at leisurely pace which I enjoyed on my last morning there.
To see a Thai man with a traditional carved wooden canoe wading and collecting water greens in the early morning light was special.
The interesting and extremely comfortable bar, and always being accommodated by staff as soon as you think of wanting service.
Check in was a calm and expertly managed affair. Asked if I had any special requests there and at the breakfast restaurant and each day these requests were provided perfectly.
Being a tea drinker I have one gripe. The tea used was easily bitter upon steeping and required double amount as it was always very weak - change your tea supplier folks :).
The rooms are huge more if a suite than a room. beautiful wood interiors with large wall of glass to look out onto the tranquil minimalist grounds and building architecture. Beds super comfortable with soft cloud-like down pillows. Linen rich and also perfect.
Bathroom with big tub has all the amenities you'd expect from a true 5 star hotel group like Anantara. Lovely touches like different large block soaps, loofah, plenty of towels.
Likewise the mini bar is superbly stocked and any request for specific drinks preferred are there upon check in. Lovely touch was the wine cabinet with European wine selection.
Maid service each late afternoon to prepare the bed for slumber and a tidy of the bathroom is always an appreciated touch.
There is no request that cannot be accommodated, with the staff always attentive and very intuitive at all times.Good sized gym with windows to look out which makes the workout just that much nicer I find.
A beautiful 30 metre pool near the river side of the property and a short short walk to the breakfast area after early morning laps.
Careful Covid 19 protocols throughout my stay but never intrusive or pedantic.
Couldn't recommend Anantara more highly :)

We stayed at the resort over a weekend in their deluxe room. It had all the amenities, including a very comfortable bed and a standalone bathtub. It was clean, well maintained, and the service was excellent throughout. They gave us a complimentary afternoon tea, which was very kind and delicious. The swimming pool was good and well serviced, and the hotel grounds in general were always being maintained.
The only negatives were the wifi and breakfast. The wifi connection inside the room kept cutting in and out. The staff tried to fix it with the IT guy, but unfortunately the problem persisted. The breakfast spread, for a 5star hotel, was not as various or as high quality as we hoped they would be (items like sausages tasted cheap, and other options were disappointing).
However, I also wanted to make special mention of the wonderful after-stay service. We forgot an item in the fridge, and after contacting the hotel and concierge, they sent it to us by EMS at no extra charge. This was a wonderful gesture, which ensures that we will definitely be staying there again.
I would definitely recommend staying here.

The initial first impression at checkin is fantastic. Sitting down on a comfortable couch to go over your room details is much nicer than standing with a desk between you and the staff. The welcome aperitif is a great touch as well as the brief back massage. Your staff is well trained and speak better English than anywhere I had visited in Thailand.
I don’t know his name (he told me but now i forgot) but the tall, energetic pool employee is the best I’ve ever encountered and I have done a lot of traveling. His attitude is excellent, eye for detail unparalleled, sense of urgency in caring for pool guest was second to none (he would actually sprint if he noticed that you needed something), his engaging smile constant, and all with a boyish joyfulness that I’ve never seen in any employee! He gets an A+!
For the price paid the rooms were average.
Prices for drinks are a bit high but more tolerable during 50% off happy hour. I did not have the breakfast but my wife did and she said it was great even though a bit pricey. Location of the resort is great.

This is a beautiful resort where the staff put time and effort into every detail. On arrival you are greeted with a hand written note, wine, fruit and local appetizers. Delicious! Every day a new Thai fruit is delivered for you to enjoy after your room is cleaned and every evening a knock on your door harkens the arrival of the turn down team. I stayed for 6 days and it was an absolute delight. The pool is an adult-only oasis where you can quietly read or rest. I found I enjoyed flutter kicks while watching the koi and looking at the lotus. There is an amazing gym if you want to work out including an outstanding yoga studio. Each morning I would eat breakfast watching the comings & goings of the Mae Ping River. My room was on the 4th floor which gave me a nice view of the river and I could lounge outside on my day bed and snooze. The only downside of the room was the spotty WiFi and the room did not have USB plugs which meant I had to charge all my devices on my 1 measly power converter. If they updated their technology this resort would be perfect for me. But it is pretty close to perfection.

As we entered, we were struck by how beautiful the property is. As we were being checked in, they offered welcome drink, a cooling towel etc. Then when we were ushered to our room, we were delighted to find the special romantic touches for our anniversary celebration - a “rose heart” on the bed, a wonderful food basket, gift vouchers for free drinks at the bar, a bath set up with rose petals. The room itself was beautiful and well furnished with a balcony looking out over well manicured lawns. Breakfast next day was unbelievable — in addition to a VERY sumptuous buffet there was also a list fo a la Carte selections we could order from. The staff was polite and responsive to a fault, ready to serve our every request promptly and with a smile. Just a wonderful stay and cannot say enough good things about this hotel especially the stars - their staff
